I have a preference, because the grit can vary between brands and that makes a difference when doing flip tricks.  Maybe I am just crazy, but I don't think it's outrageous to have a preference.

i agree with only youngsters being concerned about the brand but, i wouldn't claim i'd take any black griptape personally. mob, jessup or ball out on some black magic to re-live my youthful taste for shorty's products, i've seen some frightening looking plain black grip out there before. those companies are definitely superior to others.

Do you really notice the difference? And what difference is it? I can say that black magic is definitely a bit grittier/grippier, or at least it was when I was 12 and though it was a big deal. You knew it was good cuz it was an upgrade on ccs!

I don't give a fuck what griptape I'm riding, just as long as it's all black (no cut outs or anything painted on it, has to be all black. I can't stand looking down at my board and seeing something too distracting, has to be all black with nothing on it and no lines), and it's not jessup. After I had three of four sheets of jessup do this to me over a year and half's time, I vowed to never skate that griptape again. Their varying quality is too sketchy for me to continue to support:


But, other than griptapes that fall into those two categories, I will skate pretty much anything. It's just about all the same. Hell, right now I'm skating a sheet of mini-logo griptape I got from the shop for super cheap and it's doing just fine.
