Yeah I won't post over here every time I update Memory Screened but this one is very special -because it features Ricky Oyola for one,  and also cause it bares as an extra ball the longest, most interesting explanation from Eli Gesner in person about early Zoo York, Illuminati and Silver Star stories...

It's on www.memoryscreened.wordpress.com

Thanks a lot. That was an ill read indeed, especially the Eli Gesner part. Really nice to have such a detailed and thorough interview for once.

Man, I read that and then ended up spending about 15 minutes just reading some older ones and plan to come back and read more.  Bookmarking that shit.  Well done, man.

... Which made me think: Eli also sent comments regarding a few other Illuminati boards, that was for that Paris show from last year -I'll definitely post these soon, as well.

I had that fire hydrant Zoo York board, that thing was so sick, I remember walking into FTC and buying it after seeing EE3.

I think that that Love board is the only board that I would want as a wall hanger.

illuminati/sliver star would still be so dope, the graphics are so point

48 Blocks: What ultimately happened with Silver Star?

Ricky: The demise of Silverstar and the rest of ECU for that matter is still somewhat of a mystery to me. Things were going good and then all of a sudden the owner of ECU pulled the plug on all the brands. The rumor is that the owner Mike Agnew had a gambling problem and that he fucked everything up. I was never told by him what the real story is so that is what I got for you. Fucking asshole. I had two amazing companies that I feel would still be around to this day if it wasn?t for him, but it is what it is. Live and learn.

Both Illuminati and Silver Star had great graphics and art direction, never had any of the boards, wish they were still around.

I don't get why you don't sign these yourself.  You could make way more money. If you printed only one on canvas and sign it as your own art you could probably sell it for waaaaaay more money. Like how Richard Prince took photos of Marlboro ads, and sold them for a million dollars. You could be doing the same thing. Fuck I might do that instead.

I mean... you are serious, right? Unbelievable. Your way of thinking is so wrong on all accounts that I don't think it's even worth a reply -a lot of unknown to you notions such as "respect of the artist," "whatver word it is for the opposite of greed" would probably be mentioned in it.
But please go ahead, do it, and make a scammer fool of yourself. The actual artists who drew these graphics will love your forward thinking I'm sure.
That is, again, if this is not some kind of joke. Is it? Did I just not get it?

No it's not a joke.  Doing a painting of a graphic is the same as doing a painting of a house or taking a photo of a photo, it isn't even that forward thinking, but it's still more forward thinking than your "notions" of respect to the artist.  Don't you get it? You would be the artist. You wouldn't be a scammer because everyone would know you didn't do the og graphic, you're not trying to pass of anything as your own or a fake.  It fits so nicely too because skateboard companies always ripoff logos graphics etc. It think it would be funny, you're already getting worked up, I wonder if Sean Cliver would sue if a painting of his graphic sold for a lot of money.

I sure hope he would. And I'm afraid your brilliant mind might not even be worth getting worked up for?
So that was that.

... On a topic-related note, I just posted more Eli Gesner stuff today, this time regarding three other iconic Illuminati decks: www.memoryscreened.wordpress.com

Loved Illuminati.  I also loved Silverstar.  By any chance do you have the story behind an Oyola Silverstar board that was bright yellow and had a black cat's face.  All you could see was the eyes.  Damn, I loved that board.

EDIT:  Found that cat on a t-shirt.  It really popped off that yellow though...

Awesome stuff again.  Wish I had been skating during the time Illuminati was around.  I would have eaten this stuff up.  I wonder if Ricky has considered exploring these themes with Traffic... I'm pretty sure Puleo would be down.
