Im telling you now that its never going to happen. Castrucci is trying to combine the footwear and board brands and make it one big unit. I like habitat so i hate to say this but this means that if ur not down with the footwear, theyre not down for turning you pro. Its part of the reason kyle nicholson never got on and why steve durante is still in am limbo. He also wants to expand it into clothing too to make it a comprehensive brand. I mean. Theres no reason for this to not work if you do it right but youre playing with some very hot fire. I think the older pros and tenured guys are exempt but the newer kids have to participate. Johan is currently flow for habitat boards and am for HUF? If it gets to point where hes good enough to be on the team theyre going to make him choose. Same with yaje. Im sure he prefers being am for vans and am for habitat and not fully on the castruccimobile. Conroy is going to have to let some of these guys get on other footwear companies and be okay with that otherwise this could mean habitat gets in a lot of shit really quickly. Its not so different from how lakai works, its just in reverse. You cant really get on girl or chocolate without putting down some heavy commitment to the rest of crailtaps brands. Alvarez and tershy had to get on lakai and they were really making elijah choose before they put him on fully. Pappalardo olson and MJ were on lakai before they ever got any official okay for them to jump ship. This is the type of shit that make me hate how vertically integrated some distributions are. I understand from a business point of view but its pretty insane reguardless.

Sucks but it's pretty much true. But it would be a pretty good backup plan for the pros who currently have another shoe sponsor though. If they ever get kicked off or want to leave, it would be nice for them to know they have Habitat as a plan b.

That's getting habitat to Greece and Paris and Montreal at no cost to DNA. How is that bad for Habitat?

Habitat shoes are pretty good though. The few pairs I've had anyway.

The whole habitat shoes thing always seemed so backwards to me. Why would they willfully restrict themselves in terms of who they can put on the team? Could they not just have named it something else and left themselves the option of having dudes from other board brands on while still having it mainly habitat guys like the girl/lakai arrangement?

I haven't had any habitat skate shoes yet but, I've had a pair of the Basins for two years. They've held up pretty good for when I've had to be on my feet at work, or summer hikes. I think it's a great backup for the guys on habitat, and probably the dna flow kids. Some dudes can rock their shoe deals, like Stefan, Silas, and Freddy, the rest can just get some shoes with their boards. The name association with the board brand seems odd in the long run. Like Element, Zoo York, or World shoes. Then again, who would've thought a shoe company by Droors Clothing would still be around?

The Habitat shoes I've seen in person look a hell of a lot better than the Element and world stuff. Except the non-skate stuff Element has put out, those are good looking.

I'd rather see Habitat with the $ than any non-skate co. but Adidas has a great thing going and him on the team would be kind of fitting.

oh the shoes are sick, i just dont like the concept. they should have just made it a different brand ya know? like he can own both and have it out of the same distribution but just have a board company and a shoe company.

I agree. Its just a little too much and it adds a lot of rules. Hes smart enough to make a new logo and keep the eco themes without tarnishing it. It also prevents riders from other companies with the same ethics to join up and ride for "a DNA company ". I respect castrucci but sometimes you have to say something. Hes doing a great job and the shoes are super clean but it puts a lot of stress on habitat as a brand. So far hes been really lucky but the footwear push basically ruined the 3rd habitat video. It wouldve been a much better video without the insane shifting deadlines. If he had just made it a separate company and had just called it basin or basin footwear or something it wouldve been viewed a little differently. Its never too late though. The integration can always end. Theyre doing well and they definitely learned a lot about how to do the business end correctly from burton. Its a really good footwear offering in a sea of crap.

I would skate Basin footwear. That's a good name. I'd be more down for Habitat shoes if they sponsored non Habitat riders as well as Habitat people.
