holy fuck! is that switch nosegrind on the hubba new or does footage exist? that thing is gnarly for that trick

Dude that made my day. That'd definitely post Mind Field, I know the Vans dudes have gone down to Miami a few times so hopefully that'll be in the Vans video, that photo is amazing though Acosta killed it, if you look at the blacks behind him it looks like film....

Whoa, dude. Uncalled for. They're African Americans.

Hahaha I hope this is a joke. On a side note though I don't get the term African American, I mean I suppose someone from Africa could become an American citizen and then they'd be an African American, but if you were born in America you're an American no matter what color you are. You could be an American with African heritage but you're still an American. Whatever...I was talking about the black color of the background, I talked to some friends and they think its digital, either way its the sickest photo I've seen in awhile.
The term African-American relates to the fact that people from any other place are typically referred to ethnically that way. Black implies a certain outdated racial concept. In terms of as soon as you are born here that you are no longer an [insert ethnicity here]- American. That's kind of a luxury white people have that doesn't exist in other ethnicities. Nobody is going to claim some kid who is born to two chinese parents in America isn't Chinese-American.

Y'all need to get the fuck over yourselves and out of here with this shit. First off, you apparently missed the joke. Second, the largest group of people who gets upset about this shit is upper-middle class white people. If I called any of my black friends "African-American" I'd get clowned. To most people saying "black" is as harmless as "blonde" or "dude with the red hat." Could you imagine a couple [insert preferred ethnic descriptor referring to people with high levels of melanin] guys saying something like "it's so disrespectful to say "white," you should call him an "Anglo-Caucasian-American?" Back in the Big Brother heyday I remember Dave Carnie referring to Nieratko as "Chris Niggertaco." Most of the kids I skated with in LA were not white and not a single one of us was upset by the joke. The true outdated train of thought is this excessive PC bullshit. Most people obviously just want to be treated normal, not have others be super sensitive for them because of their ethnicity.

PS- Sorry for the long rant, I just don't see why people get offended by such trivial shit.

PPS- Harrycrews is still a complete cunt.

On topic, this segment looks rad as fuck and that switch nose grind was insane, great pic and gnarly trick. Can't wait to check out the interviews when I'm at my PC. Thanks for posting.

I tend to agree with you.

To the above conversation, no one says African American unless youre a closet racist and are afraid of people discovering youre afraid of black people. Please move that conversation to the "I'm white and scared" thread.
(FYI, SLAM sent me better scans so you can really beat off to The Blacks. )

This is the AVE thread.
And i'm beyond stoked on how today's interview turned out.
There are a bunch of nuggets in there for everyone to discuss.
We talked for over an hour and i'm really proud of the result.
Hope you enjoy.

Molotov cocktails?  Someone know what they're talking about?

He means a cocktail of sleeping pills so anxious flyers can sleep through flights.

Figured...was wondering if he meant something more specific though.  I just drink heavily before an overseas flight and wake up with a hangover, but airport drinks are expensive.

Specifically, I believe it's Xanax he's referring to... probably mixed with something else, some opiates like Dilaudid perhaps.

And that was one of the best interviews I've read in years. AVE is just so fucking fantastic.

I find myself relating to this guy in so many ways - cannot believe how hyped this interview got me sitting in my shitty cubicle.

I can't believe the DC video was fucking 10 years...I still remember my friend in college who didn't skate bought that shit and we watched it. I always thought AVE's part was beast when he could grind those Bike Rails (2:43 in the video) like they were nothing.

It's funny how skateboarding is so unique to itself - only Dill could Ave like Ave helped Dill, ya know? He talks about seeing him around early on, and that's what I love about skateboarding. I can travel miles and miles around here in NY, but I'm bound to run into a familiar face sooner or later.

Again - awesome interview!

i just saw him last week filming out on the street with Greg Hunt.  it's true, i would never have the balls to go up and talk to him because he seems really intimidating, but he probably is totally cool.  i wouldn't really want to bother anyone i don't know anyway, especially when they're essentially "working" trying to get things done.

right before yeah right came out there was a pretty heavy crew filming at belmont high, including AVE, Koston, Carroll

Koston tried, but didn't make, the fakie tre line down the 9 that day
AVE was asking for pointers from Koston on half cab crooks down the rail

anyway, my friend had just bought his Alien board that he was going to give as gift and asked AVE to sign it, he seemed like a cool dude
definitely one of my favorite and one of the best skaters of my generation

Day 4 is a collection of great photos by Acosta and the stories behind them.
i love the gun and soccer set. really shows his light hearted side.

http://skate.vans.com/news/2012/jul/ave-week-day-4-acosts-angles/

(FYI: for me, a Molotov Cocktail was a lot of booze and a handful of whatever was in the pill bottle which was such an absolute mix at times that i had no idea what they were. it looked like a candy dish filled with all the types of Skittles: original, tropical, wild berry & sour. Flying sucks. Hurry up with the teleportation already.)

It was plain to see AVE was seriously hardcore since his damn Wheels of Fortune.  A true street warrior in it for life for all the right reasons.
Love that guy.

I'm impatiently waiting on Dill's Week when he goes off on Berra and Scientology.  Is this in the near future CNieratko?

Does Dill even have a twitter/Instagram? I hope not so it'll turn into Berra complaining to himself while everyone else in the industry awkwardly stands by, trying to ignore the situation.

I would think just Xanax, if even the gnarliest drug user took a handful of Xanax, Dilaudid, and wine, you'd probably go to sleep for good.  Dilly is no fucking sleeping pill, it's one of the strongest pharmaceutical opiates.

I like the anti-smoking message, pretty much "Jeez if you're gonna kill yourself, smoke crack."
