Brazilian skateboarders
«

Has anybody else noticed that Brazilians all happen to have a gnarly style and heavy bag of technical tricks? Recently I've been looking at Yuri Facchini and Adriano Lachovski and they're both pretty gnarly. Yuri is already stacking some good sponsors and I don't know much about Adriano besides the fact that he competed in the Element contest.

other amazing thing its that they don't skate maple on brazil, they use other wood called "guatambu" which its cheaper for them, but its really fucking heavy and not as resistent as maple. I've skated a few boards and they suck so much compared to a regular maple board.
Brazil has a nice scene mainly cause they have their own skateboard industry, they make everything and sponsor a lot of their people, they been doing this for a long long time.

Funny that this topic is on here, just the other day me and a few friends got into a discussion about Brazilian skaters and how they tend to have other worldly tech skills.

What are the good brazillian companies? Are they dopplegangers of american ones? Is there a braziliian bobby puleo that only skates wooden doors?

Could be a stretch but perhaps it has something to do with the culture in brasil, it has been said that the reason brasilian soccer players are so gifted with footwork is the cultural significance of dancing samba, perhaps this penchant for foot coordination in dance and soccer translates to skateboarding as well.

I recently spent a winter in Brazil and it was crazy how good the average skateboarders were. I went to a few parks and saw some of the craziest tech shit. Also, their girls are insanely hot.

Why is it that most Brazilian skaters that make it in America are crazy good, i.e., technical, but have horrible style?

As a Brazilian, I gotta say yes, we don't skate maple and the current wood is heavy as fuck (I am not sure what kind of wood it is).
Skateboarding is the second most sport practiced here nowadays. I think this is the main reason we have so many good skaters. Some spots tend to suck too, so when a Brazilian dude move/travel to other city, it's easier to shred the place.
About the Skateboard Industry, I have to say it's getting better, USA brands are taking over here, there's only a few (very few) Brazilian brands that worth mentioning.
