Thunder 149 axle width and Thunder vs. Indy?

Looking online for axle width on Thunder 149 Hi's and getting a lot of conflicting measurements, even from the Thunder website. Does anyone know if they're 8.25, 8.38, or 8.5?
If 147's are 8" then it doesn't seem like 149's would be almost a half inch bigger, unless there was a big difference in size from the end of the hangar to the end of the axle. I saw a pic of some kid holding a pic with a tape measure just about at the 8.5 mark on what he said were Thunder 149's though.
I'm asking because I skate an 8.25 to 8.38 deck but every once in a while step down to an 8.18 when the shape is right so I don't want to have the axles sticking out because they're wider than the board. On the other hand, 8" trucks are a little thin for 8.38's but if I can't match them exactly I'd rather have my axles narrower than my deck rather than noticeably wider.
Also, I skated Thunders around 1993 and Ventures for a while but nothing but Indy's since around '96 or '97. Since they improved the axle slip problems I have no complaints but hear a lot of good things about Thunders nowadays so hoping for feedback/opinions from anyone who has skated both extensively enough to make a well informed comparison.
Thoughts? Thanks.

Thunder 149s have an 8.25 axle!
from my experience riding indy/thunder I find that thunders have a quicker, notchy turn whereas indys are a smoother, surfier turning truck.
I'd say if you fluctuate between 8.18-8.38 then thunder 149s are the perfect size for you. if you have the means then try them out and see how they feel. the difference isn't that hard to get used to.
Though I've never ridden theeve, they're 5.5 truck is also 8.25 wide and from what I've heard they turn exactly like indys. I'd be reluctant to deviate from thunder/indy myself but that's a personal bias and most likely not because theeve doesn't make a solid truck
hope that helps at all

I appreciate the response. An 8.25 axle is perfect, not sure why there's so much conflicting info, to the point whshears seemed like a clear answer would mean heading to my local with a tape measure. As far as having the means, things are tight right now, real tight. We'll see.
About Theeve... I also wouldn't deviate. Skating nothing but Ermico trucks (Indy, Venture, Thunder) for longer than I can remember and have faith in their products. Besides, call me old fashioned but I prefer tried and true American steel.
Think the turning difference you mentioned has much to do with the height? Meaning I ride Indy standards and last time I put Indys and thunders side by side the Thunder hi seemed about the same height as Indy lows. If that's the case theoretically Thunder lows would have significantly different physics than any Indys.
Ah fuck it, got to skate it to know for sure, what feels great to me might suck to the next guy. Mostly curious about the size. Thanks again man.

While we're on the subject of truck width, Indy doesn't make an 8.25 truck right?

Nope! Just ccs fucking up. On the page it claims the 149 is 8.25 when really it's 8.5
I wish indy made in 8.25 truck

Exactly, 139's are 8", 149's are 8.5, so there's nothing in between. With 8.25 being such a common size now I could see that changing someday though. One can hope.

Thunder 149 are not 8.25 anymore. When they started em a few years ago they were but as far as i know they are 8.5 now.
Indy jumps from 8 to 8.5 why wouldn't thunder? I'm not sure if you'd be interested in this but the ace 44 is 8.25. I'm in the same boat as you as far as preferred width and they're perfect

Interesting. Time to start the hunt for some NOS Thunder 8.25's then. That explains why it's so hard to get a clear answer, still doesn't explain the difference from a mathematic side. With Indy you can say 10mm is about 1/2" difference. 2mm being equal to 1/2" is odd.
Thanks for the info and recommendation though but yeah, Thunder is the farthest I'm willing to veer from Indy right now.

Good luck. If it helps when thunder started doing em again the raw ones said 149ers on the hanger in the same type as the football team
These don't have the stamp but say 8.25

Schismatic, just so you know Thunder confirmed that their 149s are 8.25 on their facebook page so don't worry about hunting down NOS 149s

I remember reading that when Indy originally came out they fucked up the metric conversion and just have kept it that way ever since.
Also I would be interested in trying aces cause they have an 8.25 size but I have heard they are just really loose trucks no matter how much you tighten them. I ride indys(139) and like them a bit lose but I get really bad wheel and I'm concerned that if I got aces I wouldn't be able to ride them due to wheel bite, anyone with aces mind dropping some knowledge on this for me?

i ride aces sometimes. with the front truck wobbly. i get less wheel bite with the aces then i did / do with any other truck. i dunno why that is.
maybe its just me though. but yes, aces will never be tight. but you could put bones hard in them, and keep the bottom washer. that would be pretty tight.. for aces. part of the reason (i think) people say they feel loose is because of their very tight turning radius.. when your not use to it.. it can catch you off guard..

I bet with 159s coming out again, that 149s will go back down to 8.25, like they used to be in stage VIII when they were called 146.

They confirmed wrong, probably just referencing their website for the answer. I went to my shop and measured them- 8.4375 (8 and 7/16). They admitted in a comment on their website that the posted 8.25 measurement is outdated. Regardless I'm trying the 149s, should fit an 8.25 deck with a meager 3/32" sticking out on either side but they'll fit 8.38 perfectly.
In the event that I go down to an 8.18 if the 149s are too big I have a perfectly good set of Indy 139s as backup.
Thanks again everyone for all the feedback and info.

i like the 147 mkIIs on a 8.25 way way over the 149.. something in the thunder 149s.. they don't feel right.
couple extra "Speed" washers inside your wheels. 147s skate great on an 8.25.. IMO. and are just a better truck then the 149s. dunno why.
