Since the early 90's skating has always attracted a similar type of kid, pretty much loners or outcasts. But the actual reasons why they don't fit in the normal social circles could be anything from being smart and creative, to being timid or awkward, to being troubled, unstable, crazy, etc. As these different kinds of kids get older, some will realize themselves and come to terms with the way the world works and be stronger individuals from being ousted when they were growing up, others will continue to feel vulnerable and use the skateboard culture as a safety bubble. The latter type is usually threatened anything that is different, stands out, or has the potential to change the culture. Girl skateboarders are a good example of something like that.

If you don't believe that sexist sentiment isn't the driving force behind a small number of female skaters either sponsored or not, consider your statement about women being sponsored only for the marketability of tits/ass over skating, or the OP who said women shouldn't be allowed to skate, or the various people in this thread or even in skate media who said only women they think are attractive should skate, and on and on and on.

For real. I don't care if people don't want to watch girl skaters because they aren't good enough to be exciting. I just get annoyed by all this "oh, but is she hot?" stuff, and by people claiming that these girls are only there to provide T&A for marketing purposes. It's a completely male-centric attitude that basically says that female skaters can only be valued based on how they compare to the best male pros (there really is no comparison currently) or on how attractive they are to the general skateboarding public, which is limited to "just us guys" in the minds of most skateboarders.

Have you guys ever considered that maybe these girls aren't in magazines etc. just to give you a pair of tits to look at; that they're actually there to appeal to OTHER FEMALE SKATEBOARDERS, or people who are actually inspired by those who overcome cultural and physical barriers to improve themselves and develop their own abilities.
