I've been putting in work trying to get this trick for years now, but I'm experiencing a metric fuck ton of frustration trying to get it. I almost always end up landing in one of two ways; either I get the full rotation, but my front foot is way off, with my back foot landing in the middle. Or I do the the standard land 90, stop, pivot and try again. I've been able to land just one truly proper fs flip, so I've got it in me. I have no idea how I should lean and distribute my weight, or when/how to properly flick it but I know you need to wind up, throw your shoulders 90 then pop the trick with your back foot scooping forward while your front foot flicks out, then catch and finish the rotation. Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

EDIT: forgot to mention I can do them fakie pretty nice, but when I try to take it regular it never translates well. It seems to be much easier to flick and push out the front foot when riding fakie.

I have the same exact problem. I might land one mediocre fs flip every session. I found that sliding my front foot in sync with my front shoulder helps some times. For the flick, just let your ankle roll off the board.

I'll have to give that a try, landing at least a few lame ones beats landing nothing.

when i flick it i wait until the board is almost vertival after i pop if that makes any sense. when u flick it at that point it helps it come around fairly easier

That would make sense, when I see fs flips in slow mo the boards gets pretty vertical before it flicks out. I remember that the one I landed was pretty vertical like you said. Gonna have to focus on that aspect a little more, thanks.

Edit: ended up going out and trying a few, managed to land some bolts, was a good day. I think the vertical thing did it for me, because I was able to flick right and finally get my front foot back on. They look more like a hardflip body varial but I'll gladly take what I can get, I can polish them up later.

dont wind your shoulders up too much as you only have to travel 180... you do need your power in your legs not ur shoulders, keep your front leg strong and stiff flicking at a 45 degree angle, letting the board flip to 90 or just beyond and then your there just ride it out... your weight is transferring from back leg power, to front leg power and then back to the back leg (but more evenly distributed) as your catching and rolling away...

but yeah like all skateboard tricks it is just alot of muscle memory... when you have landed 100 or 1000 it will seem simple in your mind but your musles have just learnt it...

This trick took me 10 years before I figured it out, so here goes:

My first advice is to learn to ollie using only your leg muscles, don't assist by throwing your upper body and arms up. You should of course stay relaxed and let the arms flow naturally, but always concentrate on having the ollie power come solely from your legs. If you're not naturally inclined to doing this, you'll feel really weak at first. In my opinion this is the single most important thing, since fs flips is a trick where you have to jump and at the same time have you upper body free to concentrate on the horizontal rotation and just balancing.

Think about doing a kickflip so that you'll catch the board at 90 degrees. Don't think 180 yet, but just flick+catch at 90. Jump only with your legs (sounds stupid but I don't know how to say it better). Flick to the side "through" your board (don't respect it, but whip it like a bitch). As you flick, you have to crouch with your upper body over your legs so that you really stay over the board. Don't let yourself get left behind. You have to commit in the sense that if the kickflip does not rotate properly you will primo or land on the trucks.

After flicking, you want your shoulders to be squared off facing forward (you're now turned 90 degrees), not leaning one bit over your flicking leg, but rather crouched over your back foot and looking at it as the board comes up to it and catches. At this point just completely forget about your flicking leg and just start to think switch, as if you'd be catching a switch flip. If you're able to do this and catch the board early, the last 90 degree will come by itself.

What you want to avoid is looking at your front foot and at the nose of the board after you've flicked, because then you won't think switch after catching.  So just start to look at your back foot as early as possible. A trick which really helps getting the "look at your back foot as you catch" thing down, and also landing switch, is nollie fs 180's. It's the same awkwardness, but without the flip.

Like KennedyPowers said, its about transferring your weight from the back to your flicking foot and then back again to the back foot as you're catching the board. Watch andrew reynolds' fs flip, as in my opinion from it you can spot all the things I tried to explain.

Fs flips are one of those tricks that sort of just happen for me. I have no idea how to explain doing them, I just do them and they happen.
Funny thing is when I first learned them I rotated them fully in the air, but now I just get lazy and do that 90 degree kickflip to late pivot. I don't think I can do them full anymore.
