Yeah I was kinda bummed on his part too.  I read in The Skateboard Mag that he was bummed that he wasn't able to go on more Lakai trips and get more footage.

The problem is he started his career with a video part he could never top. Opener of the most groundbreaking skatevid of all time, the song, the handrail in the rain, the 50-50 double kink.... That's the Pat Duffy Syndrome: your first video part will always be the best, no matter what you do afterwards, even if is is super good.

after all the talk about grants part (which i didnt find remotely disappointing by the way) it got me thinking, what are skateboardings most disappointing parts? parts you had your hopes up high for, couldnt wait for, and then where let down

Yes and no.

The Girl dudes always joke around that the reason why Mike didn't have a part was because he contracted mono. So yeah, i guess acquring an STD would be considered an injury

BUT . . .as evidenced by the bonus section on the Mouse DVD, Mike had a good, respectable amount of footage filmed during that era that, for whatever reason, didn't get used in the final cut of the video.  He could've easily had had more than two clips in his section.

Also, i forgot where i read it, but I'm pretty sure the majority of the footy utilized in his "Penal Code" part was originally intended for "Mouse," but Mike himself didn't feel like they were up to par with the other parts in the video, so he opted to use the clips for a shop video - a shop video that has since been celebrated as one of the greatest of its kind.


And besides . . he had a starring role in the opening "In N Out" skit, which grants him more than enough immunity from get shitted on for not coming through with a full part.
