Bad Lakais?
«
on:
April 02, 2012, 08:02:29 AM »
On a whim I bought my first two pairs of Lakai shoes a few weeks ago (normally wear Emericas or Cons) and within a week of regular skating both pairs had the stitching totally come apart that holds the laces onto the shoe, thus making them impossible to get tight on my feet. I could see this happening after a month or two of hard skating, but this is ridiculous because the rest of the shoe is almost brand new. I attached a pic of the shoes.
Did I just get two bad pairs or have you guys had similar experiences? For being a "core" brand you think that they would design their shoes to actually withstand some skating.
Edit: Chqnged the thread title so that people wouldn't think I was trolling, just honestly bummed on the shoes.

next time just drop a little superglue on top of the stitching. it's the difference between blowing them out and shit staying together until it wears through. seriously. just on the stitching and you'll be fine.

You're probably right, but I've skated hundreds of pairs of skate shoes and haven't had this happen right out of the box before which is ridiculous. Even Vans which are notoriously short lived last longer than these did.

A defective pair is bound to happen, with any brand. Take em back to your local shop and they should be able to help you out with talking to a rep and getting you an RA#, if not hit up Lakai directly with a pic, you might have to mail em back to them but if its a defective pair they'll def. reimburse u another pair. Lakai is def. a brand worth supporting

I had a similar problem with the MJ5 shoes, but for me it wasnt the stitching but the actual fabric right above the toe box started to split apart, and it wasnt because of skating it was just some sort of defect.

I've had mixed results with Lakai quality. I've had a few pairs of Rickk Selects (loved that shape) and Carroll Selects that all wore pretty differently. I haven't had a pair in a few years though. The upside of Lakai is that they're usually pretty cheap and often on sale.

I had some Carroll Selects and I had a hole in my shoe in like 2 skate sessions. Never really bought Lakai's after that.

I was a strong supporter of Lakai for a while. They were the only shoes I skated until I bought Mike Mos shoe when it first came out and the second day I wore them not even skating the bottom just fell out and I no longer had a shoe. I still am stoked on Lakai but I haven't bought a pair since.

If you think it's a defect let them know, simple as that. Usually companies with good customer relations turn their shit around pretty regularly (never had any experience with crailtap though so I'm not sure).

Does anyone have experience with the Manchester XLK? I have a pair of the Alvarez colorway and am not sure if I should skate them for above mentioned reasons of durability, I really like the look of them though, so I don't want to waste them. Also, I got the impression that the quality of Lakai shoes started to suck ass around 2009. Before, all my Lakais lasted pretty good until one pair of Jerichos literally fell apart after one or two sessions...
