they should do a slap one in a million with skateboarders who are kooking it and see if they are worthy enough to stay in the industry.
Maybe we'd get new dixon footage and maybe poppalardo will do more than just ollies

Good to hear Klein's side of the story, but as a skateboarder himself, I think he should have known that this shit was wack.

He probably did, but since OIAM moved to RIDE, I'm guessing he thought that people on Fuel on MTV might watch it and think "this is perfect for our channel"

yeah I don't really know how much forcing contestants to do barrel jumps and skate around the street with pizza boxes translates to skating a shitty demo. At least with a demo you're still skating doing your own shit

"
Yes, all the kids had talent but they didn't have everything it takes to be One In A Million
. " -Steve Rodriguez
Translation: We just needed that one kid who'd stab anyone in the back, suck any dick and just do whatever we wanted him to do. The kids essentially did this, then fatigue and just overall "WTF" mentality set in. Earning your keep and establishing your credibility with the cleaning out vans/demos/etc is one thing - but this appears to be apples to oranges...
"
At that point I pretty much decided to end the show in NYC as opposed to flying three guys out west for the finals
." -Alex Klein
Translation: We were broke and the mutiny had already begun. Seems like he modeled his gimmicky bullshit off of Dyrdek, Dave Mirra or TJ Lavin.
"
I thought from seeing Matt Militano's footage and watching him skate that he had an advantage and was going to win. For him to get sent home on a high ollie challenge was pretty random.
But it's what they signed up for
and sometimes you got to do stuff you don't want to do. But next year I wouldn't have those challenges. I would have made it an open skate in New York and judge based off their skate footage
." -Rodney Torres
Translation: The blind leading the blind - do i get to plug my shitty new clothing line yet?

Well its fitting. Being judged on absolute bullshit and not really having much skating involved is very new york when it comes to skateboarding so when you really think about it Nyc was definitely the perfect place to have this years OIAM.

the good:
john finucan's frontside flip down the double set
drunk homies backside flip down it
matt militano ripping it for a good 30 seconds.
cats got to skate nyc
having skaters draw is always interesting
gripes:
all this talk of being a "role model" skateboarder and being down for everything, yet the focusing of the boards... come on now. we all know skate company owners on a tight budget would not be stoked on a rider constantly focusing their board. so to have that whole concept be a symbol of letting somebody go, give me a break. the show would have gotten more respect if the skater was required to find a kid with a shitty board in the streets and give it to him. instead we are shown how humans love to waste because hey... i can just replace this perfectly functional deck with that brand new one over there.
i don't know, even with the endless amount of youtube dislikes we have to admit this creation did strike a nerve in all of us.

Joseph and John should have been co-winners because they were obviously the most disgusted by what was happening, which makes them winners at both life and skateboarding.

"I did like that they tried to do some different things with the challenges and I thought some of them were valuable lessons but other things I thought there was no value for the audience. But you have to take risks because if it was a success, then maybe it would be on MTV next year and
everyone is cashing in
. But if that's going to happen it can't be made for skateboarders. I see skaters as participants in it and skating being the subject but I don't see skaters being the audience. Skateboarders just want to see skating." Steve Rod
There we go.
Sadly he wont be cashing in from me buying 5boro shit ever again. Fuck you Steve, Fuck you Alex.

Instead of Jenkem interview Lurker Lou and stuff, they should talk to mandibleclaw about interviewing the participants since we know all we'll get out of the judges is regurgitated bullshit in an attempt to save face.

I can't say I feel the same way. For him to talk about it as merely a failed experiment while pushing some claim that it was supposed to be cheesy, when he basically abused the kids for a week and then blamed the failure on them in his edit comes off as borderline sadistic.
And as far as the lack of constructive criticism goes, I heard that better solutions were offered and Alex Klein power tripped too hard to accept them.
Not to mention the fact that the solution is simple. Drop the bullshit and let them skate.
