Has anyone here had bad experiences with selling on ebay or craigslist?  I've been slowly getting rid of all my dunks that i collected while i was working at a skate shop.  I don't know what the deal is, but especially with SB related items, 90% of the time I'm dealing w/ non paying bidders or general kooks that ask dumb questions that are already answered in the description.  (aka do you ship to Italy/Russia/Africa) = FUCK NO!

Craigslist is the same.  Whether I'm buying things or selling(selling is the worst), people just don't understand the concept of 'communicating to buy/sell' via the internet.  The most common frustration is when after making extensive arrangements, having them pull off a classic no-call-no-show.  Or trying to trade me for Drugs kinda has been a running theme too.  Maybe they don't understand when I list a car with a monetary price, it dosen't mean 'or hook me up with some weed bro'.

Am i just being too sensitive or what?

yep. Selling your shit is always a pain in the ass. craigslist and ebay make it easier than a bullshit yardsale, even with the annoyances.

One of the coolest dudes i've ever met I encountered through craigslist when I was buying this cheap bike off of him. I traveled to the hood and  him and I talked for about an hour about life.

Tried to buy a car once, he was wanting $2,000 but he said he would negotiate. I go to his house, check out the car and the igniton switch is acting funny, and the drivers door is kinda jacked. He said he'd take a 1000 off if i could score him some coke.

I'm in the same boat. I usually sell through forums since it's free and you don't have to re-list anything, just post up and bump the thread once in a while til they're gone. Dealing with flakers and questions answered in your description is inevitable considering the demographic.

Paypal can suck too, make sure to ship only to a Paypal confirmed address with some type of signature confirmation, got a nice $400 reversal once.

i make a big chunk of money buying and re-selling stuff i get on craigslist on ebay, straight up.  it started as a hobby that spiraled out of control and turned really lucrative for me.  i won't divulge what i sell, but it's incredibly easy and somewhat obvious if you spent time on craigslist.

i meet about 5 people a week to buy stuff and deal with strangers in general all the time.  i meet them at a VERY public gas stations, or an upscale grocery store thats near by.  it can be anyone from business men, single moms, crackheads and 14 year old kids.

craigslist has reaffirmed by beliefs that most people are good and kind natured.  i've had dinner with a family, been giving loads of extra stuff for free, been hooked up with peoples other friends with more stuff i'm interested in buying.  you get a feel for who's gonna be a no call no show it seems, and when it comes to buying stuff people are so fucking desperate for money most of the time, that no one will stand you up.

meet in safe places, always.

^^It really depends on what you're selling though. I've met some rad people selling/trading stuff for my car, but probably wouldn't kick it with anybody that's bought shoes from me.

Never had a bad experience on eBay, but its probably because I haven't bought anything on there since 2002. Bought a batch of some Toy Machine decks and a pair of shoes, years ago on eBay. The seller turned out to be Caswell Berry's Mom, who sent me a ton of other shit that she raded from him.

Craigslist has always worked out too. Just picked up a decent road bike from craigslist for super cheap. As far as selling, I've sold past iPhones on Craigslist for insane prices. Usually to teenagers that have no idea how to buy things. Last year I sold an iPhone 3g to a 16 year old kid for $120. No idea why he paid that much for a phone that was a few years old, but he was stoked. Also sold a motorcycle to a 23 year old girl on Craigslist. She still drunk texts me pictures of her boobs and tries to meet me at bars.

Negotiate hard, meet in a public place, and definitely do a few email exchanges back and forth before anything. Scammers are pretty easy to pick out.

What about the asshole sellers whose worldview is limited to the lower 48 states only?

I have had pretty good luck buying and selling stuff of Craigslist.  It was my mistake for expecting anything less but when I used it to take care of some last minute roommate/room for rent situations I had some interesting experiences but they all eventually worked out.

When I was renting a house we had a roommate move and I needed to find somebody to fill in the spot.  There were a bunch of people that didn't work out because of price, pets, deposit or some shit but I couldn't believe how many of the female respondents sent me links to their Facebook pages afterwards saying that it'd be cool to hang out. It was a little strange.

At one point I tossed out an ad that I was looking for a room and specified that I needed a garage spot.  Some woman responded but when I asked about the garage she me told that, unfortunately, the garage was being used for storage and didn't have an available spot.  Nothing strange about that until I found out that she hosted sex toy parties and the garage was full of rubber penises and whatnot.  Maybe I am insecure but I didn't like the thought of my spot being taken by a 3ft double-headed johnny named "Steve".

It appears to me that Craigslist is good for picking up smoking deals and burning STDs.

ebay is kinda fucked because you can't see what you're actually getting before it shows up and returning it is a bitch. i've gotten fake shoes and got sent an XXL t-shirt when i ordered a medium. i've sold and bought a ton of shit off craigslist and everything has gone awesome. one time i bought tickets to that shitty dj band justice just to sell on craigslist when it sold out. made triple what i paid to some hipster dude wearing a big sweater and rain boots (it was warm out). karma struck when a friend bought tickets off some dude from there and when we went to the venue they ended up being fake. i guess you can return tickets at ticketmaster and for some reason let you keep them.

we also found the one known as desta on there too.
used to live with this girl who was subletting a room who we found on craigslist who did most of my friends, would roll around on the living room crying and making dinosaur noises, and faked her own kidnapping.

but looking back at it that's pretty boss so yeah, no negative room mate experiences off craigslist.

I LOVE ebay. That's where I buy most things from these days. I really like waiting for things in the mail. I used to sell a lot, but that became a bit of a hassle. Dealing with customs can get very annoying, so I understand why people only sell to the lower 48 states. I do it myself if and when I do sell. When you buy something, just make sure the person has a lot of positive feedback. I generally only do business with someone if they're at 100+. Today I bought the Dinosaurs soundtrack and another cd with some cats meowing to Christmas songs. Some guy is selling that old Cool Spot video game. I need that. I bought shoes the other day too. They were really cheap so I had to right? It has become an addiction....

craigslist is the worst.  i sold a motorcycle on there a while ago and it was way more time and suffering than it was worth.  so many flakes.  made so many appointments with people who never showed up and never emailed me back.  my limited free time is too precious to wait around for fucking flakes.  it's not that hard to email someone to say you can't make it.  i was amazed at how many nimrods there were

Ebay use to be the tits for selling stuff, until they overhauled and are trying to be amazon-lite. I still sell stuff on there off and on, couple years ago was selling stuff a lot more, but their policies have gotten way too retarded. I always encountered people who would pay for it and then ask for a refund immediately after winning the bidding battle or make some outlandish claim that the item wasn't as described just because they felt they payed too much for it or whatever.

One guy pooped himself over a tag being semi split (which was documented and of no significance to the condition of the item, which he won for 10 bucks) on a shirt from the fucking 60's It started to suck ass, heavily after that. The most inventive excuses started flooding in or people wouldn't pay. Fuckers don't buy shit you can't afford or don't need as bad as you think you do. I quit accepting returns because of it  and it was costing me money and time from a bunch of idiots who can't be bothered to read a very detailed description.

Never fucked with craigslist,  selling wise. As most of what I sold had fetched good prices on ebay, but tried to buy a bass rig/various music stuff, and a few cars on craigslist. But most of them flaked or wanted entirely too much money for something worth a lot less than the asking, and dealt with some major tards who don't know the definition of negotiate. The best was a guy selling a Subaru wagon, but failed to mention it was in Katrina, and actually left the NOLA tags and other identifiers on the car, when I opened the door it smelled like a cunt full of fish and human shit. He swore up and down that he got the car in Virginia from a dealership, all meth moufed. He was wonky and Cajun as fuck.

Some of my friends have had good luck buying and selling cameras on craigslist. My friend buys a mint vx1000 for 250, then finds a mint mk1 for 300, films with it for a couple months, then resells the setup for 1200.

I make money that way also, could possibly be through the same products. It all depends on whether people know what they have or if they think "oh it's old and outdated, I don't care about it and it's probably worthless."

selling a car on craigslist is the simplest, yet most painful thing in the world. I can't believe the nerve of some people.

- we set up a time to meet

- get a call back to reschedule. OK, sure.

- wait to the rescheduled day, and they tell me they're coming

- half hour past the set time. Dude, are you coming?

- and they say, "naw, mannn. I live out in boonfuck county and it's a tad far for me to come see your car".....

Are you fucking serious? Fuck you.

I'm almost certain a pissed off mother sold me her son's vx1000 on ebay. It was a Ty Evans bag stocked full of everything youd ever want for just 500 bucks. Ebay can be so great sometimes.

Sorry to self-link, but it's 100% related. The last part was what got me:
http://www.grimcity.com/gc/?p=111

Outside of that I've had really good experiences with it though... I've sold two cars for the asking price to the first callers on each occasion. I geek out and make walk through vids and take like 100 photos of everything and make a microsite for people to look at. I don't really know how to sell, so I just make shit really transparent and upfront. Bought tons of good computer and camera shit too. Just got to establish some communication and figure out of they're kooks or not before meeting them.

I ordered 90$ of band merch about a month ago. And some lowlife hacked the site so all the orders and money went to him. I had to file a dispute on paypal so I can get my money back. It's been two weeks since the claim, and i heard it takes about a month for eberything to process and get figured out. Lowlifes like that are the reason we can't have nice things.
