I didn't mind some of the Original Intent shoes. HUF 5s were great to skate in.

the main reason why lakai left was because of the problems that have been going on over the past 2 years or so at podium, what really pisses me off though is how they drop a ton of their pros but still send 5000 shoes to their flo-cal riders

Fucken sucks about Matix. They made really nice fitting and long lasting pants and tees. Havnet bought DVS for a while but still sad to see an OG skater owned and run brand go under. Gonna keep happening until the massive hype for skating drops off again.

Honestly, I don't know how someone can talk shit about DVS... It's fucking runned by
Tim Gavin
, plus they have been supporting amazing skateboarders since day one, and the only reason they drop a bunch of them is because you haters that talk shit on surf or bmx or moto are buying nike shoes, that by the way supports the same douches in a even bigger level, and have uglier shoes than those metal mulishia dvs kicks...
If you want to hate a brand just do it for the right reasons... Bunch of hypocrites!
Gavin is the marketing guy.
The Dunlop brothers were calling the shots.

at least 363 auctioning is a little different than standard chapter eleven. if they get the right investor to reorganize their brand they could actually come out perfectly fine.
wont happen but fuck manderson got on cons so the world still spins.

Nike makes better shoes. Why would I buy something that cost ten dollars or even twenty less, but does not offer any where near the functionality? What to be a good person. Yeah that makes a lot of sense.
Yes, and as others have said the brand has sucked for a decade now. The last time it was popular was when Kerry Getz put out his first pro model.
Having actually read back through the thread, it is pretty clear that good shoes are good shoes. And people who are overly liberal individuals can't get past their own little ethical codes and egos to look at the bigger picture. We are all sell outs, no matter what we do. So at the very least we should allow ourselves to to obtain the very best skate shoes possible.

Have never bought anything from any of these companies and probably never will. It still sucks to see any skate company doing poorly though.

bummer. well, i am bummed because i love Daewon, but i don't like DVS shoes. i hope it works out for him.
as far as the Nike thing, they do wield a more power as a corporation but at the end of the day if the shoes sucked nobody would skate them. i don't skate DVS because i thought the pairs i had were terrible. I did buy their video though, which was sick.

I didn't see it mentioned.
Podium handles Diamond Footwear. Not clothes or hardware.
I had 1 pair of DVS shoes somewhere around 2001. They sucked, they look worse now. Also, not giving my money to a company with a motorcycle team. Just not going to.
Personal preferences, I have mine, you can have yours too. But don't say NIke isn't hurting the smaller guys. It's like saying Walmart never put anyone out of business, and that's just foolish.

nike has defiantly hurt skater run brands, but they are not solely to blame for podium's shitty state of affairs. i know a bunch of the guys from that camp and this is what i've gathered from them. there were a ton of down to earth, legit, skateboarders employed over there. and the most common complaint that i heard from them was that it was poorly run by the higher ups. granted, who doesn't hate their boss? but im assuming there is some truth to the complaints when they couldn't pull it together after the atomic active bomb went off. soon after hurricane active, they started dropping employees and pros like crazy and every brand under the podium umbrella has been for sale ever since. girl/choco took lakai and nobody has stepped up to take matix or dvs. i lived with two longtime employees and still keep in touch with a few who still work there. and all i can say is that active has been a huge catalyst in demise of skateboarder run companies and unfortunately some have not been able to recover. i just hope the podium crew can figure out a way to pull this one off because they still have a bunch of good people workin there.

Diamond is hardly a part of podium. They are mostly a clothing company now and make good money. Nick Diamond just bought a whole warehouse too and fully furnished it with super expensive furniture. If anyone is not doing good, it's DVS.
you still can still have assets and be chapter 11- just means they don't have enough in the bank to pay back their creditors
shit you can still run a business
and
maintain your assets while chapter 11 - i think its called "debtor in possession"
they may have to fork over their shit to a trustee though- so there is a good chance a nonskater will be running the books at podium now
if you see chapter 7 bankruptcy though thats when a company is fucked.
what could be happening is they are selling the sinking ship (DVS) and rolling that cash into money owed for the other holdings (diamond)

it seemed to me that DVS only put Busenitz on the team after he won Tampa pro.
Vans and Emerica had their chances with him but failed to see how fuckin' sick of a skater he is.
in a time of personality marketing, it's great to see Dennis and a few others getting paid close to what they deserve for just being amazing skaters and nothing else.

Maybe some of the so called core skate shoe brands wouldn't be in this predicament if they offer something that wasn't a fucking Vans ripoff.
I wear Nikes pretty much exclusively now but only because Dunks are pretty much the only shoe you can get that isn't some era, old school, skate high, half cab ripoff . I made and effort to not rock Nikes but no one makes a shoes besides them i would ever put my foot near.
Oh yeah those dudes that own DVS are fucking surf kooks and i think they'res some other old money LA fucks that orginally backed the company.
