The California move is really lame and goes against what AWS stands for, but this is one of the coolest things to happen in skateboarding lately:

Alien Workshop and The Keith Haring Studio have announced a new collaboration project. The full hardgoods line for this collaboration will drop in Summer 12,  followed by an extensive apparel offering shortly thereafter. The collaboration will debut at the Agenda Trade Show in Long Beach, California on August 1st and 2nd.

As a skateboard brand that has evolved since it?s inception in 1990, Alien Workshop has become known for bold and challenging graphic concepts. This collaboration could not find a better pairing aesthetically and conceptually. It is our aim to further Haring?s message through our work.

Keith Haring was an artist and activist who frequently used his art to speak out about social issues. He was one of the best known among the young artists, filmmakers, performers and musicians whose work responded to urban street culture of the 80s. Diagnosed with AIDSin 1988, Haring established the Keith Haring Foundation in 1989 to provide funding and imagery to AIDS organizations, and to ensure that his philanthropic legacy would continue indefinitely. The Keith Haring Foundation?s mission is to sustain, expand and protect the legacy of Haring?s art and his ideals. The Foundation supports organizations that assist underprivileged children, as well as those engaged in education, research and care with respect to AIDS and HIV.

It's not a collaboration if you stick a dead artist's work on your board. He's not collaborating, you are just taking his shit.

http://haring.com/faq_haring/#rights

"The Keith Haring Studio owns the international copyright to all artwork created by Keith Haring, and his artwork may not be reproduced in any way without express written permission from the Haring Studio."

If AWS paid for or got permission in any way to use Keith Haring's artwork then they are not just taking his shit. By that logic we should all be mad at every skate company for using songs they didn't create in their videos.

Blows my mind that people are leaving companies run by established pros in favor of one run by Nick Trapasso, who I'm pretty sure can't count to twenty without taking off his shoes.

Thanks for proving my point. Look up what "collaborate" means. Basically it means BOTH SIDES work together towards a common goal. If Haring is dead, he isn't collaborating, Alien is just buying rights to his work so they can put it on boards. Haring didn't create a bunch of graphics for Alien boards or have any say in how it turned out, so he didn't collaborate. Nobody said it was copyright infringement. The point was that there wasn't collaboration, just Alien reaching deep in the purse to buy somebody's work. Them claiming they collaborated with Haring is stupid and factually incorrect.

Nice job of correcting me, next time figure out what I am actually saying "l33tg33k." I've told you what a stupid name that is, right?

Both sides meaning the studio and alien collaborating together, I don't think anybody mentioned them collaborating with just Keith.

EDIT: except in the thread title.

Is Keith Haring studio creating new original artwork, or are they selling old Keith Haring artwork to Alien?

Alien is so good at collaborating with dead, already super-mainstream artists.

companies working with Keith Haring Studio is ABD x 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

the main reason this is wierd is because Alien has had the most incredible, original, art direction in skateboarding since its inception. why deviate from that, again, after the Warhol stuff (which I thought was awesome) ?

i'm not too into this, lots of companies have used keith's stuff before, and like gipper said, they're just pulling stuff out of his back catalog, not a real collab.  but supreme's collabs are just famous people wearing supreme shirts.  there's nothing lamer in today's skate world than supreme fanboys.  fuck that fashion, fake-skate-shop bullshit.  they don't even have skate tools in there to set up a board.

I will fuck your father with "what's good". Only the most casual, disinterested art "fans" and kids with autism could ever talk about Jeff Koons as a serious or relevant art-marker. He's a fluffy market driver who's team of 25 MFA students makes beautiful garbage for simple minds to digest in an instant and move on to the next. I'm not going to sit here and name drop "what's good", because you'd have to be more than a passive jerk-off troll Supreme fanboy to even scratch the surface of what's happening in the art world. It wouldn't mean anything to your stupid ass. Suck my dick you hack fuck. You know nothing. Angus Fairhurst yourself.

Also, Gipper is right. This is a pretty lame "collaboration". Workshop could do way more interesting crossovers. Who's next, Murakami? Hanz calls bullshit.

You're one of these people that hates Jeff Koons  because he does things you wish you'd thought of. Nice try. I know more than you on any subject. You sound like you just watched a Robert Hughes doc on modern art. You're not going to sit there and name drop what's good because you can't.  Yet, you'll type up a a paragraph, instead of listing three names even. Bitch.
