Watching it right now. I never heard about the bulimia thing either...
pretty sad overall, but I'm glad he's finding his way.

Also fatherhood will hopefully change him for the better...

Fingers crossed. Although I won't be surprised if Phil and Ape end up doing all of the work.

They seem like the best parents though. Maybe this is what will cause bam to get it together. Fatherhood takes alot of time and energy

I think becoming a father will do wonders for him, i really think it will help put things into perspective for him.

That was exactly what I wanted when I heard there was going to a Bam episode. DO we really need to hear more about how he got into skating and just ripped demos and street skating? NO, that was the perfect amount of focus on each topic to fit the format of the show.
We have all been wondering what's been going on with him, how he's ben doing, if he's still skating and what the hell happened. Now we more or less know.
Of course he's bloated and not what he once was but like Novak said he has, he has a good shot. A good chance to extend his skateboarding career and at being healthy, productive, entertaining (while remaining inspiring and everything else I just mentioned).

The biggest shocker for me was finding out he was only 24 during the Viva La Bam heyday. I mean I know what I was like at 23/24 and I was a fucking unproductive embarrassment to who I want to be- all I wanted to do was skate a bit while smoking my brains out and drink hard as fuck every night. Nearly dropped out of further education for a third time because of doing all that. And I wasn't on MTV, I wasn't a household name making literally millions. Imagine what his situation was like? You can't understand what he was feeling, I can't understand what he was feeling, I can only try to relate to it as it relates to my experiences.
Whatever, I'm so fucking happy to see him skating again and to see that he's seemingly on a positive focused mindset. That and I enjoyed the documentary, been wondering about him for a while now.

In 15 years we'll have footage of silly bam getting beaten up by a young scrawny Margera, hell bent on punishing their father for going full kook in his youth.

Backing Bam, wishing him the best in life, not likening him to a killer, but his attempt at a relevant return to skateboarding reminded me of Gator's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHFIbN2PByQ

thanks man! I was pissed this was not available in Europe, so fuck you Vice, it's 2017. Shit's global.

Anyways I thought that was a good episode overall. I wish Bam the best, it's crazy how much of his skating ability he had lost.

Also I have to say I'm surprised at people saying his parents were the best? It's pretty obvious they were super loving but did not offer much in the way of discipline....and Bam lacked that IMO. his mom actually says it herself. fuck I'm raising two boys right now and there's no way I want them to grow up to be pissing on me. They need to get straightened out every once in a while.

Finally whatever happened with Bam's brother ? Isn't it weird he had an older brother that skated and was never ever seen?

yeah, but there's a little bit of it being like the eldest of Ozzy's kids that was ignored in the reality show.  Jesse/Jess Jess was shown every now and then in the older stuff, but there does seem like a conscious effort to not mention him

in the epicly laterd they mention that Jess has a kid now so maybe a life of anonymity unlike his brother's seemed more up his alley.

im sure being in a band was more his steez than being bombarded with mtv's cameras 24/7

Jess aint the only one from that clique to opt out of fame after all the Jackass stuff started happening.

i guess the bullemia explains why his teeth were looking in rough shape.  what really blew me away was realizing how young Bam was during the height of all that jackass stuff.  I was in high school and thought he was in his mid to late 20s.  Never would have guessed he was 21,22

Interesting that u bring this up. When bam was on that celebrity "Family Therapy with Dr. Jenn " show, it revealed that he has an odd relationship complex with ape and phil. As supportive as they were, they also served as enablers to his lifestyle to a extent, because they give him too much leeway and support, which prevents him from learning from his mistakes.  I guess also, when bam was a kid, Phil had a tendency to be a prankster with them (i.e. tricks, jumpscaring, and something about driving on a local scary road at night to scare them) and Bams need to torture them in his shows served as a manifestation from those parts of his childhood.

It was some pretty heavy shit, but really interesting. Hope he continues on an upward path. I'm not sure it's healthy to make an expos? about someone in active recovery struggles, though. The pressure bam might have with everyone knowing this about him must be gnarly.

For what it's worth, I remember hearing that Ozzy's eldest daughter decided to stay out of the TV show for her own privacy, and if there was a conscious effort to exclude Jess Margera, I'd expect it was for the same reason.

Really enjoyed this, especially having grown up in the Jackass/Viva La Bam era. Hope he gets back on board, drops the bottle. Definitely looked pretty hungover throughout the episode.

i would say a bit of the enabling comes from that fact that his parents probably made $80-90 thousand a year combined, and at a very young he's making millions a year, i know he got them a new house at some point really early on, so how do you control a kid who is supporting you, and by the time it got to MTV stuff they were working for him.

Yall gotta realize that the whole point of AA (Alcoholics anonymous) is to stay anonymous while airing shit out. It was probably easier for Novak to go to those meeting because he wasn't a huge star like Bam. It's not like Bam can go to those meeting and speak about the horrible shit he's done and not get any nonjudgemental shit for it because everyone in the room will probably know him.
A lot of people that are way more famous than BAM go to AA, they generally go to meetings at some ungodly hour like 6 or 7 in the morning, everyone one of my friends that has a court mandated AA thing and a 9-5 type job tell me about what famous person is in their 6 am meeting.
I never even knew that Darrell Hammond owned a house in New Orleans, but he goes to AA meetings here.

yea for anyone saying its not like bam can go into AA cause hes so famous ive been to a meeting in south florida with stevo who is arguably just as famous, granted its a 12pm small mens meeting but still being famous isnt a excuse, its clear he either doesnt feel he needs it or just plain doesnt want to stop drinking yet, he may just need to try some controlled drinking and see how it goes i know i did. also one of AAs traditions is ?Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio and films." so it kinda goes against tradition to try and force AA on anyone hence why novak never mentioned AA directly and said maybe he can do it without it because who knows, everyones different, if bam feels he needs it then it should be entirely his decision not someone else's. i did find it strange that novak wouldnt have reached out to bam but they also say in the rooms to distance yourself from these "old" friends and its obvious bam was a big enabler to novak and its not his place to try and force him into the rooms/get help only support him if he does decide to. wonder if stevo ever talked to him?

it was also weird that he looked shaky on transition

watching his old parts it was pretty obvious that he was literally one of the most comfortable and best transition skaters there ever was. All that cab rewind into 5050 stuff on ramps was like nothing to him
