I always thought this song must have been inspired by “Say Yes.” It’s also got a descending chord progression and the lyrics even have “say yes” in them.

is this a love song? not sure. but straight’s an elliott smith fan and this one’s got that sad love feeling. there was a rumor that elliott smith wrote this song and threw it away and mary lou lord picked it up out of the trash.

lynch is a fucking genius .. i just watched that scene a few times in a row right now and im betting that line about eating bread all day was an add lib / inside joke that the actors did because of “beckys” authentic reaction .. i know lynch likes to leave those moments in his work .. or amanda seyfried is just really good at acting
