Hey all, new here. I've always done my heelflips with the toe of my shoe, rather than the actual heel of my foot. I end up getting wear around the pinky toe spot on my front shoe from them.
Anyone have any idea what these are called, or if its a horrible habit and I should re-learn to do them with my actual heel of my shoe.
Thanks!

kickflip...?

jeremy wray heelflips his kickflips
-
I think you just have yourself a little bit of a weirdheelflip. I think everyone does them a bit differently.
-
kickflip...?
Its the direction of a heelflip though, just using the same part of your shoe as you would with a kickflip.
-
I used to skate with this kid who did heel flips in kickflip position. He would pop and kick the board with his toe like one would kick a foot ball and they worked, strangest damn thing... you’re not alone
-
Here's the answer of what to call your modified heelflip.
weirdheelflip
-
Haha I do this. Was actually trying to relearn them last night the proper way. I think if you square your foot up and do the same action you end up flicking with your heel?
-
My friend heelflips with a proper kickflip foot position and his shoes get the typical heelflip scuffs.

I've tried that before and usaully end up giving up after a few minutes. I've been doing it this way for so long my flick is pretty consistent every time so I doing it the "proper" way frustrates me haha.
-
I do this too! Because of that I can sort of do heelflip one foots/ollie norths? or some thing smiliar to that, I can also do them with kickflips.
-
I am jealous of your flexible ankles.
-
whatever works for you, sounds uncomfortable tho. i've seen heelflips done this way. also saw a video of a dude doing this and kickflip with his heel. think that was just to prove it could be done.
-
will one of you weirdos post a clip of you doing a heelflip with your toe because my brain is not able to paint this mental picture and i need to see it.
-
I think heelflips look much better when done with the toe. Plus there's more control in the flick.
-
i've always hung my toe off but ya know, to each their own
-
I point the toe of my front foot slightly toward the back when setting up for a heel.

i hang my toes of a little bit and flick with the ball of my foot.. not my heel. i think that's pretty normal? you actually flick with ur toe? that's weird but i guess it works for you! i'm curious to see what it looks like
-
Yeah, I come in here every day looking for the footage of this weird ass heelflip and have been disappointed. Anyone got proof this is real?
-
i could film what they are talking about its kinda like when beginners kickflip down instead of out.
for my nollieheel i put my toes lined up with the edge of the board and use the ball of my foot to force the board forward and down as opposed to accross and out like a normal heelflip.
-
if they are talking like a forwardflip taken one step further and kickfliping the heelflip side of the board thats just fucked up

vids or it didnt happen

is it that hard to imagine? on a standard heelflip your front foot toes will be pointed slightly up as your foot leaves the board. for ball-of-foot heelflip toes are pointed down the whole time.
another way to explain it is to get into primo you can rotate the board heelflip direction by using the balls of you feet. its the same thing but with popping
-
So still no footage? Someone deliver.
-
OP is talking about pinky wear from doing heelflips so i think he is talking about something different than the people using the ball of their foot against the concave
-
I might have to step up if nobody else will do it.. I guarantee it will look shit. Where can I upload the video so that I don't have to open an account?
-
I grew up around a dude who did the weird toe heel flip, but had that shit amazing. Totally perfect. Another strange thing I thought was that, that same dude had nollie tres perfect. But almost no other flat ground tricks..

do you have instagram? put it on that.
i still can't picture anyone flipping a heelflip without using the heel of their foot to kick the board around.

Hermanni, nice👌 Also, how the fuck you’ve learned to heelflip that way? Like, do you always heelflip that way of just for fun?

I don't know, just one day I thought that why heelflips are generally so ugly is because your front toes are hanging outside.. And why kickflips are more beautiful is that they enclose the flick so why not try implement that in to a heelflip too..
Also I can't do them the "real" way..
-
im going to need the 4k super slow mo version to actually figure out how you did that. it looked nice though.
-
I can kinda do them like that after I was trying to learn Neen heelflips. Problem is it utterly destroys the ollie spot on my shoe to the point where it's not even worth it cause I'll have a hole after doing 10 of them.
-
When i was first learning them, Stevie Williams had a how to in one of the mags on heelflips. He said after the pop, push down with the ball of the foot and slide it toward the nose. Thats the technique i still use to this day.
-
Came across this video of Neen doing heelflips. I think it shows the foot placement clearly and I didn't know he does them the same way I do...

Some shoes I have to do heelflips with the foot like that (Neen's).
Mostly slimmer shoes thats not very thick or straight/bulky with the heel.
-
I always have to correct myself that the front foot goes out, not up. People may do them differently, but I always get a foot or two of extra pop when I think about the balancing of pressure before the pop and then to concentrate that pressure by releasing it horizontally to the board, not upwards.
-
I do my heelflips and inward heels both with toes. If New England weather decides it wants to cooperate I’ll film for shits and giggles this weekend.
-
I learned them the same....(but obviously not the same) as Neen....you use the balls of your feet.... Jam it into the concave....I started hanging my toes like everyone else but I saw this recently and revisited it...

I learned the “proper” way as heelflips were my first fliptrick, but now I can’t for the life of me do them that way.
Probably one of the harder basic tricks to make look good.

I set up for heelflips really similar to ollies, and my friend loves to give me shit for that. My heelfips also wear down the ollie area of my shoe and the regular heelflip part too, and I always thought that was super weird. Also fucks my shoes up at the ollie area big time. Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that!
