(Graphic designer/vine sensation Joey Martinez (@phat_joey on Insta; give my dude a follow) does a run of shirts that John Hill apparently likes ; so much so that he reproduces them in a manner which proves the ‘generation loss’ theory/manner. I’ve seen you guys get up in arms when Target or H&M steals from us, but what about a fellow skater? Dude has been deleting comments and blocking people as well as deleting the post of the photo above. There are SO many ideas out there, why steal one? Don’t you have pride?

Yeah, I originally saw something similar on twitter, possibly written by the same dude, the original artist’s brother. But that tweet was deleted so I ended up just going with what I knew.
Dude also apparently isn’t selling that shirt now.

While that’s true, his comment on the original post makes this a different story. Whenever H&M et all rip off something, there’s always some form of plausible deniability. In this case, him commenting on the original removes the possibility of claiming it was his idea, or that he is inspired by something that has lapsed into the public domain... no one is paying Michaelangelo royalties for the creation of man anymore.
Dude ripped off a someone (another skater) that is attempting to make graphic design his career.
Corny or not, it’d have been a great move to put that you designed a shirt for a d-list streetwear company on your resumé. But it didn’t happen. John Hill said “never mind, I’m not commissioning you for your work anymore” and went ahead and made a knock of instead... then deleted/blocked people calling him out for it. Apparently Hill and the original artist came to an agreement and Hill is apparently not selling the shirt anymore (and being a brat in the comments about it). Regardless, dude should be fucking ashamed of himself.

Could be more tricky then we know. If he did indeed commission said artist about it, then it's certainly a possibility that he requested the artist to work around his own artistic vision for it, i.e. "make it with two hands reaching for each other... position it this way. " etc. It really depends on the terms of service that the artist provided to hill. Hill could have commissioned him to create it, whilst paying him enough to own the original image as well; allowing him to modify it to his own desire .
Otherwise its just a concerned homie looking out for a friend, but ya know... not having the full story. Not a good idea. This could be detrimental to both parties involved with in itself, reputation-ally speaking. Because the third party getting himself involved may not be privy to the details of communication, John hill could come out looking shitty for it, and the artist may also lose potential clients who wouldn't want to deal with any potential friction when working with him.

Doesn't shock me that he would be alright with jacking someone elses idea. Him being a sneaky self centered ass is why he was essentially eradicated from the industry, and why he has had to resort YouTube and sponsors like Revive. Sadly, its worked out awfully well for him, but what goes around comes around I guess. Like 99% of Youtubers, his audience will get bored of his content eventually and he will go away.

From what I’ve heard, the guy would go on trips and couldnt get along with anyone. With Birdhosue he went on 1-2 trips and he was apparently always concerned with only what he wanted to do, and if they went to a spot or something he didn’t like, he would throw a little fit and take off somewhere else. He even confirmed this story and admits fault, so ill give him props for that.
Then, there’s another story where his board sponsor after Birdhouse did something he didn’t like, so the whole time he was filming for their video he was shitting on the company behind their back and didn’t use their boards in the footage purposely to make a “statement” or some petty shit like that. He has also admitted to this story.
These are the two examples I’m near certain actually happened (because he even admitted to them) but apparently there’s more of these antics.
So that’s apparently why he had no sponsors for awhile, because word got around he’s difficult to deal with, and no one wanted to deal with his bullshit, hence him being “eradicated.” That’s when he started YouTube and we know the rest.
Idk, I’m just saying he seems like he has 100% tunnel vision on himself and doesn’t see how his actions affect other people, therefore, I am not shocked that he would steal someone elses idea like this and be okay with doing it, because he fails to see how that’s morally not cool, and only sees how it benefits his brand.

I know he had a couple of "check out" videos. He used to ride for Birdhouse, Lakai and shortly rode for the Friendship skateboards. There's a video where he talked about something along the lines of not seeing eye to eye with any of the teams and he'd rather skate whenever he wanted. It seemed like he left the industry on his own. I hate on him all day, but no one can deny he isn't making a decent amount of YouTube money.

Honestly, I can't blame dudes for vlogging if they want to get paid and skate whenever they want. Work a 9-5 and have a set schedule or make youtube videos and skate whenever you want? Fuck it, make the youtube videos.
