so tigard (suburban portland) just built a new skatepark, and its epic, except for one little problem...

pay extra attention to #3 on the rules...
"by entering and remaining in the skatepark, you voluntarily give consent to have any backpack, bag, or other container searched by tigard police."
rule three of the tigard skatepark apparently supercedes amendment four of the constitution.
this is a big deal. if this goes unopposed, it could easily start a trend of police state skateparks everywhere.
the dudes at skate and annoy are trying to raise a stink about this. go kick in a couple bucks to make some stickers. here's a couple links...

blow this up. post bulletins on myspace, start threads on any other messageboards you might post on, write some letters, do whatever you can to draw attention to this story... if this gets swept under the rug, it will be one more nail in the constitutions coffin.

i know, i know....
im not overjoyed by the barney mafia's stranglehold on portland park and rec, either, but theres a bigger issue here.
(and the ed benedict plaza should be barney free. at recent planning meetings, portland's head barney was repeatedly told to shut the fuck up whenever he'd bring up putting a kidney pool in the plaza... plus, with newline doing construction, it should turn out pretty good. )

Super fun park, and just because you can't skate tranny no need to hate on it. But I am looking forward to Ed Benedict, should be a fun design and hopefully will clear all the kids from Glenhaven.
But yeah fuck them trying to take away my rights!

The search thing is really lame, though do you think they'll ever actually search anyone? I agree that the fact that they could if they wanted to is wrong, but that seems like one of those things that they would just put to keep kids in line.
And why are you guys hating on the dinosaur? That thing's fucking rad.

Same rule applies when you're in school. A couple friends found that out the hard way.
Ha, yeah I have a couple stories like that myself, part of the reason I'm doing internet school this year actually.
And when I was looking for more pictures of the park, I found this article on it. The headline alone is the reason that newspapers shouldn't cover anything related to skateboarding.

the wording is a little vague... like, if you enter the park, can they search "any" bag? what if its in your car down the street? what if the bag is on the other side of the fence? what if you leave the park (is this search right in perpetuity)? ridiculous...
