Actually, I have quite a bit of experience in this industry and I'd have to say that the pickyness you are referring to is something that pros and mags have taught kids. Like myself, we were all average kids before skating. Then you start skating and notice the people who oppose it, which makes you feel like everything is against skating. Then you feel like an outcast to society or a rebel. And now it's ingrained in skating and along with that the culture was born. Not to hate but pros seem to hand out advice to impressionable kids and they're horrible at it. I've always said that the mags preach the culture as being open minded yet they preach style to the point where a guy can actually suck but cause his style is good he's making it. Who fucking cares about a push? I rarely see pushes that are so horrible I have to comment on it.I thought openmindedness would lead me to believe that it's up to the viewer. I don't know, maybe that's why a lot of these young up and comers skate like robots. No flare and nothing to distinguish themselves from the next young up and comer. Maybe cause the protype mold that they were taught was the best is the same for everyone. My line of thinking isn't science. It's just being myself at all times. Do I look in a mag and decide to put on a flannel cause everyone "coincidentally" has one on. NO!
I can care less about the skating being a sport debate so I'll say it's not an "organized" sport but it is a sport, and all sports pros are subject to great criticism. It's the nature of the machine.

i think hate helps the industry in the sense that companies know exactly who they are marketing to, and exactly who to put on their teams to broaden their market. jamie holds his companies down perfect. older skaters wouldn't be caught dead with garrett hill board but nobody would be ashamed of a rattray board. and mystery has it all for everyone, eldridge, murphy, and carlin wouldn't be in the same sentence if not for mystery.
i'm not saying being a dick to skateboarders you don't know is a good thing, but its good that we don't rush to become aquainted or compliment each other.
and everyone should hate on every little thing when it comes to the internet. it is the best place to do it.

I somewhat agree. Reason my post sounded peace and hippy-ish is cause image plays a bigger role in a companies decision in sponsoring a guy than being open minded on a skateboard. That's sad. And that's what I loved about FF. It reminded me of a Beatles album when they got all trippy. It's scary to think of how this will effect some good clone skaters. There parts are gonna be off the hook now that FF just pimp slapped em a lesson or two.
