Probably not the biggest, but I used to drink a lot, even in unnecessary situations, like having 2 king cans before going to a job interview.
I once skipped work for a week and went on a drinking binge. During that week I recall waking up at 9am, chugging like 4 beers, then decided to go to my friends house. I cut through an elementary school field, during recess, and started puking while a lot of kids were watching me. Some teacher even asked me if I was ok.

I put the plug in the jug a week ago. I lost my ID and my screensaver called me an achoholic.
I though this thread would be a great place to use the phrase "plug in the jug".

I haven't gone a day without at least 1 drink in the last 7 years. I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic, but i sure as fuck am a drunk. Being a bartender didn't help. Neither do free drinks after work. Hah, now that i think about it, i had one of my best sessions skating while drunk off of a cheap Bordeaux. I think i got my first real deal line like that. fs flip, fakie flip, half cab, bs 180. I threw up after that. i woke up drunk and stuck between my sink and bathroom wall. I had to yell for help.

Working in the service industry really doesn't help things. Constantly surrounded by free alcohol and enablers....
I go out drinking after work (4-5 nights a week) and will almost always black out by the end of the night. I do make it a point not to drink on my days off though (unless there is a reason,) which I think does a lot to keep me in line.
I've gone back and forth on if i'm an alcoholic or just a drunk. I don't think i'm dependent on it, I don't crave it, i've never had anything bad happen as a result of drinking (injuries, trouble with work, school or the law, etc,) but I do go through at least 30 beers a week. And some whiskey too.

I usually drink 4-6 beers a day... 8-12 on Saturdays. It's because my job is depressing then I get off at 6pm with nothing to do till bedtime.

i only hit the liquor these days as a nightcap, if i have a lady over, or at a party where it's free . it's too expensive at the bar, and i get pass out drunk anyway. i tend to stick to beer and wine. I start drinking wine around lunch and when i get off of work i usually shoot over to a friends to drink on an 18 pack till me and said friend finish it.

i have about 80 black outs a year, i drink on 200 days a year ... i don't go skating on weekends, because of hungovers.
i don't drink hard stuff often, mostly beer. i drink when i'm alone too. most of the people would tell me, that i drink too much.
i once had a 8 week period where i didn't touch any alcohol, because i made too much bullshit while beeing drunk.

I wouldnt go so far as say im an alchoholic, but some days i do physically crave it, usually happens when i see people drinking or i drive past a liqour store, lately i havent had the budget to even eat so ive kinda put it on hold, but ill crack and run down to the store and grab a 40 just so i can have something to drink.
I usually dont get black out drunk however, theres few nights i let my self get there, i tend to back off after 10-12 beer and just slowly drink the rest of the night.

I drink beers most nights of the week, whichwould mean most nights period. I don't get wasted every night, but i do pass out on my couch with half beers around 5 nights. I think it happens because i get out of work bwtween 10pm-12am. There's nothing left to do but go to the bar, come home at one, and drink more. If i had a girlfriend i'd probably drink less, or at least not by myself every night. I quit drinking liqour for almost a year because i was on a streak of blacking out every time i drank the shit. It started with telling the wrong girls "i love you." Then the day after last st paddys day i woke up in my car on my buddys front lawn. Later on he showed me phone pics of me on top of a kid that i remembered him fighting with earlier and i was hitting him with his grey goose bottle. I remembered none of it.
last night i went to the skatepark after shooting pool getting stoned and drikning beers all afternoon and learned fs early grabs in the deep end of the pool. I was wearin my fresh white nikes too. aaahahhaha, shit was sick.

I would ask if I had a drinking problem, but if you have to ask, than you do.
You basically can't escape it. It's the inevitable fate for all those who think about alcohol in any way.
I wrote this computer program to tell me I'm an alcoholic, but it didn't work and I felt slightly sadder.
I remember when I was younger I got confused alot because I kept having dreams that I turned 21 and I thought I was 21. Then when I actually turned 21, I just thought it was another trick my mind was playing on me.

I passed out drunk during lectures at 10 am at university 8 times this semestre. Got thrown out of two because, and I quote the professor, I "stink like a street dog who slept in a puddle of cheap beer".
Actually now that I think of it I'm not laughing anymore. It's kinda sad. But I've been sober for 5 days now, and studying for my exams everyday.

fuck! i have shoddy internet at the apt so im usually not on the boards on the weekend. not an alcoholic but a drunk for sure. i've been wanting to calculate how much a week i spend on alcohol but im kind of scared to.
alcoholic economics suggestions:
.99 cent 24oz of coors are great for that after work/skate booze fix
in order to cut costs ive been debating buying a 9.99 30 pack of natty light every week instead of spending 7-8 dollars on a sick pack of bud tall boys every time i drink during the week. sacrifice quality, but puts a couple extra dollars in you wallet for...
.99 cent bottles of jim beam for the bar. bring them in the bar, take the shot in the bathroom, wrap bottle in paper towel/toilet paper, dispose bottle. you get four shots for the amount that you would normally pay for one. saves you at least 20 dollars (if you figure in tips for said shots). of course if you get caught its an instant kick out, but if you go in a stall you probably wont get found out unless you're an idiot. like myself.

If I'm gonna cause some trouble in a bathroom stall like that, I take a cigarette and dump out most of the tobacco, crumble some weed in there, twist the top, go outside, bite off the filter, light that shit, you get like 2-3 pulls off the herb, and then you're good. Definatly not the biggest alchy on slap, I do drink on weeknights though, and I bring beer to skate sessions. And I always suggest to get beers whenever I'm with someone during the day anywhere. My only fool proof hangover cure is to get drunk again, and when I'm feeling shitty and have a beer it makes me feel amazing.

I have drinks everyday, I just got done binging after a month or so. November was a blur.
Suppose I consider myself a drunk, I have the weight and greasiness to prove it. Drinking is awesome, but the ramifications are fucking shitty i.e. 30lbs of weight gained from a habit over the last year, fucking with my ability to skate, money drain, etc...
I've went through withdrawal before and it fucking sucks. Shakes, feverish feeling, and constantly sick, two week migraine... yeah.
But I remain drinking because I work two jobs, and I'm usually alone bored in my house. Finally I'm starting to slow it though.
Anyway, economic suggestions... I primarily drink bum wines (md 20/20 13%), wild irish rose (18%), thunderbird(17.5%) and steel reserve(8.1%), I've fortified my bedroom with steel reserve cans and have dubbed thee the house of steel. Tastes like shit, but gets you drunk. and at 99 cents a tall boy and 2.50 for bum wine you can get a buzz near $5.00. Gave up on cheap whiskies due to bad behavior and meanness, but love fucking wild turkey, yukon jack, and all that gut buster shit. I wasn't going to reply to the thread because i'm not the kind of guy who talks about how drunk they got, but felt compelled to talk about how much the service industry serves as a vacuum for alcohol abuse.
As far as a five year plan, i'm still in my 20s and will be out of school and with a real, non-service industry job in a few years, at which point i'll have no plans to continue drinking as much as I currently do.
Like I said earlier, I've never had any problems with drinking in my life up to this point, so I don't see a reason not to continue with my current level of drinking. If I started getting arrested or failing out of school or waking up in my own piss in alleyways, I would probably have a different attitude about things.

I wanna bring up a topic that hopefully won't derail this topic too bad, but I'd only think of it while drinking and listening to B&S... I've never really considered myself "religious". I did the stuff most parents make you do, confirmation and all that jazz.. my grandma's super religious and says how she prays for me (in a good way I think).. but I've always kinda thought it was "a crutch for the weak".
Despite that, I've often found myself laying in bed wishing that some power above would make my life better, or out skating.. trying so hard for an hour to get a trick you're like "just let me land this fucking trick!" But am I really asking God?
Am I in denial of my beliefs? Or do my inner cries have nothing to do with religion, and it's just me hoping for everything to work out fine? Maybe I'm just at a point where I'll accept reassurance from anyone... oh man this is in the alcoholic thread and everything..

I have drank 12 - 15 beers a night for the past 5 - 6 years.
It's seriously impossible to fall asleep without being drunk anymore. I know I should stop but it's just way to hard once you've done it for this long and it's the only way you can fall asleep without feeling like you're seriously loosing your mind.

Me and my friends know a lot of good drinking games.
Last one I heard was one with with jenga. You pick a piece from the tower, take a shot and put a shot in a large glass and so on. If the tower falls in your turn you have to drink the whole glass with liquor.
I know another one with a card stock. It's called ''kingsen'' in dutch. That's the best game ever.
Those games are quite handy to get wasted and have a lot of fun at the same time.

I went to Vegas with some friends once and it ended up kind of funny. My friend drove and I was drinking Jager and Nighttrain in the backseat the whole way. When we parked in an underground parking lot I got out and smashed my bottle and everyone got angry at me. I ended up going with this girl who kind of looked like a horse to the bar. We drank a long time and decided to go back to her room. On the way there I puked inside of a trash can and she got pissed I wasted all her money. We ended up in her room making out in bed next to some weird tattood guy. I kept telling her we should go fuck in the bathroom but the horse kept saying no and finally passed out. For some reason there was a bottle of whiskey next to the bed, so I drank from that and fell asleep. When I woke up I started drinking the whiskey and decided to skip breakfast.
I don't really know how I ended up at these crappy motels, but I ended up pretty wasted and decided to go for a walk. I was coming back and forgot which place it was. I had left my phone in the room, so I couldn't call my friend. Somehow I finally found the place and this black guy drove me around in a golf cart and took me to the room. I think he asked which room it was at the front desk because I told him my friends last name.
Somewhere along the way, I'm not sure which day it was, I tripped over a curb, fell on my face, and chipped one of my front teeth. After that I remember being in a mexican restaurant with a bloody face.
Next thing I remember is somehow talking to my ex and she was in Vegas at the same time as me. I took a taxi and gave the driver a 20 dollar tip. I don't remember this, but she said I showed up at the door wearing these sun glasses I found in the taxi and telling her how amazing these glasses were. Then I remember us sitting at a bar and I was drinking a fifth of Jack Daniels and I was insulting a business man at the bar. The bartender asked us to leave and these jocks come up and said " shit you drink Jack straight from the bottle!?". We ended up at their room and I guess i didn't like the way the were treating my ex. I remember being in some guys face telling him I was going to kill him. Next thing I know two cops come up from behind me and pull me away.They took me to jail and said I threw a chair through the jocks window. I said I didn't, but I wasn't quite sure. I had 300 bucks and said they could have it if they let me go. They did and even gave me my bottle of whiskey back. I ended up getting arrested 2 more times for trespassing(going back to the same hotel my ex was at).
The next morning I woke up in a lobby chair and was missing my shoes. I got ahold of my ex and she gave me 20 dollars before she drove home. Drinking is a problem for me sometimes and I don't really want to glorify it. I'm a guilty drunk and I have hard living with my addictions. I always feel out of control around booze and usually I just have to remove myself from situations at a certain point in the night.

I drink ud Light and only Bud Light, I can barely drink Molson Canadian cause it always comes up and I have to force myself to drink it. On spring break last year I tried to do a runner on a taxi driver while I was wasted. I had three hundred dollars in my wallet and was laughing with glee at not having spent a cent of it on a taxi, when I tripped over a curb and knocked myself out cold. Do you go through physical withdraw when you don't drink? Have you thought about an end game as far as your drinking goes?
Yes I've gone through physical withdrawal. I was prescribed librium when I was 21 because I drank from morning until night. When you do that and cut off alcohol abruptly you can have a seizure and 33% of people die from it. I guess it's the only drug withdrawal that can kill you directly. I quit for a little bit and then drank day and night again for about a year but I was able to hold a job and be somewhat responsible. Now I try to just stick to beer and wine but occasionally I slip up and go on a whiskey bender which usually ends with me me puking my guts out for a day or two. It seems like my stomach is kind of fucked up now.

I actually was forced to either be homeless or go to rehab at the beginning of this year. It was fucking horrible. I lasted for 22 days and realized most peoples problems weren't drugs and alcohol, it was just that they were idiots. I think the whole 12 steps AA thing is very creepy and cult like. If you have a weak mind and aren't a skeptic it might work for you, but if you're not religious and actually rational it's not very affective. I actually was forced to either be homeless or go to rehab at the beginning of this year. It was fucking horrible. I lasted for 22 days and realized most peoples problems weren't drugs and alcohol, it was just that they were idiots. I think the whole 12 steps AA thing is very creepy and cult like. If you have a weak mind and aren't a skeptic it might work for you, but if you're not religious and actually rational it's not very affective. Yeah AA is weird, and the few AA dudes I've met are kind of creepy. Like the kind of guys who tell you they're an alcoholic within the first five minutes you meet them. But whatever, if they swap out a destructive drinking habit for a creepy AA habit more power to them.
It's not the only model of rehab out there though. I guess you'll know when you're ready to kick that shit but you dudes pickling your livers kind of bum me out.

It sounds like you have a problem, but I'm not a doctor unlike Dr. Newton. But AA is weird and stupid and emo. If you don't want to quit, don't quit. It's a personal matter only you can decide.

Ugh... I'm throwing myself into a 30 liver detox in January. I gotta get some detox pills and fix my diet for the month. What I thought was an allergic reaction of hives mixed with Asian Red Face, was really my liver not being able to process alcohol as well as before.
Basically, when you see those bums with red face all the time, that's what I was getting. Until I get all those toxins out of my liver, I can freely be stupid and drink again like a fish. None of my friends think I can do it, either.
I'm thinking it'll be like being Josh Hartnett in 40 Days and 40 Nights, except instead of masturbation, it's booze.

The same exact thing happened to my friend recently. It's probably a matter of time till this happens to me. Seeing how I've been going through about a gallon of Bacardi a week at home and then going out.

You won't be able to drink alcohol but your body will still crave some kind of consumption.
I switched alcohol with food and ice cream. It worked for me.
You'll probably gain weight but you'll be damn healthy when it's over.

I'm slowly prepping myself to detox in a month. I went Monday - Wednesday with only having tea after dinner. It is now Thursday, and I'm having wine and about to finish Prince of Persia.

since this has become slap's AA, I'll throw out that I haven't had a drink since the 2nd, tomorow will be 14 days. I know "resolutions" are bullshit but I'm trying to cut drinking back to once a month. Maybe completely except for real special occasions if I actually feel any better at the end of the month.
Instead of consumption of food, I've been skating a lot. I'm sore all the time, but at least I don't feel I've pissed a whole day away in 2 weeks like I've done so many times.

my Dad is an actual alcoholic, but has been sober for almost 5 years, he did the whole rehab thing and everything. shits gnarly.
It helped me get a good perspective on how serious alcohol.
he doesn't do teh AA, he says the shits gay as fuck, surrendering himself powerless, he just doesnt drink cause he understands he can't control it.

Everything in moderation is key.
Some people just have to put the bottle down because they suck at drinking. Like beeda said, some people just have no control with alcohol. All the demons come out when they drink, and they turn into a totally different person. Sometimes it takes a case, and sometimes just a bottle or two. When I see this happen to someone, I say they're going "to the dark side".
Others, it's for health concerns. The liver needs time to relax, and eventually gets beat up to the a point you get a weak immune system. The 30 days of not drinking is a common thing for a lot of people I know. Although, I haven't tried it just yet, so I'm really going to have to find my substitute. I swear, booze it's the only common thing I have with the rest of the world.

i was doing great cutting back but had to stop smoking for a month due to an upcoming life insurance blood test. if my blood has cotine in it then i'll be paying an extra bill a month for my policy. it really sucks because a nice fade after work gets me movtivated to go ride my bike or skate and now instead i get off after 12 hours and all i want to do is drink beer and wine and have some food.
for you guys trying to cut back, perrier scratchs the beer itch for me pretty nicely.

I managed to stop drinking pretty much all together. I am amazed I kept my job during those years.
After some blood tests my doctor told me I had damaged my liver but it should be ok seeings I'm only 36.
Good thing is I don't miss it at all. But it is hard sometimes being out and everyone's drinking. Harder when it gets to the later hours at people are shit faced and talking to you about 3cm from you.

i'm sober of drinking since november 2010. i don't miss it but when i'm around everyone drinking i either get annoyed [dry drunk syndrome?] or kinda sad. i skate better and ain't got no local warrants or wonder what happened after i blacked out and sure enough, i pissed someone's couch/bed/floor again. i can still fuck w/ other shit cause alcohol was my problem and that's worked out well although asides atavan i'm pretty much all the time sober as a judge.

I've cut back. After I turned 21 I was just buying beer because I was able to. So i kept it in the house, and going through a six pack in a week turned into 2-4 beers every night after a while and I just felt shitty and was wasting money. So I don't keep any liquor bottles or anything more than a tall bottle of Kirin in my house. Feeling better and my moneys are looking good.

I don't understand how someone could like alcohol to the point where it controls there life. But then again, I don't drink, I cannot stand alcohol, I hate the way it makes me feel. Props to everyone on here who has turned there life around though. I've had alcoholism in my family and I see what it does.

I had to cut myself off 6 weeks ago when I started drinking Bullseye whiskey at 1 in the morning,
finished a bottle and started drinking beer. by 9 am I was a bottle and six pack deep. Decided to 'borrow' my roommates car and dog and go for a 40 mile joy ride, throwing back brews the entire time.
When I got home, I noticed a big rubber kid's ball had gotten picked up and found its self stuck in the icy creek behind my porch. Like an idiot I tried to walk out onto the ice to grab the ball, I heard the ice start to crack so I tried to back up slowly, slipped up onto my back and went ass-end first into the freezing creek.
After that night/morning I haven't touched any alcohol. Definitely feel like I have way more energy. Its been almost 50 days sober now

Wine was my drink of choice. Cheap and instant high. I would keep empty powerade bottles in my car and fill it up with wine so it was easy to slam fast having a bigger mouth piece. Drinking 2 bottles of $4 white in 5 minutes would get you where you needed to go. Or at home with a 4 litre goon bag.
It got to the point where I thought I would die. Did A.A, detox, rehab over and over but I never stopped. One time I spent a successful stint in rehab and felt awesome. When I left I got a taxi straight to the bottle shop with hospital wrist tags and IV tracks showing while I was paying. Not a proud moment.
Normally it would take me ending up in hospital to stop me drinking for a few days but one day I woke up and thought "this is weak. I'm taking the cowards way out" and stopped. Not really that easy but you get the picture.
Sorry for the novel I just wrote. It really stokes me out to read other pals kicking it too.

i was bad like that too. i'd dry out in jails for a wkend or sometimes longer, once in portland i puked into my own lungs and aspirated. got treated for pneumonia and hit the ground running. every time i've been arrested on a freight train unit it's cause i was too drunk to wake up at crew change so they had cops do it. all but one or 2 of my heron OD's were as a result of being drunk first [double digits].
aspirated at the carlottaween 2010 party in BR and they did an MRI. i woke up in the ICU and they told me i was drinking away my frontal lobes [atrophic encephalopathy] to which i argued 'how come i'm still good at jeopardy? what about bukowski?' but another 10 or so days of drinking and i tapered down to 2 40s and some benzos then got back on board. to each their own but i am certainly more stable w/out it even though i don't talk my way into pussy too much anymore but for honest i had to stay drunk to tolerate the girls attached to said pussies.

yikes! some of the street kids i met in my traipsing days drank mouthwash or 'warsh' as they called it. one is in europe bumming around, one just got charged w/ murder and another had his girlfriend pass away and i haven't heard word from him in a long time. that gout sounds gnarly!

Be carful with that. If you passed away the insurance company does a post-mortem blood test. If you test positive for substances that you didn't disclose on your policy they can void your coverage and they won't pay out.

I've cut back a lot. From 22-25 was pretty much going out with friends every night and getting hammered. Had a ton of good times and did a lot of dumb shit, but now I've got a book of good stories.
Nowadays I still go out with friends on Friday or Saturday but during the week its just a couple casual beers after work with dinner. I drink a ton of water and have never had soda, so I don't think of a few beers after work as a problem at all. Nothing wrong with having a beer on a nice afternoon on the porch either. I think keeping liquor out of the house is nice too, beer doesnt make me feel like shit the next day.

I don't know what your relationship to alcohol is (aside from the fact that you've got a desire to give it up), but I've wrestled with the sauce myself for more than a decade (I'll be 29 in a few weeks). My longest streak of sobriety was something like 1.5 years. I put it down again about a month ago, after letting myself drink for a little over a year, and am feeling happy about it. We'll see what happens...
Usually I end up quitting because my body rebels against me, I've hurt somebody, or some combination of the two. My vanity makes it difficult to walk around looking bloated all the time, and my integrity/empathy (when available) make it difficult to be an asshole to the people I share my life with.
When I start drinking again, it's usually because I get nostalgic for the act, or the "sport" of drinking, or because I've deceived myself into thinking that I've become more mature, or have more self control, or I just want to lay claim to some agency or personal freedom or some other mystified bullshit.
At any rate, I'm sure you're in good company. This is probably the first time I've posted about my issues with drinking (I thank you for opening the space to do so), but I can recall reading a bunch of posts from others on this topic in the past.
Sober living can be tough. But if your experience is anything like mine, you've got a a lot of room to grow, and that should prove really rewarding.
*EDIT - pugmaster, your reservations about AA are justified in my eyes. I've been a couple of times and something about the whole thing was very off-putting. I couldn't justify going into a group where people are encouraged to obsess recurrently over their addictions and personal shortcomings. I'm something of a hermit, though, sober or otherwise, so my perspective is limited.

Anyhow, if it does help that's cool. I just know for me, that would never work and is some backwards ass thinking.

It has been slightly over a decade for me. The longest I've been able to do is 11 days. That being said, I was just winging it. It's so cool how many have successfully gotten over it, definitely motivating. I look forward to being able to be in a position like that in the future.
Not soon after declaring I'd put down booze the Universe aligned and lo-and-behold.... the quasi video popped up on pornhub. This was definitely a sign from above

I wanna/have to stop drinking this week (kids goin to school at a Montessori next month n it's a bit pricey) but I'm drinkin as I type this... Never wanted to, just smoked reefer but the week of my 21st birthday got a felony possession of weed so couldn't partake in that anymore n decided to start drinking...
Now I'm 35 (or 36, I dunno) and over time became a very functionable alcoholic... like to read, skate, play/learn music, draw, ride long distance bike rides, etc., all whilst drunk. In the back of my mind I wonder if I would be even better at these things sober...
Been drunk everyday for I don't even know how many years save for a few days about once a year when I get sick an gotta take antibiotics. After a few days of not doin it I get cocky and think I got a handle on it, I don't... I just keep goin back to the bottle shop.
Past year been up to a twelver of IPA's a day: Drink half after work n go skate or ride a bike then drink the other half after the session. Been waking up an the sessions that were just the day prior feel like weeks ago, gotta really remember what I had for dinner last night, wifes always mad at me for somethin, chewed out a neighbor bad the other night (she ran over my board though), pretty positive one of the guys at the bottle shop is taking my money while I'm on a good one, etc...
So yeah, I have to stop real soon cuz if I don't then kid don't go in school and I would be a really big asshole if that went down...
I'll stop drinking in solidarity with u tomorrow. (really).

God, you sound like me. I still drink, just socially, so maybe once a month I'll have a few beers. I got fucking fat from the IPAs... I'm still fat but my pants fit better now. I went out with the boys to a show the other night, had 7, wanted to die the next day. I don't know how I did that every day for years, drinking heavy ass beer. It was adding at least an extra 1000 calories daily.

For me, this is honestly the worst part about drinking. Any time I quit, I drop 20-40 lbs within a month or two, without upping my exercise. I'm really fond of being drunk (until I'm not anymore) but I can't fucking stand to be fat.

Gotten drunk every night for six years now. Was waking up and continuing drinking in the morning (shots, not beer) about five years ago, recognized that was a problem so tapered off and quit for two weeks. Had the house to myself one night and drank a fifth of gin, broke my glasses. Been a drunk ever since, haven't seriously considered stopping again. A handle lasts me 3-4 days now, if I spring for a cheap six pack it stretches out the liquor. I used to drink because I hated life, now I drink because my body is dependent and I just enjoy being juuuust the right amount of drunk. Wake up still kinda drunk every day, take a tiny bit of adderall and off I go. That archer quote about the collective hangover killing him is getting less and less funny to me, but what can ya do.

i feel like my drinking problems are opposite than most people. i can drink regularly, almost every night, and be totally fine. i dont drink too much, i dont black out, i wake up feeling fine in the morning. social drinking is where my problem lies. it seems like everyone else can go out with friends and have a few drinks and keep it together, but the only way i can is if i have to stop after two or three so i can drive home. if i dont have drive anywhere, i always end up having too much fun which turns into too many drinks and a blackout. i always wake up in the morning hating myself and having to ask if i did something bad. luckily i dont drink socially very often, but i feel like i cant do it anymore. it used to be fun getting drunk with my friends, but more often than not i wind up getting way more fucked up than everyone else and making an ass of myself. being sober around a bunch of drunk people sucks too, but at least i have a chance of keeping my dignity that way.

Used to drink around 3-4 times a week mainly weekends and for like a whole 6 months day drinking on Sundays, I remember one time putting back two growlers of IPAs on a Sunday then driving to work Monday still fairly tipsy not the brightest idea considering I could have just called in sick but yeah quit for 8 months then went back drinking can be fun but it can also sneak up on you really quickly

I wanna/have to stop drinking this week (kids goin to school at a Montessori next month n it's a bit pricey) but I'm drinkin as I type this... Never wanted to, just smoked reefer but the week of my 21st birthday got a felony possession of weed so couldn't partake in that anymore n decided to start drinking...
Now I'm 35 (or 36, I dunno) and over time became a very functionable alcoholic... like to read, skate, play/learn music, draw, ride long distance bike rides, etc., all whilst drunk. In the back of my mind I wonder if I would be even better at these things sober...
Been drunk everyday for I don't even know how many years save for a few days about once a year when I get sick an gotta take antibiotics. After a few days of not doin it I get cocky and think I got a handle on it, I don't... I just keep goin back to the bottle shop.
Past year been up to a twelver of IPA's a day: Drink half after work n go skate or ride a bike then drink the other half after the session. Been waking up an the sessions that were just the day prior feel like weeks ago, gotta really remember what I had for dinner last night, wifes always mad at me for somethin, chewed out a neighbor bad the other night (she ran over my board though), pretty positive one of the guys at the bottle shop is taking my money while I'm on a good one, etc...
So yeah, I have to stop real soon cuz if I don't then kid don't go in school and I would be a really big asshole if that went down...
I'll stop drinking in solidarity with u tomorrow. (really).
Awesome! I downloaded an app called "I am Sober" on my android. What is cool about it is that it keeps track of the number of days and you can input how much money you typically spent daily on booze and it keeps a running number of how much you've saved by not drinking. Each day you hit a milestone they have a motivational quote, which are sometimes pretty corny, but I like that it shows you the money you save. Not sure if they have it on iPhone or not.

I generally start drinking by 2 or so in the afternoon and end up somewhere between 6-10 tall cans each day. Then when I go out/hang out with friends I'll get activated and drink way more. Longest (by far) I've gone without it in ten years was around 9 months. I'm at that point where I'm feeling weird physically and anxious all the time and then repeating the cycle to make myself feel better. My financial situation is always fucked and skating is feeling worse and worse. I'm gonna try to do two weeks off then see if I can hold myself to 3 days a week but based on the past I don't know if I can balance it out. I'll keep checking in on this thread to see how dudes are doing.

Been drinking most of a 12er of Bells two hearted or Perps everyday for past 5 years. Went two days without a drink, which was huge, until yesterday. My father is stage 4, may pass any day. Wierd that I'm drinking less in such a crisis. Just trying to drink less everyday. Even if it means buying sessionable IPAs instead of the imperials. Used to drink 24/7 when I was living in a tent in Boulder canyon. A handle a day. I believe my drinking would be a lot greater if I hadn't gotten my mmj card as well. Really helps me with sleep.

Weird thing was last night I had a dream I was trying to get beer from a store before they closed and I succeeded. Then I woke out all bummed on myself. After I realized it was a dream I was pretty psyched. Then later today I started trying to rationalize having a desire. "Well it's been three days, I should celebrate."
I left work a little early and drove home before I could do anything stupid.
I'm glad I was not bad enough to where I had to worry about DTs or anything.

I make sure not to drink in the morning no matter what, had a dream last week that I woke up and took two sips out of a tall boy left over from the night before. Was heavily bummed in my dream, woke up and was heavily bummed until I figured out nothing happened. Pretty sure if a family member or close friend dies I'll morning mourning drink but beyond that it is not on the menu.

- Is drinking "too much" partly dependent on the culture/geography? As in, would people from Russia/Germany/USA collectively giver higher/lower numbers as to what's acceptable? Leaving places out where it's against their views and/or religion because they'd obviously say one is too many.
- Are there studies that give a definite number on what's "too much"? I'm sure that varies on the persons size + the type of alcohol but am curious. Is one or two 5% beers every night too much? At what point is it really affecting your health long term.
Obviously if you're drinking to the point of blacking out every night and ruining relationships/jobs I think most would agree you're probably drinking too much there.

I've looked it up before, according to American medical standards if you drink two beers a night you're an alcoholic. It's pretty ridiculous how low they've set the bar.

i had to go to court ordered outpatient rehab when i was 19 for a weed charge. they pretty much said if you enjoy drinking alcohol, youre an alcoholic.

Canada is absurd too. Perfectly normal to drink 15 beers a day here, every day. Plus lots of whisky

A buddy of mine used to manage a bar near my apartment, so I used to hang back after close with the employees and a few more regulars, get hammered, sleep on the bar, and then go to work the next day still half in the bag. Good times.

Wake up shaking having panic attacks and horrible existential dread hangovers every morning, then slam 3 "nips" or "airplane bottles" of 100 proof peppermint schnapps to feel normal. That kept me feeling good for maybe an hour or two, and then I would continue to drink those little bottles or Bud Light ___-A-Ritas until around mid afternoon. From there, I would pass out wasted in bed until early evening and continue the process all over again. Then I'd pass out at night and repeat the process yet again in the morning. Would eat about 1 slice of pizza and 1 cheap leftover pastry from roomie's workplace per day and that was all I ate every day.
I stopped that drinking habit cold turkey in August of said 2014 hell year, and the abrupt shock to my system gave me a permanent anxiety and depression disorder. I was pretty anxious and sadboi to begin with, but after the shock to my system from going cold turkey, it got amplified like 1000x and now I can hardly hold a conversation or leave the house unless I'm on drugs or something. To this day! 4 years later! GOOD STUFF, drinking is great & life is but a dream @_@

On day 3 right now and I definitely want a beer. Trying to use money-saving and "getting in shape" for motivation. Went to the gym yesterday for the first time in a while which was nice. Was hoping for a boost in energy right away but have still just been feeling lethargic, anxious and bummed.

I don't know if it's considered as an alcoholic, but I was definitely a problem drinker for more years than not. When I worked as a bouncer 10-12 drinks a night was considered pretty normal, and when I moved and got a different job I still was pounding 3-6 a night, sometimes in replacement of dinner (a poorly thought out plan to lose weight, although it worked). It generally made me over emotional, moody, and looking like shit, plus usually vomiting 1-2 a month.
After I got out of a bad relationship I actually toned down my alcohol use to once a week about a year ago, if that. I've been really cautious about drinking in excess. I'm realizing that since I'm in a better mood overall now it doesn't have the same affect on me now maybe?
According to my lady the only couple of times I've been real drunk I started speaking only in spanish, which seems pretty harmless.
Now I'm just making sure not to drink to try and escape reality (that's what weed is for) and I've only had one actual hangover in the last year, and that was from a trip to New Orleans.

Pretty good. The anxiety/lethargy/depression is very normal. I've been taking CBD to chill me out. I also took 2 sleeping pills the first week just so I could go to sleep easy. If you go to bed at 9 and get up at 5 or 5:30, you'll be tired naturally then you don't have to take sleeping pills. This is especially true if you are hitting the gym. I like these too (see below).

I have also been doing intermittent fasting each day. I eat a big meal at 12, then another one at like 6 or 7. Eating 1000 calories at 7 makes you too damn full to even want to drink beer.
Also, watching youtube videos that show people really drunk or going through alcoholism can be helpful too.

Turns out I got too loaded last night, fell asleep in an awkward position, pinched a nerve in my leg, and now my right foot is temporarily paralyzed for a few weeks.
Naturally, now that I can't skate, I've spent all day in bed drinking.

I enjoyed my PAWS for 2+ years.
Anxiety was so bad I pretty much cried a couple of times. To cope with that shit I developed som OCD-esque tendencies, which led to another set of problems.
Any way, just hang in there and try to do things that are positive to your health and mental state. I'm, by no means, a fanatic of being 100% sober but I had no choice. I'd rather suffer hard than go back to that shit. If you feel like switching to oils and kratom is the only thing preventing you from suicide, go ahead.
