Today I scored a brand new pair of Hi Top red keds (look like Chuck Taylor) and two Willie Nelson albums. My wife got a nice canvas laundry hamper.
Anyone else fan of thrift stores or garage sale shopping?
-
Value Village is a dope spot.
-
Yeah mon, I love rootin around for all the little random treasures you can find (bought some brand new hi-tek boots for six bucks and a duke ellington record for a dollar last time) plus you can get cheap clothes and pants to cut up and sew little bags and things. Which reminds me, anybody need a bag sewn for their pipe or bong or whatevs or a board bag for travelling with trucks and wheels on the bottom for easy transportation, let me know. I need $ so bad!!
-
bought some brand new hi-tek boots
gettin your 'Bone Thugs' on?

I got a GameBoy Color with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 for three dolla.
-
Pair of chet 4's.
Next person who skates and has a birthday is going to be psyched.
-
I got some sweaters a couple years ago and some really old transworld mags, I've never been back though. value village smells.

this crocheted picture of a unicorn shaking hands with some wood nymph. its bizarre
candid photo of a girl with cum dripping out of her mouth
painting of the pope with his arms in a 'raise the roof' position
this 'zelda: ocarina of time' tshirt. i think its the one you got if you preordered the game
'licensed to ill' on cassette
two vhs' of uncut footage of people getting killed. shits gnarly

endless amounts of gems, really, but here's some good ones off the top of my head:
a santa cruz rob roskopp III with indy's for $4
ipath cats
tan half cabs
a dreamcast and one controller for $10
-
i got some good stuff, but its the stuff i didnt buy that really bugs me. im still questioning why i didnt buy a t-shirt that said "what came first, the chicken or the egg" with a picture of an egg and a chicken both in bed smoking cigarettes. not even the biggest pile of shit would wear that to a nascar event
-
i just copped this beauty from a flea market for 8 bucks.
it goes for 30+ bucks on eBay. I am in no hurry to sell it. The dude that sold it was in the Olympics or some shit i guess. Weird.
-
I love thrift stores!
I go thifting often and I have a hard time spending more at places that arent thrift stores.
-
kegerator with two CO2 tanks for $200.
also found my dad's school records at a yard sale, I was looking through a filing cabinet in this old couple's garage when I came across them. The lady told me none of it was for sale, but when I told her it was my father's she gladly gave it to me for free. Kinda weird, but he was happy.
-
a girlfriend, wait that one wasnt a good thing. a shirt with a girls naked chest and over her boobies are glasses and some dudes eyes
-
found this wizard hat once that looked pretty much like this (http://images.windycitynovelties.com/prodimages/6894_thumb.jpg)
they had no idea how it got there so they gave it to me for 25 cents. i also found this slayer shirt from their 1984 tour that i gave to my buddy for his birthday which is now his favorite shirt. kensington market in toronto is pretty much just a neighborhood sized thrift store except there's too many god damn hippies and schizos there and not enough single chain smoking moms like a real thrift store. bummer.
-

ducktape it to the front of my car. DUH!
it's an antique wooden one. When people ask me who it belonged to, i say it used to be owned by Amelia Earhart.
-
One of my best finds ever - Wu Tang W t shirt with Cash rules everything around me on the back. A Krew Kiss rip off t shirt with the original riders names on the back, forgot Trainwreck was on of the first dudes.
-

I am just poor not a hipster or hippie.

You're a bigger hippie than wavy gravy.

i got a fixed gear bike, a poloroid camera, a cellar door, a broken social scene album, some fingerpaints, a peacoat, and a gigantic sign that says im a fucking scene piece of shit dye my hair gay colours tattoo and pierce my dickhole shut, also got new kids on the block poster, madonna action figure, power rangers dvdz, guy what else!?!? bill nye pc game?
hahaha!
In England we call them Charity shops, because they are al run by charities like Oxfam, British Heart Foundation, Marie Curie Cancer Care etc and a percentage of what you spend goes directly to those charities.
I spend hours and hours looking through the cassette tapes. Its my favorite hobby after doing stinking frontside rocks. I've also bought some utterly disgusting shirts over the years as well as Roxy Music's first album on mint vinyl, loads of classical music and some ridiculous sci-fi novels. I may have to scan in the front covers of some of the best ones. Some trendy fuck-head will doubtless come over this one called "Zardoz". Oh and I frame all my artwork in the frames of abysmal old shitstain paintings.
From the sound of this thread, the Canadian and American "thrift stores" have a lot more variety than we get over here, although a quick glance around my room reminds me of the foot tall three stick silver plated candelabra I bought this year. Also my girlfriend's got a fucking amazing plant pot shaped like the head of an Asian boy with a turban on. Its twice the size of her own head, porcelain and his face is crudely painted shiny pitch black. Any flowers growing out of that thing look so rad I could cum.
-
i bought the roxy music album and thought it sucked bad
You know, that's the funny thing about "taste", it doesn't really work if everyone's is the same.
-
A dozen flannels, all my pants (half of which are women's, since they usually fit and stretch better), a wolf shirt, blue canvas era knockoffs, that's about it.
-
You're a bigger hippie than wavy gravy.
Seeing as you don't know a thing about me you like to assume a lot.

same... T-Shirt that said, "If The Fetus You Saved Turned Out To Be A Homosexual, Would You Fight For Its Rights?" ($1.50)
And, then there was like a whole box of tie-dye T-Shirts for $0.10 per each one. But, I guess I didn't get any because they were used. I don't really mind getting used stuff like video games and stuff like that, but not clothes. I guess it's because my mom never let me get any tight shit from Goodwill when I was younger.
-
today i got a 2pac shirt, an eazy-e shirt, a black label shirt, an old hundreds shirt, and a three 6 mafia cd
all for 11 bucks.
most of the found items will be given as gifts.
-
I got Street Cinema and that Expedition promo with Alphonzo Rawls and Ryan Gallant for $2 this summer.
-
About 7 years ago I found one of these shirts: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-MOTLEY-CRUE-1985-TOUR-T-Shirt-concert-tee-80s-S_W0QQitemZ220340786583QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Unisex_T_Shirts?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-MOTLEY-CRUE-1985-TOUR-T-Shirt-concert-tee-80s-S_W0QQitemZ220340786583QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Unisex_T_Shirts?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116)
Except the one I have is the baseball shirt style. Sometimes in periods of financial stress I consider selling it. I think it cost two dollars. I used to go to Value Village or this church thrift store at least once every week, but I already have too many clothes at this point and lack the patience to sift through all that crap. Still, lots of good deals to be found at those places, but in my current state of laziness I prefer Ebay.
-
The thrift stores in my area are all way too picked over..
Garage Sales are where it's at. My kids and I go a few times a month in the spring/summer/fall. I've gotten so much stuff it's crazy. Tools, poster, clothes, vintage leather jackets, toys, skateboards, books, furniture... half the shit I own came form a garage sale. You have to go to the rich suburbs though. Never Pay full price!
Recently I got the old drinking glasses that Burger King used to give away when the original star wars movie came out for $5.
-
I snagged a few billy joel vinyl albums for my dad here recently. (glass houses and songs in the attic, if my memory is correct). Plus hella random shirts and trucker hats that most are given away as gifts. I saw a Pantera shirt with the e and a mixed up. wish i bought it
-
I'm more into the Flea Market. All the produce is way fresher and higher quality than the grocery store adn super cheap. They also have awesome varieties of falovored pistachios.

Bootled Slayer "Show No Mercy" MIsfits (Crimson Skull" and Social Distortion (for my gf) t-shirts 3 for $10

yeah, pros do that a lot.
The Buffalo Exhange on Valencia St. here in San Francisco always has size 13 Nike SB's - i've seen Brian Anderson around the neighborhood a bunch of times. The other week, they had a shitload of size 9 Supras.

Right or wrong, I'd take it as a compliment. Wavy Gravy was a pretty kooky dude, but it was a pretty cool kookiness and Wavy was/is fucking rad. I picked up his book "SOMETHING GOOD FOR A CHANGE, Random Notes on Peace Through Living" at a used comics/bookstore and I fucking loved it. He was the guy that announced the "Brown Acid" at Woodstock. I'm not a hippie myself, but I appreciate activists from his generation.

This is an old photo of a shirt that I bought when I was 19, but I still wear to this day... dark brown, fits like an American Apparel, soft as fuck, and it has a pretty sick illustration of a guy playing a guitar. It says "Don Francisco, The Live Concert". About five years ago I found out that Don is a Christian folk singer. I was at the park and a dude there my age was like "whoa man, you listen to Don Francisco? I love that dude's music." I told him I bought it because the art was sick, but that I'd look him up, which I never did. I don't want to ruin the shirt if the guy sucks. It's already funny because I'm not Christian, but I know too much as it is.
Over the years, I've picked up 8 or 9 17" crt monitors for $5 each (four I got at once), maybe a dozen keyboards at 50 cents a pop, and an old school SCSI card, cable, and scanner that I'll never use, I just have it. So far, all the monitors that I've ever bought there have worked, once had a scratch on it but it didn't matter... I could see the scratch on the glass but it was for a little file server, so looks didn't mean a lot. Had a good image though.

I also got a shirt that says "Junk in the trunk" with a restroom diagram-ess woman putting stuff in the trunk of a car. There's also an array of insane wildlife or native american pride shirts to be found at my local value villages.
A friend bought me a shirt for my birthday that just said in big bold letters "Eric is 40!" with a huge picture of some kid under it.
-
i bought a shirt that said wheres garey? and beneath it was a picture of a young eagle scout.
it ended up missing from my storage facility........

i mostly meant flea markets, but in the "hipper" parts of LA it isnt uncommon for people to try to buy the shirt your wearing. old metal shirts are especially sought after.
as for the avatar/sig, photoshop is a hobby of mine, and a valuable skill, plus it was raining the day i made them, so whatevs

We have swap meets where I live. I've found some cool late 60's and early 70's banana shape boards. Every now and then some early 90's shirts.
-
I got the suit I was married in, YSL never been worn. A Christian Dior sailing blazer. Bottega Veneta slip ons. I always buy leather belts when I see them. Got my wife two Mui Mui dresses, a YSL summer trench coat and Tory Burch pumps. I work in the rich part of town and these people give away good designer things.
Other than that I buy most of my jeans there and lots of random button down shirts.
-
Found a Green Jelly shirt for 1.99 apparently its worth about $100.
Already got a buyer lined up.

One time i got a broken xbox 360 for ten bucks and sold the 500gb hard drive for $50 the same day. That's all I got.
-
scooped up a dozen Kung Fu movies on VHS (The Wu Tang Shaolin joints that were reissues) and some basketball jerseys. Always looking for gear and tape decks.
-
Just have a local goodwill. I bought an entire CD booklet full of early 2000’s indie music once that came with a booklet signed by The Strokes. Flipped a pair of Gravis as well about two weeks ago and on that same trip I managed to snag a brand new pair of Cons CTS.
-
Not that into thrift stores.
But garage sales are the shit.
On Saturday I got a brand new shop vac for 5 bucks.
I also got some Van's shoes for 2 bucks a pair and I probably overpaid.
I'm still stoked on the shop vac though

geez! 200? i found one a few years ago for 15 and i ended up breaking it. bought another one on ebay for maybe 80-90 and then sold it for about 100 when i got out of film photography. i recently flipped the zoom version i found in a thrift store for 3 bucks, sold it for 30.
i still have an olympus XA-2 that I need to get rid of. im thinking that and some of my skate video collection is going to help fund the new guitar i want.

I almost did the exact same thing, but I love my XA2 too much, so I skimped and bought the Squier instead (it's actually one of the best guitars i've played though)
I'm on a hawaiian shirt phase right now, so I've picked up some awesome ones at my Goodwill. I saw a Guiness themed one with the tucan and shit yesterday but it was a size too small.
-
For sure - they're regularly $250+ in Oz. I love that little Olympus Mju. It works perfectly, is super fun to carry around and takes a beaut photo. I still hear of people picking them up for a song cause they made millions of them.

Recently found a nice fleece Timberland jacket for $10, also found a copy of Charles Bronson-Complete Discocrappy on CD, I was stoked on that.
I go pretty regularly, usually leave with a couple shirts for work, some books. Not often that I find something really cool. One time I did find a pair of brand new of MJ 3 Lakai/Chocolate collab shoes. They still had the little sticker on the insole. When I tried them on I felt a lump under the insole and when I pulled it out I found someone had stuck an e-cigarette under it. That was weird.

one of the goodwill here gets damaged box goods from target, they had a brand new PS4 for $125 a few years ago
haven't been thrifting enough lately.. i love hunting through peoples junk but my wife hates it. im slowly working in the angle of antique furniture to get her interested

Probably my best find was a banjolele from the 1930s that I got for next to nothing at a Salvation Army second hand store. A well built instrument in good shape, and with a hard case.
I also once found a really cheap Hammond spinet organ, with a built in Leslie speaker, that was cool. I had to get rid of the organ when I moved to a smaller apartment in a new town though.
There are often decent analog cameras at thrift stores and flea markets too, my favorites that I've gotten are a Pentax ME Super and a few nice lenses to go with it, an Olympus XA4, and a Meopta Flexaret II for medium format film.
