As you can notice, the Skate TAlk section has now been changed to Skate Chat. Apparently some kook called up saying he had the words Skate Talk trademarked. Insane how lame people can be these days. Hope he makes an extra buck.

The guy claims to be a skateboarder and has a few lame skate sites, one of which includes the two words "SKATE TALK" with a .com Wow. So I guess he calls up the publishers at High Speed productions (Thrasher and Slap) to stop using those two words for Slap's message boards (like it's trademarked or something). It not like Slap is making $$$ of these two words.

The words Skate Talk are not trademarked. Taking a quick second off from my "slap persona"......I am in law school and am currently working for a clothing company doing their trademark and copyright protection.
So, again, the words "Skate Talk" do not have a registered trademark and have no current trademark protection. Did he send you a cease and desist letter, or just call you and tell you that he has it trademarked? Did he give you his trademark registration number?
You can search for yourself at http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=ta681c.1.1
Call this guy back and ask him to send you copies of his trademark registration application and some sort of verification that he has paid his application fees.
Also, when did this SkateTalk start? I can almost guarantee that the Slap Boards have been around for much longer than his use of the mark. If he wanted to challenge your use, you would be able to affirmatively defend against his claims just by showing you've been using the words Skate Talk in association with the Slap boards for X-number of years.
The best thing to do would be just put Skate Talk back up on the site, and have this guy prove he has it trademarked.....which he doesn't. Buying a domain name is not the same as registering a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark office.
