Title: fun stuff to skate
Post by: Gest on August 06, 2006, 08:02:24 PM
what currently is your favorite spot or terrain to skate?

lately i've been skating a lot in the town right next to mine, columbia, missouri, and there's this big 4 story parking lot, and it's super fun to bomb at night, yellow curbs and other little things galore. me and my homies have spent the past 4 nights sessioning there

around the parking lot are a bunch of crazy hills and shit downtown, it's super fun

what about you guys?

we been skating this ledge that runs for a ways and then makes a sharp 50 or 60 degree angle as it is really the outer edge of a long planter on a local campus.  its straight because its the perfect width to do boardslide/lipslide popout tricks on but still be able to do any other kind of grind/slide on a surface like any regular old ledge.  nah'mean?  pop-out slides are mad fun.

yeah me and my friends have been going to a bunch of those plastic-parks around central jersey, they always happen to have nicely transitioned 4' miniramps.  not to mention they always have a nice cement philly step.  other that than, sayreville park to just cruise over the bumps and shit.

We got a big carpark building too, weve got a couple boxes and a flatbar stashed we drag out. It's good coz it's lit all night for night missions and never get kicked out. Plus theres this bank to wall thats sketchy but fun. Other then that just schools.

been skating this ditch spot lately, some friends built the ledge and we dragged some stuff over to make this bank. pretty fun and it isnt the typical spot.

We spend alot of time driving around looking and looking, I think were just burned out on the usual ledge, gap, bank spot. Although a good ledge is hard to find here.

Don't worry about him. He thinks that the point of the slap boards is to belittle as many people as possible over nothing. The kid clearly has temper problems (look at the way he can't stop crying about his theory that Kerry Getz ruined his main spot) and always needs to prove himself by putting down others. He doesn't really feel sorry for you, he just feels better than you, because thats what he does.

Gest- so spot on. Shitty cement parks that don't make much sense are so fun to fuck with. I saw some interview with somebody once where they were talking about it like, if the spot was built on the street and was all shitty and hard to skate it would make it more fun, so why should it be any different with a park?

slap cliche number #x

i think the only people that like skating shitty stuff are people that aren't very good, it kind of levels the playing field.

Granted, it is cliche, but I disagree with your assesment. It takes a lot more talent to do the same trick on an imperfect spot than a perfect one. Thats why people like footy of backyard pools more than bowls. Also, some people don't really care about "leveling the playing field," they are people who are out to have fun

perfect.....that and some cool weird manual pads....lately....because I've been skating again....I've been on the lookout for a nice 2sided curb to mess around on.....not just for boardslides and bluntslides...but more like stuff like nollie lip to smith to back to lip to fakie over the other side.....does anyone remember doing stuff like that?.....it's seen quite heavily in the Hokus Pokus era....so much fun.

fair enough, i'm just saying a lot of these people aren't very good.
if they don't care about being good, i'm sure that wouldn't get upset when someone points out they aren't.

double sided curbs are the shit. natas and tim gavin.

^^^yes......it's kind of sick to session a flat bar like Matt Hensley did in Hokus Pokus.....he basically murdered the Jarabek beam back then.....I had the pleasure of skating there in 1992...so much fun....I guess it's gone now from what I've heard.

I swear to god I was one second away from writing that exact same thing, except for the spelling of Drehobl, which I'm sure I also butchered.

As for what you pointed out monkey, that may be true, but at the same time, the only people I know who are conscious about who is much better or worse than them are the people inconfident about their own abilities. But then again, there is no real rule about this sort of thing. I guess I get why you hate Puleo now, though I'm still kind of confused about your avatar, its sarcastic right?

But in the end, it takes more talent to skate a wierd obstacle well than a perfect one.

The ledge at my old middle school. Its pretty chunky and next to a wall but its close by and not a bust. Otherwise I like to skate banks, wallrides, and anything unusual, or some better ledges.
