also i dont understand how anyone can be interested in venetian snares. that has got to be the worst fucking album i have ever heard in my life. the one i bought was called something like mechanical spider taking apart itself in box or something like that. it sounds like mechanical robots taking over your brain, its just a bunch, i dont see how anyone can chill and listen to that. i would cut my dick off.

Honestly I love that guy, and huge chrome cylinder box wasn't the a good 1st album to buy. He makes so much shit and they all have different things going for them, he can make something like "My Downfall" but he can still make a concept album about murdering children (Doll Doll Doll), hahaha. Listen to early stuff, he is brutal and morbid; approach it with a good sense of humor and its really fun to listen to. He is essentially kicking your ass through music, just see him live. If anybody hates him I could care less. You probably just don't get it or care to get it. whatever.

Chris Cunningham DJ/VJ set!
One can only imagine...that'll be so good.
"Atop lushly warped R&B synths, stuttering, mutated 2-step drum patterns and deep subbass that drops in and out without warning, a pitched-down vocal measuredly repeats slowmotionslowmotion. The already disorienting formula becomes even wilder midway through when the vocal is suddenly pitched up and the initial woozy pattern is fed amphetamines: slowmotionslowmotionslowmotionslowmotion, repeated until it starts to sound like slum ocean. Which is not a bad metaphor for the footwork oeuvre (an offshoot of juke), music obsessed with changing dynamics and all the manic tendencies you would expect from the children of trap music and ghetto house...
Footwork is generally dark, moody music, much of it covered in a very rustbelt type of malaise, hyperaware of battles far beyond footworking. Aside from the rhythmic innovations, its producers seem occupied with sampling the most melancholic lyrics on commercial radio. On DJ Yung Tellems We Can, a famous pop diva, now anonymous pitchbent, looped and totally warped pleads with more than a hint of melodrama: We can work this out. Footworking suddenly becomes more about shuffling through a thick crowd or sketchy nocturnal streets or any other unnerving urban si*tuation you could imagine, simultaneous stimulation and suffocation, forever rewinding that one comforting line over chameleonic beats; mind focused, feet constantly moving. Abstraction with a purpose."

Over the past two years Jamie XX has emerged from behind the shadows of his influential indie band The XX to take on several prominent DJ slots and remixes of artists like Adele and Gil Scott-Heron. There's been a dearth of original material from Smith, however. That's finally remedied by the long-delayed release of "Far Nearer" on Numbers, a well-rinsed 2010 dubplate to say the least.
To me, though, it's a bloodless, funkless, grooveless and completely sexless version of the UK's current spectrum of garage-indebted dance music. A somnambulant beat and an awkwardly butchered vocal sample floats in from the fog of hesitant and blurred chords. The unnecessary and bizarre pitch-shifting?also heard on his Adele remix?feels like an awkward attempt at what producers like Burial do so easily. The track's array of steel pan drums push it over the edge from innocuous hedging to disastrous misstep, the sound of someone attempting wide-eyed anthemia and crash-landing somewhere closer to limp-wristed anaemia.
The flipside "Beat For" is comparatively less ambitious, safer in its slightly sheltered execution of pumping house chords smoothed out to a hushed murmur, but boring all the same when its plain jane beat comes in and swallows everything else. These tracks really just don't do much at all, wafting by pleasantly with all the basic touchstones of this sort of "post-dubstep"?the sound of someone ticking all the boxes.

Electronic music is disrespectful to people who work hard to learn to play instruments. Shit sucks
it truly boggles my mind that there's still people that think real music is only created with physical instruments.

I've heard this is great as well. I'm thinking about picking one up cause I'm getting sick of menu diving with the microKorg.

i used ableton for all of the drums on my record.? you can get really crazy experimenting with effect chains.? i basically layered a bunch of different sounds at different levels to get the sound i wanted (some songs had 30+ drum tracks).
that being said, i haven't touched ableton in about 2 years.? i use the octatrack for all of my drums now.? i have a folder of samples with about 80 different vintage drum machines loaded on the CF card, so i just pick sounds i like and build my tracks up from there.? when i was using ableton i thought of the drums more like a drummer, but now that i'm using a step sequencer it's made me think out of the box a bit.?
so if you can find the money, check out the octatrack or even the Machinedrum or the Analog 4.? (i'm now using the Analog 4 to add a sublayer of analog drums, and its making a big difference).? the korg monotribe is worth checking out.? the sounds are fixed, but there are a few mods you can do to open it up a bunch.? lots of friends of mine like the korg electribe series.? i think the most important thing is to find a piece of gear that has sounds that are inspiring to you.? a lot of these preset machines have terrible sounds, and that can be really discouraging when youre working on music.? the more you create and shape your own sounds, the more fun it will be, and the better it will sound.? and keep in mind, any sound can be a drum sound.? process/effect/automate the hell out of it, and you might find something really crazy and unique
keep an eye on the NAMM show in a few weeks, i think a lot of new analog stuff is coming out (new moog, korg MS 20 reissue).? i think the market is shifting to make this stuff more affordable, so its a good time to get into it

yeah i've got one. just played a show with it last night. not having presets has taught me so much more about synthesis. the features it has are ridiculous for the price. best deal out as far as analog synths go.
Awesome. let me know how it works out for you. and if you need any tips, just hit me up
