I remember playing it threw with my brother. We got to a bit near then end after you fight the nemesis. We were then just stuck in the same tiny area and couldn't get out. I must of spent about 3 hours running around the same 3 rooms trying to find a way out. I gave up in the end and never finished it.

As far as Megaman goes, the first Megaman X game's last boss was ridiculous, other than that, I disagree. Mike Tyson's punchout is impossible. My brother fixed my old NES, I've been playing Battletoads and have not managed to beat level 3 with the fucking bike.

Midnight Club 2 for the PS2.
I got stuck on the third to last level, it was an unordered race in Paris with four checkpoints around the whole city. The other vehicles would chose other routes, and when you weren't right behind another car, they wouldn't make mistakes. If you followed one, he would run both you and him off the road. I think the best I ever got was 3rd out of 6. My dad started playing the game about the time I got to two levels before this and by the time he had caught up to me, neither of us could beat the un-ordered Paris race. So after about two weeks, both of us stopped playing the stupid game.
I also think I never beat Splinter Cell for ps2, but that was only because I got bored with it at about 76% complete. I think I got a new Tony Hawk game and got bored with Tom Clancy.

Battletoads for sure
Ikaruga
1942
Dragonwarrior III
Stargate for SNES

I'm sure I will think of more.  Games seemed a lot harder for the NES and SNES for some reason.

Any game I had for the original gameboy, not because the games were tough but because I was so young and stupid that I didn't grasp the concept of 'win'. Jurassic Park being the only of which games i even remember owning for that system. In enthusiasm, I'd always run directly into the dinosaurs whenever I'd see them. Also along the lines of my prepubescent gaming retardation, my elementary school had a room full of macintosh computers that i hardly even remember, but I do remember that they had the game Oregon Trail, to which I would button-mash my way to my demise, because I thought computers were just tv's that just so happen to never play anything I liked to watch.

Battletoads. If I ever meet anyone responsible for the creation of that game I will gladly kick him between the legs.

wow the exact game that came to mind when i saw this thread. defintely one of the hardest games ever. my brother is an expert gamer and he couildnt even get past this 1 part using save states. but he has definitely passed the hoverbike level, but only because he used save states.

This gets frustrating so I always turn it off.

my brother has beat this game but I have definitley not. Fuck that snowspeeder level was difficult to get the cables around the ATATs. so much easeir when shadows came out for N64!!!

this one was hell to beat

Is this the "Hard" mode? I remember the last boss being link's shadow. I have defintiley beaten this game within the past 2 years and my brother and I beat this when he was like 12. it is actually a much easier game than the first zelda if you ask me, but thats just because its so much harder to knwo where you are supposed to be going in zelda 1.

As far as Megaman goes, the first Megaman X game's last boss was ridiculous, other than that, I disagree. Mike Tyson's punchout is impossible. My brother fixed my old NES, I've been playing Battletoads and have not managed to beat level 3 with the fucking bike.

mega man X 1 was the easiest one they only got harder from there on out. the actual mike tyson boss would be pretty hard to beat without save states, but I have beaten it using them. you jsut have to learn the patterns, the 2nd puinchout for SNES was pretty difficult once you got to the end too but not as random as the OG one

that being said i dont think there has ever been a more difficult game released than Castle of Shikigami III for wii

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQZuidKexBQ&feature=related

completely fucking ridiculous

another tough one is ninja gaiden 1. It only gets hard once you get to the last area. You make it all the way to the last boss and then if you die it sets you back sooo fucking far. and there is this one part with Boba Fett's and they FUCK YOU UP.

metroid 1 is pretty fucking difficult, espeically since I beat that game in 93/94 before I had internet. I tried playing it again and it is so confusing, I would NEVER have the patience to play through that game again. beating that game was definitely one of the highlights of my gaming career.

also beating street fighter 3 on the hardest difficulty is pretty damn hard, but only the last boss. you have to dedicate years to be able to beat somethign like that, at first i didnt want to consider it but now i realize it is like the wallenburg of street fighter games, for someone who hasnt trained for years on that game, it wuold be frustrating as fuck, unattainable. the dude heals himself when he is almost dead half the time.

METAL GEAR 1
that game has got to be impossible. just because again you have no idea where you are supposedd to be going (the horrible translation doesnt help) and also the enemies are just sooo fucking tough. beat with save states and walkthrough and even that was fucked.

lemmings, once you get far in that, you have got to be pretty fucking smart to be able to solve them shits.

CONTRA is a very difficult game, you pretty much have to memorize the entire game to beat it

paper boy that game was fucking hard and it sucked!

at first i thought you meant Shadowrun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_(SNES))

that game is pretty fucking tough too i could only ever get thorugh it with a walkthrough. super fun RPG though, mega slept on.

i don't think i ever made it past colorado.  this is the same reason why i never beat http://www.segagagadomain.com/megadrive3/thesupshinobi2-cover.jpg

until recently shinobi ii was just faint childhood memory of an awesome soundtrack and a magic ninja.  then my brother bought it for his wii and the whole thing came rushing back to me.  now that i'm older and know what i'm doing, you better believe i'm gonna beat it now.  the game's a classic if i ever played one

When I was a kid I had a friend named Jeremy that was a liar.  He moved to Fort Myers Florida after sixth grade.  A few years later he returned to visit his grandparents.  He told us that....he was a model now....he blew up a bank while trying to rob it....he beat up Vanilla Ice...and the biggest lie of all...he beat Friday the 13th on NES.

well it is mcuh easier if you use save states... it is bascially cheating if you dont know i mean by that. it allows you to save the game anywhere you want so you just pause the game before a hard part and if you die you just load it up again, trhen save again once you finally beat it. also it allows you to just put down the game at any spot so if youo have to go to work or whatever you arent fucked.

so i got to the big room with the "when dinosaurs rulle the world" banner and then what? what should you fucking do? you are stuck!!

Haha I know this one! There are those two raptors and for some reason they're really strong, but if you throw a few of the red grenades at the bottom of the skeletons then you win. It is one of the most regular game endings though, even as an 11 year old I thought so.

I have only owned three game systems, Genesis, PS I and PS II. The Genesis is the only on I still have and it still runs fine! It's at least 16 years old now, and I just beat this game today:

Here are some games I remember being fucking impossible though:

I don't think I even got past the second level, for how strong robocop was in the movies, he was a weak bitch in this game.

Has anyone here played this? The only thing harder than beating this game is finding the words to describe how regular the game is. Best thing about it is that every sound effect in the game is the same guy making noises with his mouth.

I couldn't get past level 4 when I was a kid and ended up trading it, but last year found it at a used game store and beat it on two player with my roommate. A shocking and emotional moment in my life.

Good mentions in here. Anybody that's beaten Friday the 13th for Nintendo without like using the ROM save states - you're good people (I'm not).

I'm going to say this game is along the lines of Kid Chameleon, unbeatable.

In fact, I don't think it fucking ends. It might just be one of those games that recycles levels forever. I played this thing for a week and a half straight as a pup - pausing to sleep and go outside. I came home one day after a thunder storm to find out the power went out and my game reset. That's when I gave up finishing anything in my life.

American Gladiators for SNES is probably the most confusing and difficult game ever made.  In the first level it lets you run, jump and spasm in any direction and when time runs out you lose.  then in the second level you have to avoid these flying balls, which is easy.  the hard part is throwing them back, for which there doesn't seem be any control for.  the game is based on a "best of three" series and so this is as far as you can go unless you win which probably wont happen so yep, worst game ever.
