Is it true that the bigger and heavier you get you have to upgrade in wheel size? I've been told that alot even when I started skating. I'm 6'4 and 203 pounds and I ride 52's or 53's and I do get problems sometimes but the thing that gets me is that James Hardy is 6'3 (?) and is around my weight area and he rides 51's with no problem. So is wheel size a personal choice or do you have to get it bigger when you get older? Sorry for this lame topic.

I think the bigger you are, the wider deck you should ride.
-
Wheel choice is probably dependent on personal preference and what you ride most often.
Bigger wheels = more speed, especially on rougher surfaces and/or transition
They kind of help if you're heavy and/or don't want to push a lot, but all that extra pushing might help you drop some pounds.

Ride whatever you want to. Im 6'2" and 215 and I ride 51s. Go with what you think is best.

good god this is a dumb question

i think it just seems like you should ride bigger wheels because most of the fat asses just ride tranny, and claim to be more into "cruising and skating fast" when in reality they just cant get off the ground anymore and would break something if they fell.

sounds like me, exept the tranny.
damn all these years really took its toll on my shipwreck of a body

Definitely bigger board, it just looks stupid otherwise. I'm 200lbs, 6"2 and ride 53's - so I don't know about the wheel size really making a difference.
Probably just ride whatever wheels you want!

150 pound on 58mm ah

IMHO, if you're a heavy dude, you should ride high trucks with riser pads and smaller wheels to reduce the amount of wheel bite since wheel bite makes you bails tricks that you could have rolled away from.

Ironically all my hardest falls over the years have been transition skating.

Me too to be honest... Busted my ass yesterday skating a little bullshit transition... Like a 3 or 4 ft quarterpipe hip... Caught my back truck coming in on a bs nosegrind and fell straight to flat on my shoulder.
