Price point of $85? The shoe looks nice and basic for skating...no idea how they're justifying that price tag.

Omar;s cost $85 as well, but these look way better. All the technology I guess, justifies a $85 price tag

I'm guessing there's some hidden technological features in there justifying the price, which could go way up if they start releasing super limited collab versions later.

At least they don't like like super minimalist vulcanized shoes or crosstrainers, although I was hoping Koston would have tried to incorporate some design elements from non-skate Nikes considering he collects shoes.

I'll wait for the weartested review before I consider buying.

No toe stitching at all?
On that black and white pair it looks like there's stitching similar to the bruin up on the toebox.

Is the toe gazelle-like?  Or straighter?  Kinda hard to see.

Man....he didn't go tech at all.

They actually just remind me of the Lakai Pico that was supposed to be his shoe.

But man...I got to get a pair of Air Kostons!

they definetly dont look like no 85 dollars.
and is it jsut me, or do they look like bruins?
Title: Re: Eric Koston SB pro model
Post by: able on September 15, 2010, 05:27:41 PM
I was kind of expecting it to have an air pocket.
If anyone could bring that style back, it'd be Koston.
Not to mention it would make the Koston's stand out
amongst all the other swoosh branded shoes.

but I'll end up buying it anyways

I've seen the sample in person, so much technical craziness involved with this shoe. There is aesthetic stitching on the toe similar to a gazelle/bruin but it isn't for a panel. There is a lot going on that you can't really see,so i would reserve your judgment until it's in your hand.Really light minimal cupsole thats insanely flexible and grippy.Apparently koston has been at nike hq every week just trying everything out, really hands on.

No one really makes shoes in the USA anymore, I guess New Balance, and a couple few. I don't remember which ones though.

Me too!

This is how his pro model should've looked like. I made this when I first heard that Koston was on Nike. A bad shop, I know. But you get the idea.

damn Tate, you respond quick! thanks for the heads up. i thought this shoe was mad ugly at first, but i think i'm actually diggin' these blue colorways with the black soles. first they put out a Ryu dunk and now an Akuma P-Rod. that's pretty sick. are all the PR4's gonna start @ $85?

thanks for the info. this shoe looks ok in darker colorways with a black sole. slightly reminds me of that airwalk inspired chrome ball dunk high that came out not too long ago (mainly the outersole.)  the plastic thing on the side/back looked weird to me at first, but i've gotten used to it. how do you think it'll compare to a Salazar, performance wise & how you feel about them overall, Tate?

it would be so awesome if eric would just put out a simple, cheap shoe. you know, like  a non(or small)-profit-shoe for him. i mean, he is on nike now, in street league, boardsales and other stuff are sure to keep the paychecks coming and all.

lisa sure has gotten enough braces by now.

Post by: spare change on September 16, 2010, 07:26:45 AM
I would think someone like koston who has been heavily into designing shoes over the years and has been an avid collector would be into doing something unique. He did the semi crappy lakai select already, his colorway of the dunk incorporated some new aspects like a softer durometer sole and heel cups.Skateboarding has enough low end price point shoes.Nike wants to explore the technical aspect or skate footwear and they have the resources to do it right. Not everyone wants a cardboard $39.99 flimsy shoe.I'm not a nike "fan" but I'm curious to see what they come up with.

basically its an FP with a lunar insole, suede and a skyposite looking swoosh that the prod 4s have. it has tpu injected into the toecap for  durability like the salazar. the lunar insole is some nasa shit that absorbs shock really good and gives you really good boardfeel and grip taken from nike running. the upper is basically the FP which is the presto which is kinda like flywire so the upper is really snug. the laceholes are set higher up so the laces dont get blown out and then I guess they put a blanket o suede over it so people dont notice anything and it looks like a normal shoe and they put fake stitches on the toe for aesthetics like in the salazar. its 85 because of how long itll supposedly last.

I know they aren't the best pics, but usually samples pics like in the catalogs are the final production pair. It's a long way till June. So a lot of things can change with the shoe.

The Nike Dunk Custom Series Highs and Lows he crafted with a special outsole compound offered a significant upgrade, so when we scooped you last week on Eric Koston?s upcoming Nike SB signature, you knew it?d be unique.  The Nike SB Zoom Eric Koston One has a sleek, low-profile look somewhere in between the Zoom Bruin SB and Paul Rodriguez? new P-Rod 4, with a splash of the retired Zoom FC thrown in for good measure.  Its upper mostly comprised of one piece of suede, the Zoom Koston One features a two-piece outsole that hides what might be the shoe?s most important feature.  The Zoom Eric Koston One?s insole is unlike anything we?ve seen from the typically-flat skate shoe market, offering a highly cushioned LunarLon heel cup that resembles an olympic weightlifter?s shoe at profile.  Check out more shots after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for updates on Eric Koston?s first Nike SB sig shoe.  via SparkTheLa

That profile pic of the blue one makes the Kostons look way beefier then they are. The bottom ones look slimmy as fuck.

And his colorways are kind of odd so far. Blue one straight matches the Golden State Warriors jersey. I am sure a Laker colorway is in the works.

pretty much but with nike tech in it.  im a little puzzled why they referenced olympic weightlifters. the use of it was most likely inspired by kobes, hyperdunks or federers tennis shoe.

If they lost the stitch in the front they would look better, still a sick looking shoe though. I don't know if anyone has answered it, but what's the weight of the shoe? I'm assuming they'll be super light.

With thoughts like that I might as well review the Dylans.

If I find the black ones on sale I'll get them, or hopefully I could get them as a gift.

In the UK, $85 works out at roughly £52 (using the little convertor on my computer), that's a totally average price for skate shoes over here. It sucks. For comparison, checking the site of my local shop:

Manchester Select: £49.95 ($80.60)
Half-Cabs: £57.95 ($93.50)
Eras: £44.95 ($72.50)
Janoskis: £59.95 ($96.70)
Pappalardos: £59.95 ($96.70)

I've never seen anybody skating in them. I can only afford to buy the more expensive stuff for chilling in at first and operate a weird sliding-scale where they gradually work their way down to becoming skating shoes over a long period of time. I'll only ever skate a pair straight out the box if I got them cheap somewhere, fuck skating in £60 shoes. I imagine that's how a lot of euro folk deal with the crazy prices.

oh, shit's expensive, i know, but the average wage in australia is higher than in the US. right now the us/aud ratio is almost 1:1, anyone with half a brain is buying their shit online from us stores and shipping to australia. even with shipping shit is cheaper.

on the "it's all relative" note though, let's take the vans eras for example. when you factor in higher wages etc in australia, it's the equivilent of an american paying probably $60 for them (they're about $40 in the US). although they are more expensive, they're not THAT much more expensive when you get down to it.

i'll be going home to melbourne to see fam at xmas and the exchange rate is going to kill me. an aussie coming out here is living like a king right now though.

the thing that makes me the happiest is that koston is the greatest street skater, probably ever. And he seems genuinely humbled and grateful to be where he is at and to have had the opportunities he has.
