So apparently my little bro has been brainwashed by these little 12 year olds down the street that getting shop boards is considered a "really poserish (???)" thing to do. I tell him just to ignore those clowns. I encourage him to get them. Different shop board vary in size and shape. But our local shop is Active since we moved back into our old house like 3 days ago and they are great. But I want to get your opinion. Shop boards - Fuck yeah or fuck that.
-
It supports the shops, so it's pretty good, I would say. No, it's not exactly supporting the bigger companies, but fuck it, skatin' on a budget!
Fuck those kids. They're 12, they probably ride neon Destructos and Mike Mo decks because "He can TRIPLE KICKFLIP :o!".
-
shops tend to generally make a higher profit off of their own shop decks than the pro shit they sell. So as long as you care about keeping the lights on at your local shop, it's okay in my book.
-
stop pretending it's your brother
-
No shop board for me, I would rather just wait until i had to the cash for something i want.
-
i tend to buy brand boards over shop boards just because my local shop only has one graphic and ive skated it out sooo many times, however those kids are idiots...
if anything buying a shop board is the best thing you can do, skate shops are meant to be a give and take situation where they support the skate community by holding contests and jams and signings and all that jazz, and in return we help keep the shop alive by buying their products.
it is better for your skate community to buy a shop board than to get a branded board on sale for the same price
-
I rather support local smaller brands than buy a shop board
-
kids are idiots...
moral of the story

if youre broke, then get a shop deck from an independant shop... But dude said his local shop was active right? Fuck that... They dont need the money.

I was about to say that.
If it is an independent shop, sweet support them!
But active sells more of their decks than most smaller board companies.

HAHAHAHA.
i'm down for shop decks....if the shop is rad.
-
in HK we only have like 2 skateshops and the shop decks are cool as fuck, so yes it is totally okay to buy them as long as they arent like IDK, zumiez shop decks(if they even make them).
-
I'm riding a shop board right now. The store's owned by some friends, all skaters and they're one of the 2 only "core" skateshops I know around here. I'm glad I can support them, especially if supporting them means me buying €24 boards
-
Skateboarding is getting too political preachy lately, support who and what you want. It's a board, grip it and rip it.
-
active gets their shop boards made in china.
they might charge less for them but thats because you're getting a lesser quality product.
i suggest getting a shop board that you know is made in the US or canada
USA/canada wood > china wood

This.
I buy shop boards (Index) cuz they have the best shapes. It feels good to skate some local wood.
-
I buy pro/team decks from companies I want to support, but I won't hate on a kid who is scraping together his money & buying a shop deck just to keep a board under his feet.

moral of the story
if the shop is cool , then why the fuck not .
-
1. pro model
then
2. logo model
then
3. local company
then
4. shop board
Never blank boards.
I basically cycle between 1 and 2.
-
I remember skating active boards in 03-05? and their wood was good. I haven't skated them since my friends got off dey team.
-
The only shop i buy from is Bill's Wheels and I could be wrong but i think bills decks are made at NHS so i guess its like skating a creature or santa cruz and thats pretty much all I buy..
-
The difference here is about 40 dollars. 70 vs 110 so shop board

I love Index boards. But I only buy them when I am saving money. Plus they help put on things for the community, which is always sick.
