Title: Biggest pet peeves while skating.
Post by: BraveUlysses on March 13, 2011, 06:30:32 AM
I am not sure if this is a topic already but what are your biggest pet peeves while skating?. One of mine is when I am trying a trick and I look up and see a car rolling directly beside me. Another is hitting rocks, the sound alone just pisses me off. What are some of yours?

- cars that don't know what they're doing.. everything goes smoothly if you're a semi-decent driver
- misguided pop shuvits to the kneecap
- dirty grip

random people watching me skate would have to be my number one pet peeve. theres a school i skate at that no one really knows about and its like my own private spot. I go there when i want to skate by myself learn stupid goofy tricks or hell some times bust a few caspers. only problem is a lot of families ride their bikes through it and i swear everyone of them has to stop and watch me skate for a few minutes. I am not a fucking performing monkey!

ya shit in my pockets usually fucks with my head to. and i absolutely hate when i'm trying a trick at a park, or anywhere for that matter, and a dude sees what i'm trying and then lands it right behind me. i understand that my bag is mostly basics so there is gonna be some overlap. but when dude has done the last 4 moves i just tried, i may quote dangerfield and shut down. fuck little pedros man, it drives me nuts.

hair in my face

this, when in my normal stance its fine coz my hair flows to the right but fakie and switch i cant see anything, also my hair grows too fast.

little tiny pebbles
people who get in your way just to be a dick/on purpose
giant cracks in between paving slabs
sun in my eyes
when im sore and achey before the start of a session
wake up look out the window and its a beautifull day, get dressed, get all my shit together, grab my board, step outside and THEN it starts raining
if im skating the park-kids on scooters/running arround/standing on banks/sitting on ledges etc.
constantly telling kids to stop waxing the fucking floor, i mean seriously where do they get this shit?
parents who let their kids run around the skatepark and get all pissy when i tell them to have some common sense
mysteriously having dirt on your board when youve been no-where near dirt all day

stuff in my pocket (doesnt make street skating easier though), people on the streets that are simply waiting for you to fall, skating in a unknown park alone with poeple that are familiar with that place.

hell yeah, i dont have a lot of confidence while skating.

+1 loose change + 270 degree obtuse angle sock drama. can't believe i missed those.

let's add ipod headphone cords to the mix too. I love my music, but that had to stop. i'd rather skate with a boombox on my shoulders or bluetooth headset on.

also, i don't so much get offended by interested randoms watching me skate than other skaters watching me skate. at least walk up and say hi or something.. you know what it's like.

I hate things in my pocket.
Hair in my face. Ive had long hair for the last 6 years, and I have to skate with a beanie even in summer, but Im too much of a pussy to cut that shit.
If I dont land my first kickflip and switchflip first try, my day is ruined, and Im probably not doying flip tricks or playing games of skate the whole session.

Hitting a bump or pebble when setting up for a trick.

My park is surrounded by paths so there is a constant flow of people walking past. You get used to it, but every five or ten minutes there is an old person that just stands still staring with a confused look on their face.

Like someone else said, other skaters who don't skate and just sit there watching. This happened today. I was skating the park alone and this kid who I have seen once before turned up on his own. I said whats up to him but he still sat there on the bench for ten mins.

And these two for sure.

-bailing simple flatground tricks
-trucks will never feel right

Skateparks, because of the little kids who inevitably/constantly get in the way at skateparks.  We all have to start somewhere, but its this magic place known as 'the driveway.'

Skating in anything with long sleeves totally fucks with my mind.

Usually when I'm at the park, if I'm not trying a trick, I'm watching other people.  I'd say most others do the same.

So maybe I beam unintentionally, but whether I land or bail, it's a habit to look around and see if a) anyone's coming my way, or b) another trick is about to go down.

Too much wax.

This! There are park ledges around here that are practically unskateable they're so slippery. These kids need to give the wax a rest - especially on metal-edged ledges fer chrissake...

I'm fine with wax, but the point of it is not to have so much wax that grinding feels like a fucking manual.

Heh, I actually prefer overwaxed stuff, I dont care if its metal, or concrete or whatever, I like if it slides and grinds fast.

Whenever a kid or something says to do a kickflip I always oblige because if I were a kid I'd feel bummed if I asked somebody to do one and they blew me off.  But whenever I do one for a kid it always ends up being the shittiest mobbed kickflip ever, even though my kickflips are pretty good if I do say so myself.

It depends how old or young the person is, if its a kid ill just do one, but if its a older person i just tell them i dont skate.

spit - who likes spit all over their grip?   no one, so why not spit where no one is going to skate?

wind -  no point in skating.

too much wax - wax your board/trucks, its not my fault you can't grind or slide.

conversing - i came to skate not chat.  get on aim/twitter/bbm/fb and chat away.

This.

My park is a massive shithole. Theres spit, bits of old food/candy and bird shit all over the place. Every session I get something new stuck to my grip. Finished today with massive pigeon shit  across the nose and a chewed up mint smeared into the middle.

*When other people want to skate my board, i can't stand it, and it seems like it'a always someone who dosent skate.

*When I'm skating with headphones on and people try to talk to me.

*Showing up at the park and their are TONS of 5-10 year olds in the way.

*When i'm skating a ledge/box and it slides perfectly, and then i see someone wax the fuck out of it.

*Shinners

*Skating around a bunch of people

*About to land a trick, but i have to wait for some little kid trying something he's never gonna land.

*Watching little kids skate in spandex jeans, not really a peeve, just hilarious.

nope, i even saw a kid wax the wierdest place the other day... the landing off a ledge, i still dont understand why youd wax there especially as he was just going for boardslide... also i did some tricks on the ledge and if youve got enuff speed to actually do anything you "gap over" the was anyway, strange.

also something quite funny, the other day there were loooads of people skating the park and at one point the same kid was about to wax the top of the manual pad  ??? in unison the whole park screamed "NOOOOOOOOO" at him, he looked up and almost shat himself at 30-40 people shouting at him

whoa, that definitely isn't okay. my local park is pretty slippery to begin with, so maybe that's why i've never witnessed this phenomenon myself. the closest thing i've seen to that is when kids wax the side of the mini ramp, cause there's a one inch high drop down off the mini, so kids will wax it to learn 50-50s and stuff. however once they've got the basics down they'll go ahead and wax the top of the 'ledge' too (like where you would wax a normal ledge to lipslide and stuff). so now when you're skating the mini, you have to avoid the sides of the ramp or you slide out and die. the only advantage of this is that you can do slappies for dayzzzzzzz but it's definitely not worth it.

i think the problem might be caused by there bieng a sudden increase in wax adverts over the last few years, making kids think that wax is needed to skate everywhere, even flatground.

this kid (yes the same one as before) waxed a bit of floor because he couldnt rully rotate his 180's so he thought the wax would help  ???

too much wax is a big one, especially from rollerbladers. Its bad enough on ledges, but what the hell are they thinking waxing up the LANDING to a gap!?

[close]

wait, people actually do that? i thought that was a joke?

no joke. a park near me has a gap equivalent to your average 5 stair. rollerbladers waxed up the entire landing, they would jump the gap and land sideways and slide for a few metres and then go to normal. it was fucking stupid. any skater trying that gap would get fucked up as the wax was caked on so fucking thick. it was slippery like ice. I still remember spending way too much time scraping it all off. I didn't want to skate the gap at the time but i didn't want to see some random little kid completely work themselves because of some stupid rollerbladers.

oh another pet peeve is RC cars at skate parks. really? thats the best place you can think to bring it? watch me mess up a trick and land on it.

Sudden noises while rolling up to an obstacle. Someone suddenly whistling or yelling in the background. It doesn't even need to be very loud to make me lose all focus

Mess up? Anytime someone shows up at the park with one of those, we intentionally try to land on it.

important things falling out of chino pockets, baseball hat flying off in the wind during a hill bomb, top lace loop rip and subsequent floppy knot, vulcanized shoe sidewall delamination, watching your skateboard speed away from you hit a solid object nose-first, hitting rocks/large cracks while skating past people on a sidewalk and being thrown to the ground in front of them

Nope. I used to skate this park, it had a ramp zone and a flatground zone with some boxes and rails. Ramps were occupied by bikers, also I can't do nothing on tranny so that didn't bother me. Ground was pretty smooth and clean. It was also prohibited to smoke in the park, so the smokers had to go outside the park to have a cigarette. No lurkers, no kids, didn't notice any random noises, although the park was located next to a busy street. By my standards it was a quite good place to skate. Now the flatground part is transformed into a streetball courts. :(

Skating around with people that can't keep up.

Rollerbladers are not really a problem in my area, but people will wax the fuck out of everything, then not skate it.

Waxed up mini ramps.

Dumb 15 year old hollister kids just showing up to the park and just standing there in the way.

People who try and play you in skate just because they think they can beat you and show off.

Moms bringing their 3 year olds to the park and letting them play on the ramps.

Old people who care way too much about everything.

Friends having no motivation to leave our little area and explore more.

When little kids think that the park is exclusively theirs and are just all around rude as fuck. When I was younger, I was scared to death of the older guys. What happened to that fear?
Not having a belt/it breaking during a session. I don't want my pants sagging below my ass every time I pop a trick.

Plus, we older guys are way too nice. In the old days, the older dudes would smack you if you got in the way. Now, you try that & the kid's mom is gonna get out of the minivan where she's parked, reading US magazine, and slap a lawsuit on your ass.

Because I'm older, I often get asked "do you have kids?" My answer is always the same: "Hell no, I fucking hate kids." Always gets a laugh because they think I'm joking...

You've got that right. Not too long ago, my buddy and I were skating the box at our park, on a pretty damn busy day, and some kid just takes it upon himself to sit down and take a load off right on the box. So of course, the two of us, amongst others, are trying to get this kid to move, and the little fucker actually stood up, walked up to us and started tough talking us about "not owning the park." What kind of fucking kid does that to people twice his age?! What kind of fucking attitude is that?!

The little kids at my park are just the worst.

Every time I ran and jumped on my board to skate this manual pad he always had some new shit to say. I didnt want to be an asshole so I would come back and listen to what he had to say instead of trying my trick. After that we met his friend up at Arby's and they were talking the fuck outta me while I was trying to 3 flip this gap. In between tries the dude would tell me to watch his pressure flip attempts and told me about how he had them every try the other day and was offering me curly fries, it was so hard to focus.

Like they land on the board then jump off? I'm probably the most lax dude on what "counts" in a game of skate, but come on, you gotta ride away. I'm not one for having "rules," but there are some unwritten guidelines that people should follow.

That's it basically. They land on the board then jump off automatically. I usually just go with it if the kid is a lot younger than me.

I just meant it as in nobody will try anything remotely new unless it's on a manual pad/ledge or there's a camera. And getting broke off just to do it is way better than just saying "No, nobody is going to see it so there's no point."
Title: Re: Biggest pet peeves while skating.

That's how you get better skating manual pads and ledges. and in all honestly if there's a chance you would get broke off, why not document it? I highly doubt people are skating 12+ stairs/rails without documenting it, unless it's a warm up tricks.
Title: Re: Biggest pet peeves while skating.

You're only going to get better at what you practice. If all you do is skate pads and ledges all you're going to know how to do is skate pads and ledges. I'm not saying go completely ape and throw yourself down huge sets of stairs but don't just limit yourself to little things because nobody is going to see it. Skate to progress, not to show off.

I'm not saying to skate just the gnarliest thing possible, I'm talking about pushing your limit on something that might possibly injure you. Even if you suck and all you can do is back 180 a 6 or a shitty little grass gap, just try for that extra step or that next bigger gap. Don't just say "Oh there's no camera so i'm not going to try anything that I might not be able to get." Around here nothing new ever happened because people only wanted to try if there was proof that they did it on film. Just do it just to get better.

not that these have anything to do with skating but...

people who invade my personal space.  i was on the subway the other day, seats all around me...why you posting up right next to me asshole!

people who eat on the subway.  why do i have to be subjected to the smell of your nasty food?  the worst is when they have french fries covered in ketchup and heat from the fries starts to cook the vinegar off.  the smell of hot ketchup is frickin disgusting.

most people that skate stairs don't skate big stairs everyday. They practice on small ones until it's time to film. exactly what you're friends are doing, except it sounds like they suck because they don't skate, not because they aren't trying to get broke off.

When people call out the trick they're about to not land.  Guy at the park goes off on how "this is the best switch 360 you'll ever see!  watch this, best switch 360 of all time!  right here!", then tries a heelflip on a bank and bails.

This isn't really a peeve.. but some dudes were filming on the stairs.  Buddy gets a trick, goes back up, tries something else then says "I'm just gonna try this until he gets his trick."  I thought it was an awkward thing to say.

I try to be quiet though, the last thing I want to do is be a prick to another skater who I know nothing about.

Having poser kids at the spot, copying everthing you're trying.

Yesterday this happened at a park, and after an hour, one of my friends said to the kid: hey you are copying us aren't you?
So the kid said: aaaaahhh (stupid fucking face) yes.

So I told em, you know it's kind of funny when everything you do get copied, it gets to be a bit anoying.....

and he literaly said: But I can't think of things for myself.

Skating in front of anyone (unless your a homie or not a judgmental prick) because i feel like people who dont skate either wanna see a kickflip, tre flip, or a banger and if you dont do any of em first try  you fail at skateboarding  and should quit right now

I hate skating at parks especially my local one because its legitimately inhabitated by assholes plus it has a closing time and helmet restricted

Finding the perfect spot but realizing the shitty runway/ runup making it impossible to skate

Kids who focus there board

Peoples ridiculous reasons for quitting skating, seriously i had a friend who was definitely one of the top 5 skaters in the town and he was a freshman at the time. The kid fucking ripped man but like a year later he became a shoe hooligan and didnt want to mess up his shoes so he quit. I shit you not if the kid still skated till he was in his twentys he could have become AM he was so good.

People who play skate and take it seriously

Condoms. It may sound ridiculous but if you go to a scummy park infested with regular kids, them buying boxes of condoms and throwing them over the park in order to make it look like they've fucked on every ramp is a daily occurrence. It's like they are claiming the spots. the deathbox? you bet. the grindbox? oh baby. The miniramp? roger that. Just today is was cumming (lol geddit) towards the miniramp and my wheels stuck on one of the fucking things (fully rolled out of course)

Also these same kids make up the 'COC' crew, which apparently means Caught on Camera, which firstly doesn't make sense because they were spraying it with their dads car paint behind the halfpipe, where the camera can't see them, and is just plain funny watching this group of boys spray 'COC' on everything. They are now fondly known as the Cock Boys.

Oh, and i shit you not, they did a little piece which looked something like this: 8==========D - YOU 8=D - ME. They really are regular.

Little rocks.
Wind, how fukken annoying it is when you get on top of the hill by rolling and your tired of your legs, then you roll down the hill to realised that you have to push and push when your going DOWNHILL.
People who hate skateboarders or try to be funny and makes movment like they are gonna put their leg on your way so you would fly but they dont or throw cigarettes on your way.
People who think that every skateboarder must land their tre's or flips with one try or they suck.
The sharp edge of worn out tail of your board.
It's too embarrassing to fall down on public. I would love to make powerslides everywhere but there is that chance that i fail.

and seeing people push mongo is creepy like where the fuck does the urge to do that come from i feel like im staring at their horrible disfigurement.

- wind

- when a song that reminds me of any of my ex bitches randomly comes on my ipod haha dont judge me

- getting something in my eyes right as i snap a trick

- trying a trick for a while, then having some one do that same trick on the same obstacle right in front of me.
*Bonus* when they do it with a flip trick added as well just for a little extra piss in my cereal

- getting snaked or skating with inefficient skaters. by that i mean people who you have to wait to stop skating before you can resume. Ex: theres this random guy who shows up at the park everynow and then to play ball on the courts next to it...then he'll always borrow some one's board and try to blunt fakie this 1/4 pipe. Only he needs to drop in, roll over the pyramid, go up the bank, do the slowest kickturn, then return the same route only to fuck up and god help you if youre within 10ft radius of him bailing. 50% chance of him landing on you. Even with perfect timing, you cant skate any obstacle without 75% chance of hitting him, and the dude is completely oblivious.

I'm skating Lakaightning cupsoles right now, and I shouldn't bitch because they were super cheap.. but what's the point of making skate shoes with literally no grip.  Brand new or worn in, your feet are slipping everywhere.  With most skate shoes the board kinda sticks to your feet, with these you either have to do the trick perfectly or bail.

People that vacation to the skatepark.
The other day the park was me and my friends then this family showed up and it was nothing but yelling and kids getting spanked.

people that bring their borderline toddler age kids to the park.
they've just learned how to run without falling down a week ago, they aren't aware of whats going on outside of whatever they're currently picking out of their noses, nevermind their immediate surroundings, and yet somehow letting them play in a concrete cage with other people traveling a high speeds on a multitude of wooden or metal modes of transit, seems like a good idea.

Do these people ever bring their kids to a football game and let them play on the field while the games going on?

Having said that, most of the time even I don't know whats going on outside of my nosepicking.

i suspect this is a unique pet peeve but here goes. for some reason my front left wheel wears out into a cone really really quickly, while the other wheels barely show any damage at all. i dont understand why and its always annoyed the hell out of me.

I'm regular footed and I got something similar on my front right wheel. I often land with too much lean on my toes and left foot which results in wheelbite and also makes the wheel faster  to wear into cone.

Same here, I switch the wheel position almost every two weeks, so they are equal.

Girlfriend wanting to watch me skate. I dont like people watching in general, however supportive they may be.

there was a kid at the park screaming "banging" whenever someone did land a trick... shit bummed me out.
he wanted to play skate with me later that day... after refusing, i decide to do him the favour since i remember beeing a kid myself.... he called a "no foot on the ground" when i did a no comply. shit felt terrible, i asked him if berra and his megaphone are around watching us. he didn't understood my point of view. when he did the re-do finger sign after some sketchy trick - i left the park.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but jacked skate shoes it is. The board can be chipped, or the wheels can be the size of a bearing, but I must have a not blown out shoe for skating. Past few weeks I have been skating in a really thrashed shoes and my feet hurt after every session.

getting little shit stuck on the grip drives me crazy, always happens within the first week of having the board and then its permanent.
smooth parks (like astoria in queens) where little pebbles that would be no problem on pavement or sidewalks pretty much become instant brakes on my wheels.

-When that "Twisted Ankle" you thought would heal up and be skateable in twenty minutes ends up being a 2 month injury break
-Super Civilians (Those people who are dicks to you, write down your license plates, call the cops all in the name of the "common good")
-Choose 3 tricks you have ON LOCK for a line, takes an hour to actually land it
-"Dude, just LAND IT!" Thanks assholes, if only I had thought of that for the last hour on this trick T_T
-People who focus their boards and don't have another lined up, especially on trips
-Scratch the last one, people who get pissed when they skate and it's NOT filming. I mean, when you film you feel like you need to get it because of the time, tape, and possibly money (If it's out of town spot) and also because you're most likely trying to film for an edit or a video. but when you're just skating a park with homies, getting butthurt just ruins the whole vibe.
-Defects within 72 hours of purchased product (Broken or extremely water-logged boards, torn shoes, flatspots, etc)
-People who talk shit but don't have anything to back their words up with. Lots of guys at my park get buzzed and yell at people to do regular tricks, make fun of you if you can't do it, and if you tell them to try it themselves, they scoff and say it's way too hard.
-When the skatepark becomes a daycare
-Get better at a trick at a skatepark in hopes to take it down a specific spot, lose that trick the day you actually go to the spot

My latest one is little kids wanting to drink my water or trying to drink it without asking me. First of all, bring your own fucking water to the park, I manage to do it every day. And secondly, who the fuck drinks out of a random bottle of water that they have no idea where its from or whats in it. I feel like putting rat poison in it next time.

A woman who looked like a borderline smackhead came up to me the other day and asked if one of her pikey kids could have some of my water. No, he fucking can't. I don't want his filthy little mouth over my bottle. Care for your own damn children.

Every time I roll away to try a trick I leave him standing there in the middle of some brutal speech about money/his girlfriend/work. Parents treating a skatepark like a playground, and not supervising their toddler children. Seriously, this is a huge problem at my local. They sit there sipping wine, having a jolly old picnic, while their kids who can barely walk cluelessly wander around the park, cutting people off, not looking where the fuck they go, while there are grown men trying to skate at top speed. It's fucking dangerous and neglectful and pisses me off. I imagine that they think a skatepark is for kids and that if anything goes wrong it's the older skaters fault. Fucking morons.

Mostly abp but here goes. spitting, standing in chewing gum then your board, kids sitting on ledges, neglectful parents leaving there sprogs to run around your park, breaking a kingpin and spending thirty minutes sorting it with the only spare one you have then breaking the other, hitting stones, rolling ankles, skating with gloves on in the winter, wasps, bmxers who never land anything but continually do circuits in the park while you stand there waiting for them to fuck off. could go on all day, maybe I should quit skating or just be a bit less grumpy

Parents treating a skatepark like a playground,
Oh my god, every park around me is like this.  There'll be three skaters, a kid on a bike, a dozen kids on scooters, and about fifty kids galavanting around the already overcrowded park.  When the skaters try to ask them to go the the park down the fucking street, they'll have a tyrade at you claiming the park is a "Multi use facility" and that they can do whatever they want. "Multi use facility" doesn't fucking stand for Playground...
I also hate the BMX kids lurking around the park, shouting at you to do tricks, and if you don't land it, they'll make every effort to get in your way the rest of your session. Some of the tricks are made up too. Yesterday I was asked to do a 'Switch double cat flip". Sieriously Bike kids, what's your problem?

People talking about how 'real' skateboarders don't learn or practice their tricks, and by doing the tricks you have all the time your not a real skateboarder. Then complaining about people who learn a trick, film it, then never do that trick again.

An older friend of mine complains about these two all the time and it seems so hypocritical.

we just 86'd a kid for that the other day. little fucker kept spitting down the rollin, and no matter how many people asked him to stop, and explained that nobody wants to slide out and slam because of a loogie at the bottom of the rollin, he just didn't get it.

tossing his board over the wall and telling him leave drove the point home, though.

Title: Re: Biggest pet peeves while skating.
Post by: marginal way on August 31, 2011, 01:17:47 PM
ten reasons why skating with headphones sucks....

1-it's isolationist.
2-people wearing headphones can't hear people coming up behind them, and inadvertently snake people constantly.
3-if you're not hearing the sounds your skateboard makes, you're missing out.
4-standing atop/in the line to an obstacle, scrolling through a playlist, looking for that "perfect track."
5-kids who go "check out this song," then hold their waxy earbud in your face.
6-99.9% of kids wearing headphones while skateboarding suck at skateboarding.
7-headphone kid sitting on the ledge, not hearing you asking him to move from across the park.
8-they're probably listening to shitty music, anyway.
9-the earbud fall out, wire juggle, reinsert move. do you kids have any idea how stupid that shit looks?
10-carroll said it best (i'm paraphrasing) "wearing headphones says, 'oh, i'm skating, i'm just not skating with you.'"
Title: Re: Biggest pet peeves while skating.

7-headphone kid sitting on the ledge, not hearing you asking him to move from across the park.

Having to deal with this every fucking time I go to the park.
There's not 1, but 2 full sized bleachers just on the other side of the fence. if you wanna sit down and take a break, do it there. Don't assume that just because you and your dumb buddies don't skate it, doesn't mean no one else wants to.

and I'm not talking about dudes that'll just take a quick sit to catch their breath or whatever, I'm speaking to the tea party picnic'ers and bike seat warmers that are content to take one try at something every 45 minutes and then just squat the rest of the time.

This beer isn't gonna sweat itself out of my body, and you're blocking up my cardio bro!

at marginal, we have 2 benches bolted to the main deck. about 5 feet from where everybody actually sits.... right on the ledge, with their feet right in the rollin line.

and when you point out the benches where they could sit and NOT be in the way, they act like you're the one who's being inconsiderate.

People that don't even acknowledge you at a park. I don't need a hug and a coffee, but returning a nod should be standard.

People listening to music with headphones while skating at a skatepark.

The rollerbladers who decided to wax a metal ledge at a skatepark last summer, which resulted in me getting the worst scar (on my leg) I've ever had.

add to that the folks that don't even acknowledge it when somebody lands something cool. i'm in the midwest visiting family right now, and at the local park here the other day, and it was like a church. kids even looked at me funny for giving a few claps every now and then.

i dont mind em when someones alone at the park but headphones when their STREET skating with a bunch of friends.

when my nose/tail get flimsy. i fucking hate that shit. i dont care about shape, barely care about deck size & i get used to shoes in like 10 minutes, but a flimsy board drives me nuts! thats the ONE thing im super picky about with my setup.

these lame ass neighborhood kids who "skate" this abandoned lot with a loading dock & DIY ledge by my house. these fuckers will come in big ass groups with ugly bitches and little kids on scooters. theyre loud as fuck and im sure its only a matter of time before someone in the neighborhood complains about it. they dont do shit either, they just push funny and flail their board in the air or at the obstacle and never get close to what theyre trying. fuckers even brought a shitty ass quarterpipe there! steep as fuck and you catch the bottom super easy. fuckin pisses me off whenever i just wanna be mellow and work on a few things then i go there and its like a fucking playground.

also groups of SKATERS sitting on this tall bike rail at one of the local parks. people barely skate it except me so they think its aiiight to sit there for 20 minutes. just cuz yall whack asses cant ollie that high doesnt mean you gotta ruin it for me!

^ I'm constantly amazed at the places people decide to sit, and how often it'll be on the thing I'm trying to skate.

It happens so often now, that I'm beginning to wonder if my subconscious LOOKS for where people are sitting, when I'm deciding what to skate next.
And if thats the case, then I might as well be sitting down myself, blocking myself from skating whatever it is.
Damn sitters...they're all up in my head...sitting.

the spots really starting to blow up. yesterday some older guy showed up while . me & one of my friends rigged one of the kids flatbars down the drop for a lil down rail. this guy, pushing mongo with a shitty element board & mall store etnies, trys to boardslide down it and racks himself while kneeing the the cinderblocks at the bottom. after like, 30 seconds he gets up and trys it again, pretty much doing the same thing except he landed on his inner thigh and didnt totally eat the pavement. fucking hilarious. its basically a skatepark now, 1-5 real skaters at any given time, then you got the pedestrians who think its the new "hang out spot" on nice days, & to top it off about 3-4 posers wholl usually show up on the weekend.

this is a lame one, but here goes.

I dont mind freestyle, its a part of skating history and it is a fun little distraction from street every now and then. a casper or two while messing around on flat doesn't hurt. but tons of kids in an effort to mimic rodney i assume, do casper 360, 540 whatever flips but never balance it. one foot on the tail the other on the ground. cheating a freestyle trick.

a lame pet peeve but whatever.

- Children on Bikes. Still never get how parents let their kids into park with such mayhem going on around them. Reminds me of sweet pea in Popeye...sometime they don't make it though.
- Parents walking around in the Park guarding their scooter kid
- Stupid kids who set up and plop 10 feet in front of you to skate the same thing and just get in your way
- Garbage at the Park when bins/cans are all around
- Kids doing fly outs in the bowl
- Underwear riding up is awful on a hot day...
- Rollerbladers giving you warning they are waxing a ledge. Skate faster you pussy. Wax in general is regular after a certain point. It's not gona make you land the trick.
- Headphones (you're just a drag on everyone around you in so many ways...it's been described here nicely..,)
- Seeing Shake Junt Grip on every young kid's board. Same goes for Altamont and Baker anything...shit is such exploitative young whack B.S.
- Longboarders at the Skate park. Go bomb a hill or just go snowboard.
- Cameras/iPods/iPads/Technology while skating. Disconnect from your technology infused stupid life for maybe an hour.

HAHA, the kids on bike thing is always bad but i get fun out of it now. theres a 2 foot high wallie wall in our park that for some reason kids always think they can just ride their bike down it, but they obviously just flip over the handlebars and slam every time. i find this hilarious, especially as it doesnt hurt them because theyre so small and just flop over the bars easily, i find it really hard not to laugh and get bad attention from their mum

also when a roller blader warns you hes gonna wax the fuck outta something, just say "doesnt matter im gonna darkslide it" then try a dark slide and remove all the wax, BING

- That one person who bathes the ledge or rail in wax.
- The cool crew who acts like they own the spot and don't even give you a simple nod.
- People who turn skating in one big math equation. "I found the problem to my trick, I have to flip the board while leaning back at a 45 degree angle and land both feet on my bolts". Something along the lines of that, It sounds incredible dumb. Which almost all of the time they never land it the next try.

I kinda do this but i never tell people my thoughts they would look at me like i'm insane. occasionally you'll see me muttering some tip to remember for next try or whinge that that try should have been the one. its my process to land a trick thats difficult for me, nothing more.

Skating with people who talk too much

YES! Shut the fuck up and skate!! Get to a skatepark or spot with like 45 minutes of sunlight left and they want to tell me about a trick someone did in some video or some irrelevant story. Small chit chat is no issue, but it's the people who want to tell this elaborate fucking story or have an indepth conversation, bleh. Most annoying shit ever, after a while I just go the rude route and skate away at the first opportunity.

i hate it when kids are at a skatepark and completely ruin the flow of everything by insisting on doing some jump down something that is in the middle of everything.  like, standing there and yelling for everyone to get out of the way so they can ollie down a fucking drop off, into where everyone would normally be skating by.  and then not land it.  repeat over and over.   i guess it's the same gripe as kids playing skate but to me that doesn't bug me as much.  it does seem regular to go to a skatepark that has all kinds of cool shit, and just want to ollie down something.  i'm old though

related to people yelling at people to get out of the way..  i hate it when people yell for you to get out of the way.  it's one thing if you are an idiot sitting on a ledge or with your feet dangling in tranny, but if someone's in an acceptable spot to be standing and you want to do a trick there, that's cool, but ask politely.  not in a tone that suggests that you own the park and suggests that you want to have your ass kicked

i hate it when kids are at a skatepark and completely ruin the flow of everything by insisting on doing some jump down something that is in the middle of everything.  like, standing there and yelling for everyone to get out of the way so they can ollie down a fucking drop off, into where everyone would normally be skating by.  and then not land it.  repeat over and over.   i guess it's the same gripe as kids playing skate but to me that doesn't bug me as much.  it does seem regular to go to a skatepark that has all kinds of cool shit, and just want to ollie down something.  i'm old though

related to people yelling at people to get out of the way..  i hate it when people yell for you to get out of the way.  it's one thing if you are an idiot sitting on a ledge or with your feet dangling in tranny, but if someone's in an acceptable spot to be standing and you want to do a trick there, that's cool, but ask politely.  not in a tone that suggests that you own the park and suggests that you want to have your ass kicked

kids doing this with scooters -_-

The people who pretend to own the skatepark.
Kids that come up to the park vibing on everyone, being obnoxious, usually spitting out rap rhymes.
The spit everywhere, every minute fuckers, I always step in that shit.
Kids sitting on the ledges.
Like when people want to have picnic on a ledge, bottles of this and that. I am the dick that grinds it and knocks it all everywhere.
The friends that you take out to skate, and then they just sit around bummed the whole time.
Friends you take out to skate, and they hate every spot you go to. SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE?!

I hate it when parents let their kids loose in a skate park and then get mad when I tell them to get out of the way
razor tail, just pisses me off
tight trucks
to much wax, anywhere

Skating with people who talk too much
[close]

I try to avoid one of my friends who talks too much while skating. The worse part is they talk about nothing. Yesterday I heard a lot of "do a hardflip do a hardflip hit the rail" from this person. They also said "do you know what a cocksucker is?" Just irrelevant stupid bullshit the whole time.

yeah that shit wears on me too. if it's a homie and it's they're trying to light a fire under you it can be motivational. if it's some goober then 'shut up and skate' comes up again. why you wasting time telling me what tricks to do? you got a board, use it.

for some people skating is more of a socializing thing than anything, i don't get it. we all love talking about it but only cause we love doing it.

random dudes giving me tips on how to do a trick that i've done many times before, but need longer for it on that day.
"you have to lean forward, and go faster"
and then, when you make it they give you a high five and have that "i told you..." look on their face.

When people get mad and throw their board. Pretty much people getting pissed off in general tends to kill the whole mood. Like you can tell there not having fun at all so why even bother? They get way to serious as if there filming for the next transworld video or something, your putting a little edit up on youtube calm down.

people filming shit...just for no reason.
I-pods
kids who talk about how they need a new board/shoes/wheels etc.
arguments over steez, that kind of shit.
people who are competitive
the suburban kids who come in to my local skatepark, and just do flatground in the bowls (people actually do this shit).
the suburban kids who bmx.

I don't think the kids who talk about getting new stuff is that big of a deal, when I say that I mean the ones who actually need it. What annoys me is when I hear people saying they need a new deck/shoes/whatever and what they're using is basically brand new, They're throwing out cash for the hell out of it.

One does not simply skate into Mordor.
