Title: independent trucks with bones bushings

You cannot deny the superior turning when these two components are combined. Show some appreciation for the worlds best trucks and bushings.

Are Indy's stock bushings that shitty?  I know that buying bushings and putting them in isn't overly expensive or time consuming.. but doing all that then breaking them in, only to have slightly better feel, seems weird.

I never even tried the stock bushings. I put the med Bones straight in.

I did have one bad session last week and switched them out for some Indy aftermarket bushings. I wanted to switch back to the Bones after literally one push.

you may not notice the difference when you put them right in but if you replace the bones bushings for something different thats when you will notice the difference

not at all.  i thought about riding bones but thought to myself, when exactly did indy stock bushings start sucking?  try never.
i know a lot of people swear by bones but once that plastic insert cracks(usually a few months), its a wrap.
if anything, i'd get the khiros with the metal inserts.

I always rode stock Indy bushing in the 90s. Started skating again and hear all this crap about the stock ones sucking now, so I got aftermarket Indy bushings. The aftermarkets work fine IMHO and fit the trucks perfectly. I kept the stocks as backups.

Don't plan to try Bones. Don't like the idea of bushings with hard plastic inserts, nor do I like the idea of have to lose a washer or forcing bushings to fit because they're not the same shape/size as the stock ones.

I never even tried the stock bushings. I put the med Bones straight in.

Its not how bad the other bushings are, its how amazing the Bones are. The way they flick back and re-centre your board makes skating feel so much better. Dropping back in at an angle and straightening out before you hit the flat, landing off ledges or just carving threw leaves down the street. Shit feels good.

Like I said, I had one bad session and blamed it on something. The Indy bushings weren't bad, they just didnt feel anywhere near as good as the Bones.

And I skate with both washers and the nut flush with the kingpin. First time I skated them I only used the top washer but I think I prefer them with both on.

I started skating about 13 years ago and being new to it I had no idea what trucks where good and what wasn't. So after trying Grind King, then Tensor, then Royal, then Krux. I stopped on Thunder, which felt amazing compared to that other crap. Well Krux are good to. But then one day I went to buy new trucks and my shop didn't have any Thunders so I decided to try Indys for the first time. I never have skated anything else. So last year I tried my first set of Bones wheels and holy shit they are the best wheels so I hear hype about the bushings and try them on my Indys and fuck its the best combo ever. They fit perfectly you don't have to smash em down and I have never cracked the core either and I am a 180lb man.

i remember way...way...back when thunder had the skull, not the lightning bolt...they were really close to indys but came w. super cush's stock which made them rad.

Indy stock bushings suck...they're super dead and my board often turns into the old boomer-board which when you kick does a perfect circle right back to me....

I like the hard bones bushings but ridden pretty loose....

then you take pictures of them, and send an email to bones.

they sent me 3 sets of bushings good for 3 sets of trucks in return.

Got some indy 149s with bones medium bushings. For both the bottom bushings the urethane is starting to muffin top over the core, but they still feel fine and it hasn't really effected the way they ride, theyre still super responsive, so I'm gonna keep skating them. Hopefully I can squeeze another month or two outta them.

I tried my friends board and he had some indys with doh doh bushings on it, man did that shit turn and feel weird. It almost felt like I was riding a completely different brand of trucks. I'm not going back.

Riding loose Indies with the soft bones, best combination. I rode the medium before and was happy with them, but i am more happy now.

On one of my cruisers i have Thunders that i got from a friend. They felt bad, so i put in some soft bones but yeah, they still suck. Gotta replace them shits.

Indy 139s and medium bones bushings. Perfect!  A set lasts about a year before they start to muffin out over the cores. I only keep the top washer in.  They're brilliant!  I've tried leaving in the stock Indy bushings, tried to break them in to see if they'll work better, but they just don't compare.  They can't beat the responsiveness and the rebound of Bones!

And Doh-doh's are shit. Blek!

I rode Thunder 149ers since they came out until this spring. Was 100 % sure that was MY truck.
But tried out 149 Indys with Bones medium when the shop didnt have any more Thunder.
The turning is so much better and without the wheelbite I got constantly with Thunder even though my trucks are probably looser now.

I can actually gain speed from just turning, slalom style cruising. So fun.

Stock bushings. The orangeish ones, never tried the red.

Bones bushings are good but I love the feeling of 139 standards with the orange Indy bushings, no need to fuck with awesome.

Oh, got a new set recently and they were broken in after a day, doesn't take as long as it use to. Couple buddie got new Indy's recently and all say the same.

Stage 11s with med. bones are smooth fun.
Title: Re: independent trucks with bones bushings
Post by: brokenheadphone on March 10, 2013, 11:06:22 AM
For stage 10s I would use the Indy aftermarket "genuine parts" bushings which are 94A. For me this is necessary because I'm not a skinny little kid (In my 30s, currently about 200lbs). With those bushings the trucks would turn and carve decently but wheelbite was somewhat reduced.

Stage 11s turn deeper than the 10s and were designed to be used with a short barrel bottom bushing (not cone) to avoid wheelbite. Problem is, most of the companies that make bushings as well as Indy themselves are not offering harder bushings in a short barrel shape at this time. NHS says they want to sell through the existing stock of cone sets before doing a run of genuine parts with the barrel bottom. So, not a lot of choices out there if you want a bottom barrel bushing on your Stage 11s.

I bought a set of Khiro blacks, which are 95A and put them in the trucks. Not totally satisfied with the way they feel, but they're okay. Certainly better than stock Indy bushings anyway.

Now, I've other people's setups with Indys and bones and didn't like the way they felt at all. I also don't like the idea of plastic insert bushings either.

However, I was recently gifted a set of Thunders in an online drawing, and the package included a free set of Bones hard bushings. I believe these are 96A.  I just tried them in my Stage 11 159s (with no bottom washer and kingpin about flush with the nut) and wow, these things are squirrely as hell. I know a lot of big dudes swear by Bones hard bushings but these are not for me. Maybe if you like your trucks extremely loose and surfy, these bushings are the ticket, but if you ride more on the medium side and like bigger wheels (I have 56mm on this setup) these bushings are not well suited for the stage 11s at all. I got wheelbite just by leaning from side to side and not rolling at all. My guess is it's due to the bottom cone with no washer which doesn't limit the turning as much as the bottom barrels, which again, are the type of bushing these trucks were designed for. Oh, and I'm not getting any of the much hyped super rebound/return to center on these things either. They just feel like riding extremely loose trucks.

Now, for shits and giggles I'm going to try running the Khiro barrels on the bottom of the trucks with the Bones hard bushings on top. Maybe this will work OK.

u might be doing it wrong. if youre having trouble, crack the box open and read the instructions. were they brand new trucks?. ive never had any trouble with this. and i usually ride the indy stock bushings on my 139s flush with the nut and both washers until they are cracked(usually about 2-3 months) or i have enough $$ then i get medium bones with top washer only. it makes my trucks feel so good every time. i have them on my cruiser board too. its the best
