I think we all knew that the Herring bone tread pattern didn't stand a chance but overall the shoe performed well and still has a lot of life left in it. I wrote a crap lot of info so grab a sandwich and a Arizona, it's a bit lengthy.

Below is the performance from Day 1 to Day 7. Enjoy.

Nice review, my friend just got these. I tried them on and they're sooooo comforatble.
-
looks like it holds up like shit
-
your review makes me want to try that insole
Those Ortholite insoles in STI shoes are nothing special IMHO. They're very thin, and don't provide much cushion. Ortholite is also used in some running shoes. I've got a pair of Mizunos that had it...the only reason they were tolerable in those is because they have a super thick midsole with tons of cushion.

my emerica laced's came with ortholite insoles. They're really comfortable but thin, so i put em in my chucks on top of the insoles glued in.

good review, just wanted to mention that you neglected the full length polyurethane midsole in the Westgate, which is the same one as in the Reynolds classics. it is thick and heavy, and stiff at first, but after a week of walking in them they break in just fine. just cos it says vulcanized construction does not mean the shoe will feel like manchester selects. the sole is definitely a little thicker and the board feel isn't what normal vulcs are, but regardless, the shoe is probably an awesome purchase.

too bad Emerica's quality has gone to shit recently

Thanks for the input everyone, it's much appreciated.
I agree that the Westgates are a worthy purchase but have to disagree about the thickness and lack of board feel in the sole. This shoe broken in right away without me having to perform my normal break in process of running in them.
As far as saying "They hold up like shit", we all have different standards when mentioning the durability of a shoe. I've had friends that would have thrown out these shoes after a week but then again I'm not rich. I've always skated my shoes until I didn't have anymore duct tape left. I'm currently still skating the Westgates and I still have no blow outs but the stitching is starting to go. It's been almost 2 weeks now since I posted the review.
Overall, if The Westgate performance doesn't meet your standards, that sucks. But I believe people are going to pick up the Westgates for the same reasons you'd pick up a Half Cab, for it's comfort and protection.

thats not why i get half cabs
