So I've been skating for about 12 years, and the first eight or so years, I had skated mongo. I'm goofy, but the left foot just felt fine to me. After I started to get into my mid teens, everyone started saying that I should stop pushing mongo, and I ignored them or told them that that's what feels comfortable. This went on for years until I started to film and I saw how disgusting mongo looks, especially with me. So, after two weeks of pushing with the right foot, I'm proud to say I've been pushing with the right foot for the last four years.
But then I noticed something. People in the industry have stated that mongo's bad and nobody who's in the industry skates pushing mongo, and I was heckled for a while for pushing it and everything. So why don't people who push mongo switch apply to the same thing? I mean, personally, I think it's weird that so many people can get down on me for pushing mongo, but make excuses when I point out that they're doing it switch. It's just as hard to do it switch as it is to learn how to push right regular. So somebody tell me, why do you hate mongo pushing, but don't learn to push normal yourselves? Or if you agree with me, why?

Who cares.
-
I love switch mongo. It's an art form.
Ps. pushing switch un-mongo must be pretty easy for you after years of mongodom?
-
Yeah pushing normal switch has been easy. But so was pushing normal when you're skating normal growing up, right? I just don't see why one set of people to change, but it's acceptable for another set of people to avoid the same changes.

because in your normal stance you should normal push, but for fakie its quicker to set up if youre pushing mongo.
i think a part of it might be "stance recognition" for example if you see stevie williams mongo push you know theres a switch heel or fakie hardflip coming your way
-
It doesn't matter because it's okay to feel uncomfortable in your switch stance and you should be able to push normal in the stance you claim to be comfortable in.
-
nobody likes it, everybody does it
-
Got teased into learning to push regular early on after pushing mongo. Good thing is I can push switch regular though. Not sure about the "easier/quicker to set up" argument b/c it's way too annoying for me to even try pushing switch mongo.
Guys like Stevie Williams, Koston, etc. make switch mongo look good though.
Figure whatever works for you.
Definitely glad I learned how to push regular since all those longboarders and dude-bros look hideous pushing mongo in their flip-flops or DC moonboots!

yeah, like smoking.

mongo switch is legit, leo does it

if you are a pro, and cant push regularly switch.... idk what your problem is... i can push switch all around town and im not even hooked up at all... seriously i feel the same policy goes for mongo switch as regs, as the old saying goes, cops push mongo.
-
Never, just dont do it. How hard is it to push right, hell i´ve seen people push like a moron with their front foot only to switch flip back tail a ledge. Really, you dont want to take the time to learn the absolut basic?
-
i like the way vincent does it

was it the pals' questioning Ricky Oyola where he states that pushing normal while skating switch was a big deal to him and his crew because they had an obsession for "doing things the right way"?
it's weird, but it bums me out that I'm doing it wrong in the eyes of someone I don't, nor will probably ever know

He mentioned it in Kalis Epicly Laterd. Mongo push = dont film. I agree, it looks horrible, just stay away.
-
switch mongo is different because that's the foot that you're more comfy with, Koston does it, williams does it, Mike Mo used to do it, it's normal
-
no matter how hard i've tried in the past i just cant get "normal" switch pushing down, always ended up on my ass or looking like a chick trying throw something. gave up trying long ago. push mongo switch/fakie, just not at amy other point
-
I push switch mongo whenever i do fakie tricks, but push switch whenever i do switch tricks. Works quite well for me.

jb gillet

Mike Carroll does it, so it's okay.
-
its always puzzled me why guys like koston, stevie williams, & josh kalis, who all have HELLA switch tricks, why dont they just push regular switch?
if you can switch heelflip backtail, or switch tre down sets, theres no excuse for pushing switch mongo. lol
-
It's okay because it's switch. Kalis actually looks good doing it.
-
I actually put a little time into pushing switch regular, but I go slow as fuck when pushing as fast as I can switch. Maybe it'll come with time.
As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't really matter. Some people look just as weird pushing switch mongo as just pushing switch, I'm sure as hell I do.
-
there is actually nothing more aesthetically pleasing than a powerful & gangster switch mongo push.
-
Switch mong + the jump is where its at.
True heads know.
-
the only people who like switch mongo are people who can't push regular switch. don't piss pedal.
interesting logic there but i'm gonna have to disagree

you have the worst opinion on pushing style. a proper switch mongo push just reeks with authority.
-
regs mongo is that raw schit... the true essence. ;)
randy colvin > ricky oyola
-
i keep on saying to myself ill learn how to push non mongo whilst switch but it doesnt seem important enough at all, id rather try learn something else, or just float about and do a load of kickflips till my shoes break
-
just do what feels right, myself i can push switc with both my feet, but if you can only push mongo switch, everybody KNOWS your gonna do a trick switch.. i think some people use this technique :P

I wish that Finnish boy band would make a song called 'Switch Mongo'.
-
I pushed mongo when I first started skating and it is probably why I always felt comfortable pushing switch regular, since it's essentially mongo regular with your foot higher up on the deck.
-
If it looks good, it's legit. There's no real rule of thumb, I mean look at Gonz. I've seen him push almost every way a person can on a skateboard, mongo or not, and it's pretty awesome. I mean he is kind of an exception to the rule but that's what I mean, there are always exceptions.
