I've been kinda out of sink with mainstream skating for awhile, But i noticed on here alot of posters slam him alot. Just curious why? Did he say some off the wall shit in an interview or something around those whereabouts?

I don't really hate the kid but I think I could give you a concise summary of why people do:
1. He's a contest skater
2. He trains for contests
3. His dad is his coach
4. He dubbed himself "Steez Ortiz"
5. He does the same tricks over and over (not so true anymore though)
I'm definitely missing something.

I swear I'm not trying to be a dick...it's just that when I read "out of sink" I seriously spent a few seconds thinking, "Is this some new phrase?" Made me laugh.
Chaz Ortiz? A lot of kids his age with his talent act that way...he'll grow up...or not...either way I don't hate on him. He's way better than I ever was or ever will be.

Part of the reason people don't like his style is that he is a smallish person, giving him kid-style. Carlos de Andrade had the same problem: hispanic name, short stature, tons of contest wins, dude never even got a pro-model!

He didn't give himself that nickname, the dudes from Warp skatepark did, although he claims it a little too much. I think his biggest issue is he's a typical midwest kid, a little slow to catch on to the trends that skaters on the coasts tend to be a little quicker to adopt. That whole yo style with the diamond earrings and backwards hat are a direct influence from his favorite skater, P-Rod, who also runs the backwards hat and diamond earrings. Supposedly Chaz is moving out to Cali once he turns 18, and I think all the things he does that people hate on him for, will go away and he'll come into his own style both on and off the board.....

In all the footage I've seen of him, he seems like the guy at the spot who knows he's good, and always skates around with a smug ass look on his face. He's that guy at the spot who turns around and beams the shit out of everyone when he lands a trick. Like "did you see that? Damn, I'm good." I don't know if any of this is true, but he just seems like that for some fucking reason.
It's fine to be confident, but he just seems cocky and unlikable.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? Josh Kalis, Neen, and Josh Harmony are from the Midwest, so are Randy Ploesser and Patrick Melcher. All of them seem pretty different. I don't know what you mean by typical midwest kid.
Anyways, I find it weird that he's on a board company that represents a city that has developed some of the coolest street styles in skateboarding when all he seems to have is skate indoor parks. Sure, he's good (although some of the stuff he did in his State of Mind part had been done by people who don't even have a shop sponsor) and probably super consistent, but his skateboarding is boring to me.
I won't really judge him as a person, because I've never met him. I've heard some things though.

He seems like most kids do these days that are cocky with no perception of how their attitude rubs people the wrong way. I know alot of younger kids have style just like him, generic. Yet you can't deny his skills. Just not much originality.

Maybe because he hasn't really done anything to prove himself. He took advantage of one contest which kind of gave him an easy route. Then he only skated that and did the same tricks while being a douche to his fans sometimes. He earned what he has but probably not the way we would like to see somebody come up, that's in the streets.

there was some gatorade chaz ortiz tour in canada two summers ago, i had no idea it was going on, but one ended up being at my local park and i got to fill my trunk up with flats of gatorade. that was fucking awesome. of all this recent energy drink sponsorship going down, gatorade seems like the only one where people might actually consume the beverage.

Met him when he was like 7 when he still skated for either the Warp or Krush. He was on the same team as John Dickson and wouldnt stop doing back smiths. Chaz got first and Dickson second (probably a fix) and they gave the boards that they won away. His style is just as robotic and stale now as it was when he was 7.

Anyways, I find it weird that he's on a board company that represents a city that has developed some of the coolest street styles in skateboarding when all he seems to have is skate indoor parks. Sure, he's good (although some of the stuff he did in his State of Mind part had been done by people who don't even have a shop sponsor) and probably super consistent, but his skateboarding is boring to me.
I won't really judge him as a person, because I've never met him. I've heard some things though.

do you really think in this day and age that midwest skateboarders are sheltered? with the entire industry resting in the hands of the internet and the midwest having some of the strongest shops in the country do you think it really matters. and then whats the difference of midwest from east coast? its clear that you have to move to california to make a career out of skateboarding and that skateboarders in california are more "privileged" but as far as trends go, where all on the same level. and im assuming the d3 comment was sarcastic. sorry for the rant. i started typing and couldnt stop

i grew up skating with chaz at warp and he was lame even before he was famous. super cocky, always snaking people, wasn't grateful for anything, was rude to a lot of kids, the list goes on and on. now that he's a big name in skating its even worse. if you could all see how he skated you would see why he is such a contest skater. his dad literally had him training and doing runs at warp with a stop watch. thats why his video parts aren't up to par and are full of ABDs. obviously he doesn't suck at skating, but he could do a little better for video parts. a lot of people here in chicago are completely over that kid, including people he grew up with at warp. unfortunately a lot of the younger kids from here don't know the real chaz and think he's god or something.

I watched a clip where he skated some Chicago spots, it was actually pretty good. I understand all of your presumptions on his personality though. He seems like most kids do these days that are cocky with no perception of how their attitude rubs people the wrong way. I know alot of younger kids have style just like him, generic. Yet you can't deny his skills. Just not much originality.
I thought this little edit was ehhhh. Not gonna hate on him, but I can see why people expect more. He just doesn't really push the envelope. Which would be fine if he was personable, but I guess there are stories about him acting arrogant or whatever.

At first I saw him go into uprise and thought "maybe this kid is cool." Then upon closer inspection I realized what happened. He went in to get his board, and as tolerant as those guys were they were like "Here's your board, now go set that shit up outside! I don't want to look at your stupid face in that damn new era cap! haha. i feel gay for saying this, but it bothered me how the filmer tried to use uprise to make him look more core and like hes from the city of chicago. hes just about as far as it from a homie who would hang out at a local shop and i wouldnt be surprised if that was his first time at uprise. all the spots he went to in that video (excluding one or two) are the kind of spots everyone thats never skated the city go to
