I never really got into the EA Skate games but I did play the fuck outta the first couple Tony Hawks Pro Skater games. Im hyped they brought back the levels from the first 2 games. Nostalgia.
"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD" Worldwide Exclusive First Look at Gameplay with Tony Hawk and Chris Cole (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h5HHnP2HnM&list=PL2DDE2D39D69D3210&index=4&feature=plcp#ws)

if you did get into the EA skate games you would understand there's no reason to be hyped for this
-
Skate is good, no doubt, but I got mad love for THPS and I'm hyped on this. I dunno, it might just be the nostalgia, all those memories of me being a teenager playing THPS for hours on end, but I will always have love for THPS games.
-
From that preview, it doesn't even look like the dude is rolling, he's just floating right above the ground. After EA Skate, the whole button mashing combo shit does not entice me, even for nostalgia's sake.
-
Gaaah.. why do I bother coming to this place...
You know, one does not have to exclude the other. It is not a versus battle, just another game. And I kill at every THPS up to Underground, plus all Skates. Plus, stick controls were perfected in Amped. A snowboard game which sometimes had a horrible physics engine but still, great game nontheless. And no, I?ve never been on a snowboard in my life. The costs assosiated (the bro?s and worst of all, the damn thing is attatched to your feet) scare me.
-
Whack.
EA Skate series is the best skateboarding game, period.

looks fun . i dig the og games
-
after having to work for a flip back smith i just cant go to first try 720 inward heel backflip double nosegrind to forcegrab
-
Not bashing on the gameplay or the series vs the EA ones
but, if this is HD, no thank you, kinda remind of the THPS2 graphic quality on the first playstation

You guys are crazy. This looks rad.
-
i wish youtube worked in my work's computer :( unfortunatley i cant see the video but hey ill chime in anyways
Up to THUG (with the also noteably enjoyable american wasteland) i bought all of and loved the TH games. THPS1 and 2 were the only two games i evver played so much and so hard etc that i eventually got blisters and bleeding thumbs, thats nostalgia for you :)
ea skate is cool and all and thony hawk games have gone down hill but...actually i dont even care, i dont have a ps3 or xbox 360
-
i dont have a ps3 or xbox, all ive got is an n64 and a ps2. all i play is thps 1-4. i love the levels and corny ass music
-
the realism obsession in video games bores me. things like cod with real weapons and damage bore me, just as skate with real physics bores me. skate was fun at first but it wore of quick. i never bought 2 or 3. the controls were challenging but if i wanted that level of challenge i would go skate for real. i dont want to spend hours in a video game perfecting a trick i could do for real if i gave it enough time and practice. give me 720 inward heel mute grabs to casper slide in THPS any day.
-
Yeah dude Im not trying to say one if better than the other, i just was never really good at SKATE, and as far a button mashing goes, I dunno about you but when i play THPS i dont try to do 720 kickflip judo airs I try to keep it realistic. I used to skate Carlsbad gap in the second game and just do all the tricks that have actually been done. If I wanted to pay a video game where you start out super shitty and have to perfect your tricks, I would say fuck the video game and just go skate outside haha.
-
THPS 4 was the best hands down. Just the levels, story, and simplicity of it all was great. They got all crazy when they got into the THUG series.
I forgot that EA folded the SKATE series cause Chris Cole and Koston were in SKATE and there would be no way that they could be in THPS.
-
Underground has to be my favorite Tony Hawk game. But this new one won't even come close to being as good as the EA skate series.
-
My jam was the first THUG. I could not be beaten.
-
Well, on the bright side, at least it's not Ride.

wait if this is a combination of the first 2 games. This is a Tony Hawk 2x with better graphics?
-

I just hope they add that shit that is in THPS 4 where if you air off the side of a ramp, you can level back onto your board.
-
stupid why not just play the first 2. if you think skate is realistic i feel sorry for your mother. dont have video games but that shit is fun to fuck around on drunk and bomb the huge hills and all that bullshit
-
Still play thps2 for n64 since i dont own an x-box or anything but an n64. I usually japanese through it in an hour (per character) cause since a long time i have no memory card for it. Every time the game's turned off you just gotta start over again. I can clear the first level in 1 run. After that i take an endless free skate session at school2. I try to skate as realistically as possible, and hate when in 2 playermode people use manuals to connect everything.
So i dont see any reason to buy this game.

I know it's been said, but SKATE ruined THPS for me. The transition aspect alone is enough reason to prefer SKATE, let alone everything else.

TRILL masters can get every tape in a single run on every level in a single playthrough
Holla at the kid!
+I'm such a THPS OG that I literally sat in free skate mode and tried every single "SPECIAL" command with every skater in order to figure them out since I didn't have access to the internet.
The only one I didn't learn with that technique was the burntwist, as I had no idea that a special handplant would even exist.
I also didn't know that you could spin flips with the analog stick on N64 until years after I first played it.
GO HAM!

What a hunk of shit. Game looks terrible. Tricks look bad.
Maybe it is because I like real skateboarding.. but doing an Ollie from manual over a moving car after doing a 30,000 foot manual and doing flat ground Ollies to building roof tops is terrible.
-
It's a good/shitty thing that my current place doesn't have a ps3/skate3. I spent countless hours playing it last year, and I still would if I could. Ghetto Spot and the Pier were the new School 2 and Philly.
-
all you can do is shove its?
-
I genuinely hated that dude Eric from THUG. All the Tony Hawk series were sick up until skate. I recently played THPS 2 on an Ipod. Super fun. Skated carlsbad and Venice.

THPS4 was my favorite out of the pro skater series, with THUG being the overall best. It all went slowly downhill from there (project 8 was good tho) and once skate came out that shit was obselete. Thps games are what got me into skating in the first place too. They were good when they were all we had but nah fam skate completely shits on thps. This is coming from a lifelong gamer and skateboarder. Skate is like nba 2k, thps is like nba jam (more or less)
-
the least they can do is have Philly. Get full special and blast the love gap

I think we can all pretty much agree that once the Tony Hawk games started having a story about "coming up" it started to get real lame. I remember playing a bit of American Wastland...jeeze...so cheesy.
I liked THPS 1, 2, 3, and 4 because they kept it arcade-y. No plot, just mindless fun.

chris cole seemed super stoked when bird man told him he was gonna give him a copy
-
This looks so fucking awesome. Skate was cool but the Tony Hawk games will always be the best. I used to go to School II when it was a bonus level in THUG with Andrew Reynolds and I would do all of his signature tricks down the Leap Of Faith. Frontside flip, fakie flip, variel heel, nollie inward heel... good times.
Son, I am disappoint.
skate > Tony Hawk
and it's not even close
-
Thps 3 was my favorite. Before it came out I had mad dreams about the Wilshire rails was included in the LA level, instead I got the lousy Arco rails.
-
THPS 2 with the graphics from THUG = best game ever. Once I unlocked the school and venice levels in thug, I did nothing but classic mode and free skate.
-
I was stoked for this till I saw the graphics. Stating its an HD version should not mean just up rezing SD to HD, and just showcase how shitty the original graphics were. Who ever developed this game did a half ass job. Even less stoked hearing tony so excited for the graphics and remembering how much he loved and endorsed taht pile of shit Ride game.

Huh? Where'd you hear this? I still remember the Skate ad with Koston saying Skate was the best skateboarding game he's been in, like a slap to the face for THPS. I thought Skate folded cuz all the dudes went to make the new SSX and EA didn't see enough profit in another one.
I loved THPS2 more than life itself at that age, but I might have put more hours into Skate 3 than all other games I've played in my entire life. I still sit around with my friends getting stoned and playing it multiple nights a week, and I still love the shit out of it.
-

No Skate 4. Skate 3 was meant to be the last, thats why Black Box included such a massive creative aspect to the game. Everything they did was meant to bolster the user community so the die hard fans would keep creating and keep the game evolving. They released tons of DLC packs for it too. Not tons, but four or five.
THPS 2 was by far the best Tony Hawk game. It was just enough realism and just enough arcade for nearly perfect game play. You had manuals with out it being super arcadey I spent years and years and years playing that game. Fond memories. After that everything was so contrived I stopped really liking it as much. It slipped further and further into the arcadey narrative and crazy shit and I stopped caring. 2, 4 and THUG were solid, everything else...eh.
Skate on the other hand was fucking inspiring. I'd wake up and play skate for an hour or so, use the replays to analyze tricks and then go try them. Seems weird, but fuck, it worked. Great way to waste hours drunk or stoned, or to get ideas to actually get out there and do stuff.
-
i knew about skate months before it even came out and ive played the shit out of all em. i agree its an excellent game to play high as hell
-
For the sake of nostalgia and early childhood memories, I would totally get this game. I think I got the first THPS before I even got my first board. I hope they include those unlockable videos you get to watch in the game.

grind session had the right mindset. Popping out of rail tricks looked good, had Ed in there, music was tight, and skaters leaned into banks / any sort of slope. I'm pretty sure if they kept that going as a franchise it would have turned out tight.

I always wondered what the significance of that was, it seemed like it had to be in the game for a reason, but that one went straight over my head. I also didn't know they weren't making more until I read this thread though.
