Really good overall.  So much awesome skating.

Evan Smith's part, Dan Wolfe's Real part, and the Alien parts were highlights for sure.

So fucking good.

Does anyone know if I rent it from iTunes, put it on my iPod, and then use a program to rip it back onto iTunes, if it'll still disappear in 24 hours?  I just don't know when I'll be able to go to my shop and get the DVD, but I want to be able to watch it more than once.

Hoooooooooly shit that was good. My favorite parts were for sure Manzoori's, Wolfe's, Stroebeck's, and uhhh Houghton?  Dill still killin' it, Evan Smith on some next level shit, and pure Jake johnson/Gilbert carnage at the end.

Buy it if you can. Transworld deserves to recoup for putting together this allstar lineup. There are so many good parts. I think my favorite was the alex olson stuff at the end of strobeck. I also thought gonz trying to light the cigarette in different places was amazing for some reason. But then there's all the washington street ripping, habitat part, alien part, it really just goes on and on. Crazy video. I liked how Beagle's part was just throwing everyone in the mix too.

Strobecks section was great, Dennis Busenitz skates like a video game, Manzoori's night section was also great, and the Alien section killed it. Can't wait for my shop to get this in.

Damn, best transworld vid in a while... the hippy hop into that steep bank is no joke. It's local to me and that thing is made of shitty chunked bricks. Alien section was definitely the sickest part.

I don't remember which filmer it was, but the one that had all the fast-moving backgrounds with normal skating started to make me nauseous. Plus it was just distracting and looked stupid.

Fuck videos being on iTunes. I still havent even seen sb chronicles because of that.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I downloaded a terribly encoded version, which I deleted immediately, & then as far as I could tell, Nike managed to wipe all the copies off the web, so lots of people never even saw that video. And my local shop owners hardly even pay attention to new videos anymore - I think the last one we got was Fully Flared.:)

Given that videos are essentially ads now, and no one seriously expects to make any money off them, you'd think with all the effort & money that goes into making them that the companies would be a little more concerned with making them easy to see.

But what do I know?

it seemed like there was way too much filler in there. beagles part was like a baker video but without any of the baker dudes (or anyone ive heard of for that matter) which pretty much ruined it. strobeck, evan smith, busenitz, and that alien part were all amazing though. had more fun skating today than i had in a while after watching some of that evan smith stuff.

Post by: Snakechild on March 30, 2012, 02:22:56 PM
yeah, it was just alright for me.
I would have loved to see more Super 8/16mm stuff and more VX haha.
Beagle's & Russel's parts were tight.
Manzoori's was sick too, just a lot of people I didn't know. So it kind of bummed me out.

Alien part was by far the sickest.
Loved all the time lapse throughout the video.
music for the most part was just bleh, but that's just me.

Also, Bill Strobeck's was up there too
And of course, Mark Gonzales is tight. so good.

yeah sk8mafia was definitely a weird song choice.

it's well worth the $10, i feel. it's just short of an hour long, and if you watch a section at a time before you go skate, you will be hyped.

I was about to come in here and preach about how shitty DRM'd iTunes releases of skate videos are, but clearly its doing it's job. The time it takes to cap and upload one of these from a locked down iTunes file probably made them like $50 in this thread alone.

Sucks, because when you used to buy a DVD that shit was yours forever to play wherever and whenever. Now we get some Masterlock of a file that only opens with iTunes on 3 different computers before it locks you out.

If they just sold the straight .mp4s I could play this masterpiece on my phone, on VLC, on whatever the hell I wanted, and Transworld would get _all_ of the money instead of giving up an unholy cut to Apple. It would be the best possible situation for us and the companies, even better than DVD's/VHS's.

BUT that shit would get uploaded to every single file hosting service on the web within 7 minutes and Transworld and all those filmakers would make like $46 dollars total.

Not sure why I'm posting this to be honest. Maybe someone will realize how much this blatant piracy holds the medium back and will at least keep that shit to themselves? Seems like every other industry is on the verge of bending DRM right over for good but here we are like the iPod video just came out.

Am I the only one who cares about this?

holy shit russell houghton what planet am i on?!?

The intro to that part was awfull. It felt like one of those wierdly pornographic montages in baywatch. Everything was great when he stopped trying to be artsy though.

Couldnt enjoy the Busenitz and the Alien stuff the first time I watched it. I knew all the greatness would end so I was just sitting there and waiting.

Omar is crazy, he is way overdue for a new part

I really liked the video.  I thought the pre-alien section with the simultaneous time-lapse and slow mo footage was really cool.  I always wanted to try doing that but never got around to it....dylan's lipslide with all the people zipping by looked really cool.  Russell Houghten definitely put in a lot of hours.  I was kinda hoping for some more experimental stuff like that given the focus on "cinematographer"....it was a good chance to step outside of the normal skate video format we are used to.  Some took advantage of that, some didn't (eg. Evan smith is amazing but Chris Ray definitely isn't the most creative of the bunch).  I still have to take another viewing, it was a lot to take in.  The alien section was amazingly edited too....I don't know how I feel about the song choice in that section but it was still really well done and the skating was awesome.  It was nice to see Dill going for it again.  Only thing I wish this video had-------French Fred section

I wasn't a fan of the song at first, but as it went on I liked it more and more. It seemed to pick up with the energy of the skating while not being distracting or taking away from it.

I caved and bought it. The only thing I regret is not purchasing the HD version. This video is really good. > 1 hour of decent skating and great editing. it reminds me of watching the first Cinematographer vid from Transworld, where the emphasis is more on the filmers.

a few things:

1. definite berra diss in the alien section
2. grant T's noseblunt is insane
3. even if it were just the Real and Alien parts, this vid would be worth the $7
4. but even better with Gonz footage in Paris

It's in Strobek's part at the 11:12 mark.

And for people who haven't seen it yet Busenitz's cover is all the way around the ledge and he comes out straight.

I think the cover may not be a make.  He is wearing different clothes in the footage.  Then again, it is Busenitz, he probably just did it twice.

probably did it spontaneously one day when filming and then went and shot a photo of it. pretty standard

Yeah, he's still on. He just prefers to skate the Vikings over Gravis's slimmer shoes, so they specially make them for him.

Like someone else said, there seemed to be some filler sections (at least to me). But the sections I liked, I really liked and can definitely see myself watching over and over when I get my hard copy.

Anyone else find it funny that the AWS section seemed to be mostly footage from that Thrasher article?

Im surprised I haven't heard more about Russels section, I think his was the best/most stand out part besides the Alien Part. Alien section was on another level, the editing was on point and the skating just blew everything away. Beagles part was really funny and epic with that crazy song and his always funny filming/footage. Evan Smith part was a banger too.

I gotta give it up to Dan Wolfe though, His section was so raw and just straight skating no bullshit, dope track and busenitz destroyed it as well as the whole team, Kyle Walker really stood out to me too it that part, Love all the sf/ bay area spots. All the Filming was pretty good too.. Never really been TOO big a fan of Dan Wolfes filming but damn he can put together a good skate section.

The rest of it was just boring sleeper stock montages with a few exceptions from Mike Manzoori and Jon Holland.

TWS killed it though on this one.

Bummed I bought it, Evan and AWS are the only real standouts and they're both online now.  Busenitz definitely deserves some credit, but I preferred it when he did more dangerous stuff and less tech stuff.

What I really came here to say, is that I couldn't possibly rewatch Beagle's section with that fucking awful Goat song.  The only thing more off-putting than Shane Heyl talking is Shane Heyl singing.

I hope so. The video wouldnt play on my slow computer anyway.

i would doubt a DVD coming out. this is the age of intangible products.  especially a big company like whoeverthefuckownsTWS who's all about the bottom line.

I liked beagles part, i loved how he took the piss outa lakai with his ender. Plus he's one of the only dudes keeping it real and not trying to make it an artsy hd music video.
Edits should all be about making the skating look better. I remember a couple of years back with fully flared doing the whole slowmo shots of people running onto their boards before tricks. Now fucking everyones doing it, even people I respect as filmers. That kinda shit overdone was lame then and it's still lame. A couple of the parts in this vid could have had twice as many tricks in them if they weren't so fucking drawn out. And could have made me want to skate twice as much if they songs weren't so fucking boring. Still, best vid in a while.

Anyone completely blown away by Burmans last trick in the Aussie clip? WTF?!?! That and Marnell's switch tre. WHOLY FUCK!

(once again, in a civil tone: no one is able to rip it off the itunes stream because it has super-advanced nazi non-rippable technology. just wait till the dvd comes out or until a tech-nerd with superior piracy skills comes through. if a wild link appears, you'll know it's out there. until then, please contain yourselves and stop begging for something that simply doesn't exist yet. thank you.)

I finally broke down and bought it the other night. Itunes sucks but the video is ridiculous. I am glad I got it, definitely $10 well spent.

I would have paid for it for the Alien Workshop and Dan Wolfe (DENNIS BUSENITZ!) parts alone.

I was thinking about that yesterday. It really does suck for anyone who doesn't have a new or newish computer, nevermind all the countries without itunes releases/terrible or no internet connections etc. While the rest of the world watches videos at a more rapid pace, the physical releases must be coming out a lot slower than 10 years ago. So if you don't have a good connection, you are waiting longer and seeing much less than 10 years ago.

We're living in the big pants small wheels era of skate videos right now. Filming is getting tech, no one knows what they're doing and the end result looks like complete shit. People talk about internet killing the skate video, but for me it's the current medium. We get fancy saturated colors but the fluid motion and momentum is gone. Filming lines as we know is over, with the 16:9 aspect ratio there's just no room to properly capture what's going on.

Skating was absolute gnarballs from time to time and I hope the video could've done it some more justice. Evan is beast, Dylan is a beast, Jake and Gilbert are both beasts as well while Dennis is a double beast. Dan Wolfe, time has passed you by. That Russell van Houten guy was able to make it stand out as visually pleasing, although very polished.  As an honorable mention, anyone using that dreamy vignetting with skate footage deserves to have their balls chopped off.

dan wolfe is absolutely terrible, but don't blame it on hd. every single thing filmed in the alien section looked good, lines included. it never really occurred to me that the video was even filmed in all 16:9 until i actually thought about it, same with the evan smith section.

what was up with jason dill's yeah right ollie in the credits? had to be fake but it seemed pretty random to just throw in there with no context.

Guy, nobody is stopping you from saving skateboard cinematography(lol). Come on! The parts from Torsten Frank and Fat Bill really made me want to skate. Dan Wolfe and Rb Umali parts were pretty cool too - even though there's something off with the framerate or something, maybe because it was filmed on DSLR? - don't know, still didn't ruin it for me, far from it. My downloaded illegally copy stopped halfway through the film, so can't comment on the rest of it. I did skip Evan's part and the cement-park-part with stupid soft shit around the frame. Skipped the Manzoori part too, well, second time i watched it, I did. Anyway, some of this was really good - even Transworld couldn't ruin it with their normal corniness, they sure tried( the intro for one). Im out.

Have you seen Real's latest video? Or "The cinematographer project"? You don't have to know anything about filming or camers to realize how awful Dan Wolfe is.

you guys do know that the iTunes & internet versions are all 30p right?  that's why things look so fucked up and jittery sometimes with regards to frame rate.  try watching the 60i DVD or the 60p Blu-Ray and I think you'll notice that all the parts look much clearer and smoother.

Yeah, I just realized it's actually a sign of how much steadier and better all around filmers have become that Dan's footage looks so weirdly amateurish now.

He's pretty much filming the way he always has, but back in the day it didn't stand out so much.

Torsten frank recycled a lot of gonz footage and audio from adidas commercials. Still cheesy the second time around. Chewy cannon saves the day. Too sick.

Middlebrooks section needs to be talked about more. I was really surprised by jake duncomb. I thought he was a piled out leprechaun with a drinking problem. Totally wrong on that one. And all of dane burmans stuff made me feel like i was watching a sick zero section. Hats off.

Strobeck shouldve just used that song "playing with the boys" from top gun and cut in shots from the volleyball match. Ill re-edit it myself if i have to. A lot of meaningless filler footage from gonz and the guitarist. Not enough footage i guess? He couldnt just recycle some of his oldeer footage or get tino razo to soul skate a little? Jakes switch back nosebiunt. Boom. Olsons lines. Niiiice. Dylan skating. Fancy.

The busenitz line-ism school of skate is pretty heavy through this whole video. Smacks of it are seen prominently in manzoori's edit chewy cannons section dylans subway grate line evan smiths bench line and danny garcia and olsons lines at beverly hills/LA. Dennis' lines were still the sickest in the whole video though.

Russell houghtens edit was a mix of prudential insurance with a dash of bed bath and beyond and a heaping tablespoon of mitsubishi commercial. The skating was really good though. Im pretty sure a lot of that was footage from the imaginary analog video. Dylan had some really good stuff. If you took all his footage across the different cinematographers and credits roll he wouldve had enough footage for a new part. The same could be said about gilbert and jake.

Leo romeros school of rail skating is really up in the club here. Between jakes camo switch 5050 donovan and gilberts flat-to-rail tricks chaz ortiz's ender and dane burmans tow in 5050 and that 50-50 gap out over the stairs in dan wolfes section. Super pyched on the rail spot selection in this video.

Guru and dela had some great tricks and stefans wallride sw crooks was like magic as were all of his tricks. And every trick marius does looks classic.

Black dave is really good (good pickup zoo!) but kevin tierney shouldnt be sponsored. Eli reed and zered bassett really killed it with spots and tricks and as always brandon westgate murdered shit. Im glad rb umali realized that going dad rock on the song choice ala state of mind was a bad idea. Totally thought there'd be some axion riders with that song though.

I rewatched beagles part more that ld like to admit. I like that he was the only fool still doing it VX style. Best intro. So sin.

And theres nothing left to say that hasnt been said about the alien section. Bonkers.

And there was still lots of good footage in the credits.

Did anyone see the Highs and Lows section (it might be called Hot and Cold) of Transworld's April issue (Jack Curtain switch back 50-50ing clipper on the cover)? One of the lows was the demise of Megaupload. In the blurb they wrote something to effect of "fuck the corporate machine, long live the pirate!" Ha, then they sell the Cinematographer Project on iTunes. Man, Transworld is such a lame publication.
