-
rebirth of heelflip crooks
-
goddamn i'm sick of seeing shake junt griptape
-

-
does dis dude like to ride his board backwards???????
-
the move to baker, good for him. shake junt though, a company based upon exploiting black stereotypes, run by white guys, should fuck off already.
-
Dude skates exactly like his dad. Tech, but no style.
Bs nbs was sick though.
-
never really been too into his footage but that back noseblunt was tight
-
that was actually one of the best bangin ever, cool that he changed his trick selection since that lakai am video
-

-

No style?
I beg to differ
-
riley > grecs
-
He's getting super good super fast. No sense comparing him to his dad or Greco or anyone. Also I'm glad he doesn't skate much switch, fuck switch, why waste time learning it both ways instead of bigger and better one way.
-

obviously all filmed in the same day, really well rounded and unique. Riley's sick, birdman's son or not.
^^Shane is not exploiting black stereotypes you person, he's just being the kick ass, wild, crazy nut, reformed meth head, he actually is.
And it's sad people are buying his bullshit.

I don't see how they're "exploiting" anything. Shane and Beagle seem to genuinely be into all that shit. Last time I checked they've been doing this same kind of stuff for over a decade. It's just that now they have a company based around it.
-
goddamn i'm sick of seeing shake junt griptape
-
i knew what shake junt was before shanes lame ass, fuck shake junt as a company its fucking super played
-
May not have been the best Bangin' ever, but, as far as I'm concerned, that was the best footage he's put out so far. He's definitely getting better.

im not black but it does come off as a 'Minstrel Show'

That was the first one of those "Bangin'" clips I've watched. Holy shit that sound effect they use every time he does a trick is annoying. Do they do that in all of them?

It's caused by the type of slow-mo they use. And yes pretty much every one is like that.

ehh, not really too bothered by it. it can certainly look that way if you try to put it in that perspective but at the same time the whole Shake Junt/BakerBoys family seems to be a tight one and it seems like everybody is satisfied and cool with each other. i wouldnt call it exploitation if everybodys happy. it aint like shane heyl is some suitwearing prick, he definitely fits in with the shake junt image

Great job, Pile. You turned skateboarding into racism driven bullshit. So lame.
i feel that the company exploits a racial stereotype and i don't back it, i'm not claiming it's racist, that would be a ridiculous claim. the reason i feel that way is because i have seen people emulating whatever the fuck the shake junt crew did in their latest video and it's not always a great thing. younger kids are obviously intensely impressionable, and i personally, as an advocate for equality amongst everyone, just seem to find it pretty irresponsible of them to promote some of the things they do.
if shane heyl's a reformed crackhead, promoting drinking and smoking weed and shit to kids seems pretty fucking dumb. he's making money off of kids who he might be steering down a similar road of addiction, with the image of his company whether he's aware of it or not. i might just be over reacting, but i don't like seeing the kids around my park abusing racial slurs and stumbling around drunk and fucking high "acting a fool B". i don't know if you're intelligent enough to look at something from more than one perspective darrin lee, so i'll forgive you for your terrible attempt at an argument as well as the claim that i am responsible for "racism driven bullshit".
are you aware of what exploitation is? look it up numb nuts.

If you see the whole baker / deathwish scene as stereotyping blacks, chances are, you have preconceived notions about black people yourself. But at the same time, I guess I can understand.
A majority of the people I see repping baker, deathwish, and shakejunt are younger white kids or hipsters that listen to juicy J for teh lulz.

No Racial stereotyping? Chickenbone nowison is the name of their video, chicken wax. Black people liking chicken and watermelon is a racist stereotype.
Seriously Shake Junt is the most regular scene in skateboarding. Who the fuck wants to watch a bunch of 30 year olds, half with no education, drinking beers, smoking weed, throwing things at each other, and doing other petty stuff.
Oh wait that's right; impressionable 12 year old kids who are uneducated and immature still. Adults letting kids think that acting like this is ok and profiting from it is fucked.

Young kids are impressionable. In Antwuan's Epicly Later'd, Shane says: "Alcoholism kills. It's a disease and I have it." If this is not anti substance abuse promotion, I don't know what is. This was the episode that most clearly revealed the negativity and chaos the abuse is having on Antwuan's career and life. Drew, Greco and others have all said similar things, even spoke out about trying to get him to clean his act up. What you're talking about is the false image of drugs being cool and integral and having a fun life, it has absolutely nothing to do with racial stereotypes, it's drugs and alcohol stereotypes. Drugs and alcohol clearly don't discriminate based on race.
I'm not trying to be a lame hater, I hardly ever comment on these things because I don't want to get involved in the nonsense. I'm 28 man, I've skated on and off for about 15 years, have a degree, used to work at a skate mag, just to clear up you thinking I'm some noob kid. I just really don't like to see the complex topic pigeonholed into a "racial stereotype." It really has nothing to do with race, it's about drugs. Yes, some of the past Shake Junt videos did have drug content that could be viewed as portraying them as cool. In the big picture, however, they've shown an authentic representation of where the "pissdrunk" lifestyle is going to leave you with in reality- a wasted career, in rehab/AA meetings, jail, or worse.
Just because some lame wastoid kids act regular at your park, and perhaps happen to have Shake Junt, this does not in anyway show the company is exploiting racial, or even drug, stereotypes. I just don't like the race card being thrown in, I don't think it has anything to do with it.
That's all. Didn't mean to offend.
Shut the fuck up baker fanboy.
You are so fucking regular that it blows my mind. How you could possibly think baker sends an anti-drug message is beyond me. In an episode of epicly later'd a couple of them make points about how alcoholism is bad after being grilled by it, but take no reponsibility for their companies 100% pro-drug image, and almost make it seem like alcoholism is like a virus that you catch by sitting next to an alcoholic on an airplane. Outside of that episode, you never hear them speaking negatively about drugs. They know drugs are profitable, so they sell that fucked up lifestyle to children. Those dudes have been marketing Antwuan as the wildchild from the start, and though they may not have been able to stop, they definitely didn't try, if anything they encouraged the behavior that led to it.
You think they take alcoholism seriously? Explain why they still have footage of Shane and Greco drinking in their newest videos with party music playing despite the fact that both have quit? They sell the image of boozing even after it nearly ruined their lives. That's the opposite of sending an anti-drug message. Instead of showing the real story about how they partied like that until their lives nearly turned to shit, quit, and then were able to actually produce the footage you see in the video part, they play up the party thing and don't show anything bad about it. On top of that you have Neen adds with him smoking joints with speech bubbles that say some shit like "crucial" or "vital" or something, and Ellington ending his parts with "We're gettin' fucked up tonight!" That's not sending a responsible message about drugs at all. The fact that you find a random serious interview with those dudes where they clearly backpedal the fuck out of what they really market and take that over all of their marketing is hillarious.
We can have the discussion of whether or not it is a skateboard company's responsibility to send a positive image, but that is a separate discussion. The fact is, baker and deathwish are the most pro-drug companies in skateboarding today
Of course, you missed the point Pile was making. He wasn't saying alcohol is a black stereotype. However, when you mix malt liquor, fried chicken, pimps, and random images of menthol cigarettes, you are clearly using black stereotypes to sell your brand. Whether people are offended or not is up to them, but let's not pretend its just a coincidence
Oh, and nobody would give a fuck about Riley Hawk if his last name was Smith. Dude is getting hella privilege because of his name. Not his fault, but he'd be on rep flow if he was a random kid from the midwest skating like that.

baker/shakejunt = minstrel show
-
i think shake junt is more about ballin' out--you know ads with cars and chains and bitches. they're not saying all black people do this so it's cool, it's more about pimps and toung-in-cheek-pimpin-it in my eyes.
it's all kind of one big joke ya know
that said, i think burnett said it best in his thrasher article about the deathwish tour, where he pretty much said that the lifestyle they're promoting can potentially be a bad thing--jist of which being 'there's always gonna be someone who takes shit too serious, especially young kids.'
at a (slightly) older age i can see that partying like that is fun, but not a full time way of life. i can laugh at the adds and appreciate a team of garths who party on and shred it up
-
