Title: Anyone print alot of shirts?
Post by: october on March 11, 2013, 04:43:20 PM
I'm about to place a fairly large order of shirts, and was hoping to get some opinions on what brand shirts everyone prefers.

I used Gildan 6.1oz before, and didn't care for it too much. I hear alot of good things about Alstyles 1301 too.

I know American Apparel 2001 is popular, but I'm not really into the whole "fitted, slim" thing. But then again, these shirts are for resale, and not my personal use. So, any opinons?

And I'm still looking for a good screen printer. I don't think my local shops are all that great, so I will probably order out of state.

I work at a big screen printing shop. Gildan shirts are garbage. Always go with AlStyle.

1701 is just a slimmer version of the 1301. The fabric is so soft on both.

Alstyle t's are the shit. The fit so perfect. Those shitty gildan shirts self destruct after one wash. Washed an XL in cold water once and that shit shrunk up to a fucking tube top.

1301 is the standard of the skate industry because its cheap and available but its a pretty harsh feel compared to the 1701 and 5301. I know crailtap prints on 1701 because it has a nicer touch and Alstyle adjusted the fit to be like the 1301. if price isnt a deterrent then i would go 1701(probly $.25 to $.50 a shirt more) because I think at retail it will sell better than the 1301 because the consumer now a days seems to want a softer tee than the durable heavy 1301 tee. if you need a printer let me know i got a couple in So Cal with good prices.

yeah... 1301 is just regular cotton.  Kinda harsh.  Nothing special.

Ring spun shirts are soft and nicer. 5301 is ringspun.  Alstyle recently updated their 1701 line and 1701R is the one that is ringspun.  1701 is now what they call "soft-spun".  Not sure what the exact difference is.

Ah, I see.

I was afraid the 1701 was too soft and thin, almost like hippie surf brand T's. The 1701 did come more highly recommended. Sucks that it takes weeks to get samples in.

I'm not a fan of thin collars, so does the 5301 make more sense then?

I'm gonna have to give some of you a shirt for all the helpful info, ha.

I hate gildan with a passion. Worst type of t shirts I have ever wore.

I agree. The screenprinter I was going to use kept pushing Gildan on me, explaining how great the quality is, blah blah blah.

When I think of Gildan, I think of shirts your highschool made that shrink up 3 sizes after one wash, a box with sleeves.

Agree. I used Gildan for a run of shirts for my shop, and I pretty much had to give the whole batch away.
They were aweful. One wash and they were gone. Myself and most kids knew to throw them away instead of washing them, but there are those young kids that just wear a shirt no matter what, and seeing my logo on them was embarrasing. Never again.

I've run the Allstyle 1301, and yes, like previously stated, it is your run of the mill thick cotton shirt.

I've run tultex before (not sure of the style #) but they were american apparel one offs, and they were hit or miss. one batch would be OK, and the next would be odd. So thats a NO for me.

Looks like I'll try the 1701 Alstyle and let you all know. It'll be a while though, because it's wont friggn stop snowing here and my shop is broke as fuck right now.

So, the printer doesnt get Alstyle, and tells me American Apparel 2001 is pretty much the same shirt as the Alstyle 1701. Is this true? It's been 2 weeks, and I'm still waiting on samples from Alstyle. Not trying to put these shirts off another month to get sampels from AA.

This is the Alstyle shipping department. They make great shirts, but take weeks to get back to you with sample books, orders and questions. Sometime when your order finally gets there it's just missing things.

Well, glad to know its not just me. I have had tons of trouble just getting responses to emails and phone calls. At this point, I need to get the shirts made. Tired of waiting on other businesses not coming through.

The only reason people use Alstyle is because aa2001 is more expensive.  If they were the same price, everyone would use AA2001
