Title: early 90s/football shape decks???
Post by: g.i.s.m. on March 27, 2015, 04:07:44 PM
http://skately.com/shop/p/enjoi-big-pants-small-wheels-complete-skateboard (http://skately.com/shop/p/enjoi-big-pants-small-wheels-complete-skateboard)

saw this deck in the new enjoi catalog and i really want to make the purchase but really really do not want to buy an enjoi complete... it doesnt seem like they sell the deck as a standalone which is not too dope. so the question is, do any brands at the moment still make this shape anymore? i really want to give it a try.

I like how it doesn't specify wheel size.

Somewhat similar...flatter tail though.
http://fickleskateboards.com/shop/decks/the-classic/ (http://fickleskateboards.com/shop/decks/the-classic/)

This guy makes the best skateboards I've ever ridden. The higher price tag is more than worth it in my experience. I've ridden his decks for over a year, when my Creature's and Hopps and Krooked's would snap in a couple of weeks.

Also take a look at old guy&longboard sites like http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/ (http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/) and http://socalskateshop.com/ (http://socalskateshop.com/) as they probably have other decks like what you're looking for.

Good luck!

Curren Caples had one out a while back. There was a thread about it a while ago. Few other examples of similar elliptical boards too.

Blind rereleased the fucked up blind kids boards a few seasons ago. You can still find some online at a reasonable price

Cease and Desist is one of the only companies that makes football shapes, but they are knockoff wall hangers. I don't know how skateable they are. Most of the others mentioned are proto-footballs--smoothed out '80s vert shapes that are widest near the front foot and have squarish tails. A true football shape widens out more towards the middle and has a thin nose/tail, optimizing it for flip tricks (the fucked up Blind series and most Blind decks from late '92 to early '93 are spot on).

Socal Skateshop has a Krooked Drehobl Zeroks deck that is kind of close, but is a hybrid of an '80s shape and a football. I thought JK industries would definitely have one, but then remembered that Klein's shapes, even back in the day, were a bit of a throwback (wide near the front with blunt noses). Perhaps JK will make a small run of true footballs if there is demand.

if you don't have the slap ocd thing where you can't even push unless your tail is perfectly symmetrical you can bomb a hill on your cruiser or a friends board and grind down the sides of the nose and tail on the way down ( holding your board infront of you and putting pressure on it while moving it around to even it out). i do this when i get a board with a wider tail. then i go over it with a file to clean it up

I found one at SoCal Skate Shop. I do not know anything about the company or the wood. 80 bucks for a heat transfer sounds a bit expensive, regardless.

on the topic of football shaped decks, could any old heads here help identify one of those boards? it was a slick, red to purple-ish colors and pictured a stripper on a pole. the graphic was in portrait view and had "adam" written somewhere on the board. could it be an adam mcnatt board? i know the description is kinda vague but thats all i have. i looked everywhere on the internet and had no luck. i got that board off a friend when i was 13 so i can't remember much and was not very brand conscious at the time. thanks

I’d be super interested in hearing your thoughts on it

Thinking about getting big egg or bigger egg. Would it be crazy to put 169s on the bigger? I don’t wanna get new trucks... but could be worth it

169s would probably be fine on a bigger egg but a bit large for a big egg

i have a 139 on the front of my egg and a 149 on the back but its only this way cuz a shop accidentally gave me 2 different size trucks as a pair and im an opportunist so didn't return them

Nahhhhh That would bug me so much. I remember my friend bought a set of trucks and they sent him one hi and one low. He never noticed but I saw that his board was always rocked lol

I had that Zero Boserio 'photo' board which was the 8.625 egg shape. Loved it, glad it's back, but for the past 8 months or so I've sized up to Ace 55s, not sure if I can go back down.

I personally wouldn’t. I also wouldn’t run Indies on something with that small of a WB. I’d probably run Venture 6.1a for that old school feel or else I’d run Thunder 151s.

I love running trucks that are .125-.25 larger than the board if the kicks are wide/squared but I hate it with footballs/pointy kicks unless it’s a cruiser.

It’s preference though so who knows you might like it.

Anyone ever skated a Krooked football? 8.37 x 31.7 x 14.12wb. Shape seems almost identical to the Deedz Enjoi one (never had one though). What trucks would you run on this? Only have 8.5 trucks, Venture Indy and Thunder.

Been sizing down very slowly and figure it might be a fun quiver

I'm guessing 8" trucks cuz crazy tapered. I've got a Zagger shape and 8" seems to fit flush but I never checked my 144's.

really hyped on the look of the polar football. the amount of taper near the trucks looks really good for flip tricks and potential techy stuff. are my assumptions true for tapered football shapes? i had an antihero cardiel but i wouldnt consider it a football at all in hindsight

I finished skating mine recently and it seemed like it’d be good for lots of flip tricks! I mostly skated curbs and transition with it, trying kickflips here and there. I’d recommend it for sure, especially if you want more room but a still functional board

Skated mine as a normal board with Indy 149s and 53 spits . Deck and wheels were pretty flush

Now it’s my cruiser with thunder 149s and 55clouds and the wheels stick out a little.
Overall, loved this shape and might pick up another soon

Yeah I’m a 10.5. Took a bit of adjusting but I was skating 8.5s before it so it wasn’t too bad of a transition.
