Has anyone ever talked about this? It seems like it would be possible to make a bearing out of super strong magnets, that way instead of balls in races, two surfaces can just float around each other. Like those magnetic trains they have in china! But in a bearing.

Thats an interesting idea, I wonder how much magnetic force it takes to withstand skating, I think it might be more than can fit in a skate wheel, but it would be an interesting ride

Yeah, what if someone powerslides. Would they slip out?

they've had this technology for decades but Big Ball Bearings and the powerful lobbyists that work for it are blocking the patents from being approved and buying out businesses before they can release products onto the market.

So, are my grand kinds going to be skating them?

The trains use electromagnetism, which needs electric current to create a magnetic field. Regular magnets lose polarity due to vibration and heat. The wheels spinning generates lots of heat and energy and will weaken the magnets. Also, magnets can become depolarized through impact. Dropping a magnet can completely kill its strength. Also, to lift a human would require a huge regular magnet, making your board extremely heavy.
Sincerely,
Big Ball Bearings

Magnets.... how do they work?

"Aren't magnets brilliant"

Grandpa already shut this shit down but the first thing I thought of was this
