Hi guys, so this is my first post (yay). But I want to know if I'm to old to start skating. I'm 14 right now and I just quit scootering (my mother said it looked regular). So I just wanna know if I can still skateboard cause a lot of my friends started at like age 8 or 9. Thanks

Switching it up helps.
If you are decent on a scooter you should be able to pick up a board and once you got over the initial learning you can develop quickly and catch up.

Never too late but it will be frustrating during the general learning phase. Just keep going and then you get to have fun on the way to the store or school or where ever. You get there faster and you get to do tricks on the way.

Any time I'm asked this question, I always tell people to look up Neal Unger. 14 is definitely not too young. There are people who start skating at the age of 30, 40 and even 50. Neal Unger started at 60. The question should always be "Do I want to do this?" If the answer is "yes"...then do it.

I started when I was 14, I'm 34 now, do the math...
Still learning new stuff everyday.
Without skating I wouldn't have met my wife, met some of the raddest people ever, have the taste in music I have, live where I live, travelled to where I've travelled, see the bigger picture of things, life, etc.

Well starting that early can lead to quitting sooner, especially with the difficulty that comes with skateboarding. Being older might give you an advantage of knowing how long you want to stick to doing it

Going to assume you're not a troll and be hella sincere here: Definitely start skating. I got my first "real" board at 13 and it was one the best decisions I ever made. Changed my life and gave me some life-long friendships. I'm 30 now, and just got back on a board after about 5 years (mostly) off . Since the beginning of the year I've been going to my local park almost daily and skating with people of all ages. Was surprised not only how nice the younger dude were to me, but also surprised to see a lot of dudes far older than me shredding the fuck out of that place. It was super inspiring for real. Making me feel like I can get even better now than I was when I was 16/17. Sure as hell going to try. My general mood and also my body generally are better than they were before I started skating again. It's still the best shit ever. Throw that scooter in the garbage and get on a board, you won't regret it.

Id say now is the best time. No one believes me but it seems like yesterday when everyone who skate was 21 and under and really good. It's just not the case now....there's a super broad range and you can pretty much skate anyway you want.....

Yeah, you should probably keep scooting, bro. If you don't start skating young you're never gonna be any good. I mean, shit, how can you be as good as Nyjah or Shecks if you start skating at the age they turned pro?

First, Props on putting away the scooter and starting to skateboard. Your mom knows what's up. Second, as far as too old; I have a friend who started skating at 36! Never skated prior. The dude actually rips now too! He's in his mid 40's and can hold his own, so no, 14 is definitely not too old to start.

started two weeks ago,picked up a board after 20 years cos I work as a MA coach and I could't afford injuries! I just don't give a f**k anymore,I miss skating so much!!!

Never too late, well maybe, but 14 is a great age to start. As long as you're not like 90 with a hip replacement.

Tell ur mom to keep her opinions on whats cool where the sun doesn't shine (she should get a kick out of that). The scooter IS dangerous tho. The handlebars will smoke you in the grill. Skate if you want but keep it clean and stylish don't meat head it.
