Title: The SLAP Folklore thread
Post by: SOTY on January 09, 2018, 05:57:35 PM
Bobby Peru wants a SLAP Epicly Later'd.
I'm going to get selfish here and say history of SLAP - Dawes, Morford, Whiteley, Brook, etc with a bit about the forum at the end
Fuck that, you guys know what happened. This thread is for anything that involves or pertains to the Universe of SLAP. Honestly, I would do this myself but the search engine isn't exactly user-friendly. I've got a few questions:

-What are the rules on here? I can't find them anywhere yet I've seen users get banned.
-How did "off" become "of"?
-Who is the oldest active member? (at least 1 post/week 8))
-Tracer: what made him so villainous?
-Who is unnamed Euro TM?
-How do you SLAP?
-Which pros came on here to silence the haters?
-Where's bawtawd?
-Does this thread already exist?
Etc.?

This is where we SLAP about SLAP. Truth only, please.

“Off” became “of” 14-14 years ago. It was a thread titled “Gino of Chocolate”. My selective memory has the joke mostly being centered around Gino being made of chocolate

Can't answer all your questions, but:

I don't know if there's a list of rules anymore, but just don't act like an asshole and you'll be fine.
Stuff like repeated rape threats, and posting personal info about other posters will probably get you banned.
Pussy white-supremacists are still allowed to post here though, for some reason...

Jayme Fortune, Jamie Thomas, Henry Sanchez, Josh Kalis, Ted DeGros, Alex Chalmers, and Anthony Shetler have posted on here. Maybe Kelch too? And probably some others I'm forgetting.

The "of" comes from a thread title about Gino from like 2004, where "off" and "Chocolate" were both misspelled.

Tracer is just a kook who was always overly-confident with how dumb he is.

I SLAP drunk.

Bawtawd is doing research chemicals in his mom's garage.

Right around the time I joined I heard about an incident where someone got on here to talk shit and a poster knew his location and went to his house to confront him. I believe it was about Jamie Tancowny? that was probably the best story I've heard here.

There would have to be interviews with Brooklyn Brawler, Rawb, COTG, tony hox cox, Vicky, etc.

Yeah that thread a pretty hectic one, the dude's name is slipping my mind...I remember he had a part where for the first half he dressed like cliche 2003 Canadian, Tall tees, Circas, etc and then halfway through the part took a full 180 and was all black jeans, medium shirt, black shoes. Like a totally different skater, in dress and their skating itself.

It seems like whatever went down with "Vicky" was prettty crazy and no one will speak of the infamous "Vicky story" but fair enough if its a life-ruining kinda thing still curious though, I have seen what may be hints it may have involved puke and strippers

Shetler's appearance was really funny because he just kept telling kids to kill themselves because they were trying to discuss business with him, but on his podcast he presents himself as a super positive guy. The Internet really does bring the worst out of folks.

IIRC

Chalmers was mostly posting to sell skateboarding stuff, and also talked about his Really Sorry footage that mostly went to that Digital part.

Shetler didn't immediately announce his identity, but started a thread to talk about how Aaron Suski should be more respected and deserved to have a pro model shoe. Then he went on and acted like a kook.

What happened with the thread about Ben Raemer's sister?

Also Jamal Smith posts here sometimes.

The Euro TM thing was just some really stupid thread about some skater changing teams, OP claimed to have a very reliable source, then when he was questioned as to who this reliable source was he said, "A TM for a European wheels company, you've probably never heard of him."

"Saved" might be overstating it, but I do think Eldridge getting on Mystery, was influenced by people on here, telling/pressuring Jamie Thomas to put him on. I think there was even a small-scale campaign for it, amongst some posters.

When Thomas was on here more often, I often felt like he used Slap as like a focus-group of sorts, to see what skaters thought was cool, what direction he should take his companies in, and who he should put on.

There's more examples of this kinda thing I'm forgetting, but I felt like people like John Fitzgerald and Forrest Edwards being put on BlackBox companies, were also influenced by their association with OIAM, as well as Slap's love of Forrest.

Cliff may be referring to there was a weekend when Markovich posted and he was trolled and subsequently peaced....I've heard rumours it was actually members of the blind team doing it.

The David Lumpkins looking for VHS copies of that TV show was good....

The transformation of Hillary.....

It all happened here....

Ha I think it was YMHY that coined the nickname "Kris Markassbitch".

David Lumpkins thing was insane. That was Mizzark (pre-Hillary) that set that up, right?

And yeah, that Hillary thing was definitely a huge surprise at the time, but she seems a lot more comfortable and happy now, so good for her. Some of the interviews she put out, really made me empathize with what she was going through, and what she has to continue to put up with.

Anybody have an update on cigarettebeer?
he sends me Facebook messages every six months. At one point he checked himself into a mental institution in Mexico after taking a bunch of psychedelics. I think he’s married and lives in Mississippi now. Some girl I know once told me a story about how he found her on MySpace and flew out to Boston to date her. He chased her around the kitchen with a butcher knife when he was blackout drunk. Things didn’t work out between them

That Mizzark David Lumpkins thing was wild. He flew from Toronto to North Carolina to buy all the episodes of this tv show called “Sk8” on vhs. Mizzark stood him up at the airport. I wish the original thread still existed

What went down with briden? I used to talk to him every so often on an ea skate forum but never got why he left/got banned.

I've hung out with him in person and I keep in touch with him on the internets. He's cool. But he earned that ban.

One fun pro memory was when Jamie found out Dan Murphy quit Mystery through SLAP. Someone made a thread called something like "Dan Murphy on Foundation?" and Jamie chimed in saying, "Uhh pretty sure he still rides for Mystery?" He didn't. Jamie researched and then deleted his comment.

How did RAWB turn his rep around in this place? I think his opening thread is in classic slap and he’s getting clowned relentlessly in that. It’s like a SLAP zero to hero story haha.

Rawb was amazing from day one but Vicki and BB used to bully him crazy bad. I think they even made a website about him or something?

I used to run fake Rawb accounts when he'd get banned and would also sometimes give him my account to use. I got banned probably a half dozen times for it. Then after the notorious Vicki story she peaced out and BB did shortly thereafter. Once they were out Rawb rose to glory with his Slap rap. I was psyched to get a shout out in it.

Cigarettebeer sent me a pic of him sticking his dick in some girl's ass on Facebook last year.

Because of SLAP I went to my high school prom with the most beautiful girl, that girl Tal who used to post here. She was my first real kiss, and she was also way better at skateboarding than me. Bless her soul <3 I peaked 13 years ago

She randomly messaged me on AIM eons ago, for some reason she was interested in talking to me from this board even though she had no idea what I looked like or anything. A couple years later Myspace was invented and we became friends on there, I guess she thought I was cute and we kept in touch and eventually ended up going to prom. She took the Chinatown bus all the way from NYC to Boston to go to prom with me and hang out for a weekend. My family thought she was the raddest gurl and all my friends were blown away by how rad and cute she was. I was kinda a outcast in high school so everyone was v confused who the megababe I brought to prom was lol. We built a fort in my room and just cuddled and made out all weekend and watched zombie movies. MAN my life sucks now

Funny to see some names of people I know in real life mentioned in this thread.

Skated with Dan Murphy over this past summer in NC. He is helping run a rad bar / food spot near Endless Grind if any of you happen to be passing through Raleigh. He still rips.

Haven't seen Hillary in over 10 years. Used to film her when she was Mark. Got Mark on the team for the skate shop I was riding for but had a falling out at one point when Mark said some negative things to me. It was out of character for Mark. Years later I got a message on Facebook or Myspace from Hillary making amends. Gots mad respect for Hillary, hope to skate with her again one of these days.

YMHY, your mother hates you? If my memory is correct, pretty sure that was a homie Greg who was down to drive all over NC to skate during the Carolina LOVE days. Dude had a solid weed connect which was rare back in the early 2000s in NC. He also had a choco shroom hook up which definitely made high school more interesting for a few days.

Sinclair put together an NC skate event a couple summers ago which was real cool. Always rad to see old friends.

Anyways, I've told team riders about times the company they ride for or if their name is mentioned on the forums to check out the thread and maybe chime in. Sometimes they venture in, most of the time they stay away.

You've been dating my OLDDDDD friend Michele for fuckin' like 100 years! Hell yeah Travis. Thanks for sending me those Satori wheels a few years ago, I'm still riding them into brittle little pieces lol. My boy (and neighbor) Matt Tomasello rides for you guys too I think.

Shout out to other old school SLAP heads such as Terrorsquad and Jon from New Jersey. DME, SON! Oh, and JA$ONWEAR NYC

also also shout out to Mike Fork, a real good homie who I originally met on here. I won't tell his current username, but he's still here rockin' hard.

EDIT: OH also my neighbor who lives with Matt Tomasello, we originally got in touch via SLAP. His name is cool spot, he never posts. Much love to him, too. Love ya Peter.

i don’t keep it a big secret, but not too many people post here anymore from when I was a heavy poster. I met GOKU because he posted a picture doing a wallride. I was MySpace friends with a girl and noticed her boyfriend had the same profile picture. We were smoking weed together in somebodies parents house a couple weeks later. Good times. I lost count how many slap pals I’ve met. It was in the 30’s sometime around 2008. I live within 3 miles from Ian. and I’ve seen him twice in 2 years

Rawb recorded a rap about the Slap Message Boards and posted it on here. I did a search and found the link but it was dead.

The Vicki story happened at the height of her and BB cool guying everyone so I didn't feel too bad. It was a poster that met up with her and said she was hella annoying. She tried to hook up with him but he wasn't down. He basically said a bunch of mean stuff about her. BB went on a white knight mission banning anyone who reposted it and it just fanned the flames and I think led to his demise as a poster. He could be the biggest dick, post the harshest stuff, but then got all sensitive and went on a censor ship raid.

He lurks every now and again.
My first time in Chicago he took me to a party at his coworker's house and I stole a portable speaker.

I suck at posting, just lurk hard, everyday... first signed up for Slap boards my second year of university in 2001, The board went through a few changes you had to resign up a few times over those early 2000 years. Even back then Slap was shit talkers but slap being cared about or brought up in the industry didn't exist, cause no one cared as much about gossip. It's funny what it has become, not so much the board but just the rep it now carries...its always been people talking shit, I guess now there is more of an audience.

Had to look at when this board started, I signed up November 27, 2005...so must have been sometime 2005.

Gotta say though I went through some hard times almost 4 years ago and I posted in "Classic Slap" as I just needed to get the shit off my chest and the Slap community really helped me out...and I have seen that happen throughout my years lurking of people on here really looking out for one another.

A few people migrated from Crailtap, and some from Delphi (although I admit I have no idea what Delphi was, just that people mentioned it).

I started lurking the grey boards in 2002 and started posting shorty thereafter.

everyone in this thread is banned from all the shops in boston

i have a vague memory of this one .. is that thread/s still around? .. the best moments seem to be when a poster has a meltdown, i.e. dirtmakirk

I don't remember this Boston fiasco. I was just thinking today about how I haven't been to a shindig at Orchard in far too long. They put on some dang fine art shows, it's a real fun place to be when they put on events :D

for a few wks he'd start a bunch of threads that deteriorated to him banning everyone from shops in boston, then naming them. all the way to new hampshire and other towns in mass.
i think he may have been southie. there were a few accounts, one was called 'pulpskate' but i can't find any evidence now.

hahah bbnewbn/flyouter, the pinnacle of that was when he falsely "outed" SodaJerk as Matt Tomasello, IIRC exclaiming "hahahahahahaha BURN!!!"

Southie claimed that was not him, seeing as how nice Southie actually is in real life I doubt it was him. Unless he was just trolling, or if he was just going out of his mind for 2 weeks... the world will never know!

I was pretty stoked someone took the time to out me even though I don't make any effort to conceal my identity.

Jeremy Randall vs. COTG was classic

Gipper introducing the forum to ass play

The Stevie vs. Darren Harper photoshop thread was hilarious, as all photoshop threads are.

Who was the troll that had a sig that was like 20 pictures long and had to scroll to see it all. I remember one of them was of a rollerblader saying “let’s blade brah”.

What went down with briden? I used to talk to him every so often on an ea skate forum but never got why he left/got banned.

He lurks every now and again.
My first time in Chicago he took me to a party at his coworker's house and I stole a portable speaker.

Fond memories of playing EA skate on xbox live with EricLogan, briden, Jarad, and an australian guy (forget his username).
that was me, haha

me and some guy(cant remember who) edited a fake fully flared to send out to people around the time that premiered.

almost forgot about defiantnate.

didnt mikefork try to get everyone to delete their accounts for some reason?

mexicanspaniard getting day drunk, mumbling something to jamie thomas, therefore being kicked out of the signing

I skated Tobeyside a few weeks ago but no sign of Tobey. They built new stuff and people actually go there now so I assume he hates it and has moved on.

Unrelated. That was a few weeks before he bailed. He had a daily kooker and didn't want to give them the satisfaction of getting him to negative.

Tobey took a strong stance against P-Stone's wife when she said it was unfair that CK was not in prison on social media. When it was pointed out that he was an asshole for this he decided he was over slap and since then the Tinder thread hasn't been bumped once.

Tal was sick, I used to see her at Flushing often. She was super loaded too, I remember being impressed that she bought a pair of $400 Raygun SB's to skate. I'm surprised she took a bus all the way up, I think she had a Range Rover or something. Anyway, she was definitely hot for a NYC girl skater (especially when you're talking about a time when the alternatives were Lauren Mollica or Jaime Reyes)

She's still hella rich, she helped create one of the precursors to Uber/Lyft/etc. It was called "Cabulous". She's one gifted woman, if I was even 1% as successful as she is my life would be a lot more cushy than it is right now haha
