Forums are straight, the culture definitely changed though. There used to be way more trolling and there used to be a universal favorite skater on here (Pete Eldridge, then it was Busenitz, then it was Pontus Alv).

We've come to the realization that traditional skate media won't (or can't) call people out for fucking up because they have advertisers / audiences to please.
When people refer to the truth as negative content (looking at you Nine Club), that's when you know things have become distorted and a place like SLAP is ever more important.
Yea, there's a lot of bullshit that gets posted, but it's an open forum for a bunch of people who spend their lives running amuck in the streets, risking life and limb for adrenaline rushes. We're a bit of a junkie culture and having a place to express our thoughts is a positive in my view point. Others would rather keep those without "status" in the industry silent.
Sure, people can come up in here and make up a bunch of bullshit about someone, but eventually that shit gets debunked or the facts get exposed.
It's interesting to see how some people view this place as a shit hole, while others celebrate it's existence. Take the good with the bad I guess.

But because of that, the people offended by "sjw pc" types just troll even harder now. Like the 6 fake "____ is racist" threads in UWTB. and now theres a bunch of new posters that are gonna take a bit to learn how to not kook it, but im glad to have more people here because it makes for a broader spectrum of skaters.
Downside of having moral debates on here is you find out who has shit opinions and you cant take their other posts seriously.

SLAP is a cool window to the amazing worldwide world of skateboarding. To me thats what this place is all about since forever. Of course a majority of the threads here are about US stuff but thats understandable because well...ya all know. Its also cool to watch how society in general evolves and how that affect the manners here. At the end of the day the only thing we can have for sure its change. Change its happening right know and it wont stop everywhere.
I have tons of respect for a lot of posters here and I can laugh with many random things that only makes sense if you are this special kind of skatenerd. Its important this place and I dont think its gonna fade away.

Used to be i came on here mostly to think and talk about skateboarding a little bit more in depth and creatively than what happens naturally sitting on the bench at the spot.
Now the opposite is true and i find the conversation on here stunted and conservative compared to what happens in real life. Still lots of smart and funny posts though, maybe slaps the same and my life has improved? Dunno

When I broke my ankle in November I couldn't skate but wanted to stay connected somehow. R/skateboarding wasn't cutting it so I looked for other skate forums and this seemed like the only active one. Kinda disappoint, slap is more about shit talking and circlejerks than actual skating but I guess it's better than nothing.

the main problem is if this forum had to migrate somewhere else without the slap name it is done for. mainly because most people will simply be too glad they are out or too lazy to make a new account and see who is who now, the whole dynamic will be gone.
but, there is always good timekiller threads in photos/videos or whatever(asses thread, boobs thread, asses thread, sloth getting buck,...) and i used to spend a lot of time in the hardware section when i was spending much more money on skatestuff, and that is still good, too.
