Title: Tips for Nollies?
Post by: nsskater1993 on March 19, 2018, 01:00:07 PM
I'm regular stance and trying to learn nollies. The problem is I can not for the life of me even come close to feeling comfortable popping with my left foot. Any tips for getting over this problem? I can regular Ollie and fakie Ollie quite well, but switch and nollie require me to pop with the left foot so it doesn't feel right. Anybody else have this problem?

Thanks in advance to anybody that helps out.

There is no secret. Remember how hard it was to get good at ollies? It's just like that. Do it a bunch and you'll get good at it.

My timing with nollies and switch Ollies got better after learning switch pop shoves and switch front 180's. Sounds counter intuitive but worked for me

Get a 'rat fink' setup. Bigger wheels in the back, small wheels up front and do 'the Gino' of curbs.
Once you get that one down, learn Chinese nollies of cracks and then start popping.
Still stance til you get your timing down then hit the streets like Rupert Safkin.

push the board forward when you snap the nose, a little scoop motion. and drag your back foot toward the tail and make sure to lift your front foot to get the board to go up. your back foot will be higher than than the front throughout most of the trick.

my nollies don't ever level out. maybe two or three a week, tops. which still totally works for doing them into banks

You have to shift around your weight till you find the sweet spot to get the right pop....once you figure that out....you kick out your back foot back and push your front foot up and kinda forward....

I'd say the key at where you're at is just messing around with your weight and where you put your feet.

Seconded on learning switch front 180s first. It's stupid how easy of a trick they are; and it'll boost your confidence a little bit in the switch department.

Practice them a lot. Just takes time to get comfy nollie/switch. Won't help directly with nollies, but pushing around switch can get you more comfortable skating that way. Gonna feel really weird for a while but just hang in there and keep practicing. For me a lot of tricks are easier to nollie into now. I can't do reg crooks at all really, but I can nollie in. Hope that helps
