I always think about Jerry's sponsors, he could have joined chocolate and vans 20 years ago. I wonder how different his video parts would have been if he was in chocolate tour, yeah right, and pretty sweet instead of the storm, black cat, bag of suck, and stay gold.

Get it together Soletech! Jeez....

I feel if he left for Chocolate 20 years ago, it'd also take him out of the Tiltmode stuff. While Crailtap probably made my favorite stuff, Jerry in Bag of Suck and his Tilt Mode stuff is amazing, and it wouldn't have been the same crew if they lost Jerry on top of Marc. Louie, and Jerry were the foundation of that on the skating side and were complimented by Caswell, Jose, Nestor, Sharpe, etc.
Although the Storm Flip being called the Chocolate Tour Flip sounds intriguing.

At least Es seems to be thriving now. I guess Soletech can only manage 2 footwear brands at any given time.

I hope Altamont isn't funneling resources away from the shoe brands because I've never seen anyone wear Altamont for at least 7 years.

Jerry seems like the type who has some leeway occasionally with wearing other gear besides his sponsors... in other words, he's a boss and probably not off Emerica

most of the shoes they sell are probably because of the revive team and they sponsor only 3 pros, they have some ams on top of that. i too wouldn't say they are thriving though

Still on the team page, and no posts on either Instagram

Well, this makes sense with him not having a board sponsor and him having that clothing company. Vans probably pays more than Chocolate and Emerica combined.

More people who don’t skate wear Vans than Nike SB stuff. Old Schools/Skate Highs, Eras/Authentics, and to a lesser extent Slip Ons are straight up mall kid shoes at this point. It’s cute how the “core” double standard works. I wear them both regardless, so whatever.

They are the same...Both are corp. Both make good skate shoes. Both make most of their $$ off non-skate. Both pay skaters very well and both put $$ back into skating. Vans does a very good job of playing up the "core" vibe while being owned by Vanity fucking Fair. I'm convinced that a "skater owned" brand cannot survive in the shoe market. Shoes are not a true skate product and a company cannot compete on price and quality while only selling to skaters.
-
When E's burned to the ground there was a great fire sale on their stuff. I'll do the same for Emerica and a tear will roll down my cheek as I click "Buy".

Vans shoes are played out. There is a mall in every direction with a Vans store. because of those mall stores you will see scores of everyday people, dads, moms, little sisters rocking the wavy stripe on a pair of vans. some of the pro shoes are ok i guess, and the half cabs will be cool forever, but seeing the wavy stripe on every man woman and child has made me think they are not special anymore. its cool that vans does lots of stuff for skating and pays tons of riders but i just feel like a dweeb wearing them now because every dweeb on the planet wears them too.
-
Vans classics are the best for skating IMO. Slip-ons, old skools with a little bit of shoe goo are perfect.
If you feel like a dweeb because you're concerned about what everybody else is doing, then maybe you should reevaluate your take on skateboarding.

i feel like Vans has surpassed Converse as the "all American sneaker", and I'm cool with that.

i feel like Vans has surpassed Converse as the "all American sneaker", and I'm cool with that.
I walk through an urban college campus between the train and my office every day and the number of kids in Vans are easily the same as Converse or Nike.
The "Skate shops" in the mall thing is still weird to me. I hardly ever go to the mall and support my local shop, but it's still mind blowing that in my local mall there are at least three places you can buy a skateboard (Vans, Zumiez, and Pacsun). Plus Thrasher and stuff at Urban Outfitters.
I grew up without a local shop and my mother would literally have to phone CCS or some place in California and order boards for me. The best was when I really wanted a pair of Fuct pants and she wouldn't say the name to the guy on the phone. She said, "My son would like a pair of F-U-C-T jeans."

Considering Jerry’s Osiris and Emerica shoes were Vans imitations this makes sense.
for real, the original emerica hsus were halfcabs, but worse

They were more of a vulcanized mid top dunk sans strap. Just because a shoe is a mid top vulc doesn’t mean it’s a half cab.

Correct. They don't even have to be someone's "pro model." They make pro versions of the classic styles, as well. You pay a little more, but you definitely feel the difference.

I do see how you could think that at a quick glance. I felt that too, before getting a pair of the Hsu's. The Hsu felt different, fit different, and skated different than a halfcab. The shape of the toe and the toe cap were different, the lines are different, the silhouette is different.
The two really aren't as similar as, say, the DC Match S and the OG Lakai Manchester, if you want an example from that same time period.

Have you considered that vans was not a skate company to begin with, and was adopted by skateboarders? Vans gets a core pass for most people and really it is justified.
All I'm saying is that if you're going to let people who don't skate ruin skateboarding for you, you wouldn't have been skating when skating wasn't the cool thing to do. If your schtick is just because skateboarding is a socially acceptable thing to do then that's your prerogative.

People who didn’t skate wore the Vans 36’s (now known as the Old Skool) all the time in the early 90’s. I bought the first pair that I skated in at a small running shoe store. There’s nothing new under the sun.

I bought these when they came out. I was stoked on them for a little bit, then after a week I was like what have I done? I was so bummed skating and looking down at big ugly yellow shoes. I went back to skating some older beat up black half cabs and gave these to a friend.

Why do rip-off's of Half Cabs look better than actual Half Cabs?
I always thought the carroll selects looked a bit like half cabs.

I don't see the half cab similarities as much as I see the Dunk similarities. The divet in the toe cap shape, the separate upper material for the top and bottom eyelets, swoosh replaced with the flare...it's like almost exactly the same.

Just checked the Emerica site, he's off the team page and all of his shoes are on sale and not on the pro section anymore

it's true, then. :(
sad days for Emerica

i always thought that this colorway was very sick, especially after playing skate 1 on xbox, i believe carroll wore this exact shoe in the game and it looked great

Remember the DC Ryan Smith 2 shoes? Shameless halfcab rip...
Totally forgot. The original halfcab ripoff.
-
Also, Mike Carroll’s Vans pro model. MC ripped off his own Vans teammate.

KennyReeds shoe was a rip off too...
-
this is good for jerry (if true)
he never shoulda been on emerica
it fucked his career
he had to kill himself and skate in pain for a decade lol
fuck that...... dude can skate anything at a pro level
he should stick to mannies, ledges, and banks
How?

I read it and it did not answer my question.
-
Are you suggesting that it's Emerica's fault that he went through injuries despite his most impact heavy part being before he was even on?
-
You're not very bright, are you?
-
nope...ima nigger
Better watch out with that kind of talk little boy...
-
you are what you are
Silly. Go back and watch all of Jerry's parts. He's always skated on the edge of a career-ending injury. Being on Emerica was probably the thing that saved him when he finally did get wrecked. That's just my guess.
Bummer to see him leave because he's part of my favorite era of Emerica. However, all I really care about (and all anyone should care about when discussing Jerry) is that he is able to share his skating with us.

Wow so its sounds like Jerry can thank a shoe company that his career hasn't tanked? -that's fucked.
-
My dad got me some Hsu G6s for Xmas. 2nd time owning a pair of midtop Emerica Hsu sneaks, I'm bummed that this shoe is gonna be RIPd! I should pick up a few more pairs while they're on clearance. They're a little less puffy feeling than Half Cabs, I will miss these.

No. I'm saying that if he got hurt as bad as he did while on Osiris I doubt they'd have kept paying him for as long as Emerica did.

Just thought of something. Does Jerry have any sponsors now? Currently no board or shoe sponsor. Can't imagine he is still riding for Royal, if he quit Chocolate, why the fuck would he stay on Royal? But he is still on the Royal team page.
Skatepark Of Tampa has Ricta Wheels as his wheel sponsor, but he's not on the team page. Why the fuck was he riding for Ricta? Also says he rides for Mob and Swiss, so maybe he only has a griptape and bearing sponsor? If so, that's pretty sick.
Is Jerry the most respected pro with bad sponsors in skateboard history? Osiris, Ricta, and Royal at one point?

Their team members are dropping like flies, and the new ams they added really aren't hot fire marketable dudes to anyone that isn't stuck in 2007. Nobody digs the long haired rail chomping Black Sabbath baseball shirt vibe anymore. Kader was marketable, but he left months ago. I love Emerica's shoes, it's sad thinking about them dying off!

You don't get it. All three of their new ams are, in essence, huckers, and that's more of a niche market now than a guaranteed return on investment. It's 2018, and not enough people are into that type of skating anymore to continue to base a brand's entire image around it. This is twice as troubling when you look back into who the brand flowed over the decade, versus who they put on.

I don't know how Thunder and Venture work, but Indy pays it's top 10 dudes, likek Reynolds, Danny Way, Tony Hawk all get checks but a lot of the other dudes don't and may get a pro model truck every couple of years and make some money from that, companies like Royal have to offer a steady paycheck to any dudes they want on the company. This is why so many dudes will ride for some dumb truck company then ride Indys or Ventures irl. Beibel and Stevie rode Ventures when they were on Silver, back in the day Creager was on Gullwing but he would ride pretty much every truck but Gullwings. He even had a gullwing ad slip by that he was riding ventures, also there's an Ave cover where he's riding ventures and has a Royal ad in the mag.

Shier and Chico are boys from the DVS days, so now that he’s the Addidas TM, he’s probably just hooking up his friend. It would be great to see him get paid though, Chico is ripping harder than ever.

That's basically want I meant, Chico (despite him ripping harder than ever and being way more productive than MJ) is flow at best.
Him and Jerry deserve mad scrilla but it's probably more like a few boxes of shoes here and there. What a sad world we live in...

i think jerry is still a pretty big name and would get full on a company, maybe not necessarily adidas for whatever reason, but i dont think hes comparable to chico. brenes is obviously still sick, and even if hes ripping as hard as ever, its not necessarily cutting edge in the current era of skating. also he was in his prime at least 5, maybe almost 10 years before jerry.
unless the lack of a board sponsor really matters and im totally wrong. i dont think so though. sci fi fantasy seems to be doing well and seeing as how its just plain text on a t shirt and hat so far, its gotta be based off of his popularity/marketability
-
Sci-fi is going to be a board company. Just not overnight. You’ll see Jerry riding blanks for a while. Kader will be the first on and will turn pro before he’s 14.

wearing t shirts with sexy anthropomorphic dolphin women on them with shit like "slippery when wet" on them. You in to that shit? And can a dolphin person be a furry since no fur?

how come there isn't an instagram page yet where someone who has too much time photoshops different shoes on pro's and starts rumors about switching shoe sponsors

I just saw it on imgur on day and thought it was funny as fuck, but I wouldn't call myself a dolphin fucker.
I would say a dolphin person could be a variation of a furry. I imagine the whole culture of it would be high-nosed because dolphins and humans are the only two animals that have sex for pleasure, apparently, so there's that that could maybe think that their better than furries idk man that's some weird ass shit.
I actually saw a gay furry couple at the mall yesterday, and was thinking that if you wear furry stuff in public you're basically telling everyone you like furry hentai and other furry sexual endeavors. I mean, if that's your thing then you do you, it's just a foreign concept to me and seems kind of weird.
