Broken elbo and a busted finger, Dude for Life doesn't let that get in the way of a good time.
Boston on a crisp fall night.
The next morning we drove to the shop, passed some cool buildings.
Apartments.
Jad diggin' the groves of the DJ behind him. We met up with a couple Upstate NY SPBs and hung their art in the space.
Last Ditch.
Cosmic Warren, by Jamie Coucelle (sp?). I think that's the name. I lost the list that had all that stuff written on it.
Back at the shop - Ray, James and Adam ham it up. It had been close to 15 years since I had seen Ray and James.
The Orchard family mingles before a group shot and heading over to the art show.
Matt directs the directionless.
The photog. checks his equipment. Make sure those batteries are fresh.
The cat in the white hat is Fritz. I saw some of his footage for the Orchard video and holy shit cakes on a stick of RAD! From pools to gaps, rails and ledges he's got a big bag of tricks and good style. Raw east coast ATV.
Adam, a polite family man. Fuck you too buddy.
top - Dennis Fuegere's gang trailer home. He used to manage the DLXSF shop a while back. He now lives on one of the first Shaker settlements in upstate New York. It is currently a school and he and his wife teach there.
bottom - By another SPB I haven't met. I really wanted to take this one home but didn't have enough room in my bags.
Armin, Dennis and Jamie conversate during the opening.
Another Friar Tuck club member in the fore-ground repping an old 'angel' patch.
Nate Keegan and a friend exchange a very long handshake.
Jamie bought one of Porous' drawings. He and Dennis had to drive back to upstate, a 2.5 hour trip after the opening.
PBR, drink of the broke and cheap for decades.
About two hours into the party/opening/booze fest I got sick from both ends. Puked and shitted my insides out and nearly passed out a couple of times. Food poisoning in all its awesome crapitude. I spent a couple hours recovering at the shop, where we found Bro eating a microwave burrito and watching Mind Field in the dark. Skate rat till the end, thanks for being you Brodrick.
The next day we hit up the financial district. 5 minutes out of the car I pulled a muscle in my pushing leg and effectivly took myself out of any serious skating. Aside from a couple switch tricks my skating was done. So I filmed Jad, Adam and Ezra as they had a great session. Turn those lemons into lemonade, or some such shit.
Please note, the Friar Tuck club is a term I heard from these guys. If you are bald or balding don't be offended, they aren't.
Always loved the Boston skyline.
Lots of marble.
The Federal reserve building.
Like old times.
Meat.
Copley library.
The Copley fountain, grew up skating this spot and met a lot of great people because of it.
The church and the John Handcock building.
Nothing changes in Boston, especially the parking. If you have a good spot, you never give it up.
The next day we went back to the barrier to see how things were drying and found it like this. Someone poured compressor oil on it and mopped it over all of the cement. It must have been shortly before we drove up because the oil was still fresh. Two empty bottles were found behind the barrier. We put dirt on the worst spots and plans have been made to reclaim the spot.
Providence, R.I. spot. Fun but needs more work and tlc.
Lots of potential.
The fountain, tight tranny but fun.
.
Stopped by the Fountain of Youth.
They weren't open on Mondays but one of the owners happened to be in and opened the doors for us. Thanks Grandison.
The Solitary Arts Black Eggs wheels.
We checked out the Pawtucket park for a minute but too many bikers prevented any real chance of a session.
Looks like a great park too.
Jad and Adam Ayer. Adam was one of my early skate heros. Lots of style, a deep bag of tricks, had the cover of Transworld shot by Spike Jones (I think), did the first shifty kickflips I ever saw (back in '93) on flat and done proper and did some big gaps on some stupidly small wheels. An ankle injury took him out. It was great catchng up with him, a good guy back then and a solid person today.
Adam's ride of the night.
After moving my photos and most of the art over to the shop Jad and I hit up Copley for a late night session. The bikers sure have jacked up the ledge.
Got weirded out by being back .
The ledge that was the curse of my life for many years. It taunted me extra this time, getting hurt on a trip sucks lumpy llama balls.
Back to downtown for some night cruising and street beer.
Old hisotic building where people who wore wigs did stuff and said things.
The "Freedom Trial", takes you through the city past historic places.
Red Auerback was a great basketball coach. Never been a huge fan, I just love the fact that he's smoking a big blunt.
Suffolk county criminal courts.
On my ast day I hung some stuff in the shop and said my good byes.
.
.
Fred from Street Corner, but the SPBeez had first claim on him.
Photos and decks.
Many thanks to the great guys at Orchard and Jad for bringing me out to Boston and hosting me and the art show.
