Eulogies

Tempted To Do Nothing EP

(Dangerbird)

December 1st, 2008

This EP stopped me in my tracks much like Arcade Fire did with a simple sound that's funeral rock related. The track Two Can Play also has the same sentiment as the merging of female vocals with Peter Walker. Their first song starts in with a tune that's reminiscent of an early J Mascis/Dinosaur Jr. riff to the lyric "In my bad connection I wanna fix..." alluding to avant Conor Oberst heroine sensibilities. Its an album taken much in the conservative indie direction Deerhunter brought to Microcastle. Eulogies does it with style. The EP asks how does it feel in Is There Anyone Here? that's debatably their best song on Tempted To Do Nothing's simple beat layered, talking-singing, and ample feedback. The name Eulogies is also starting to grow on me when considering the Arcade Fire and those bands of their top two influences Sun Kil Moon and Cat Power. -Jehinger
