losing speed/momentum while skating banks
« on: June 26, 2018, 07:58:58 AM »
Or maybe speed isn’t even the issue. Does anyone else struggle while trying to grind/slide the top of bigger banks?

Like sometimes I’ll be pushing my face off to get up to top of a bank and still not having enough momentum to get a good slide or grind. Then other skaters show up, push from less far away and just fly up and across that bish. I gotta be doing something wrong.

Anyone know what I’m talking about or have the answer?

I’m talking street not skateparks

I always squeeze my glutes as hard as I possibly can while ascending.

if you're gonna rob banks, you don't pray to god. you pray to gotti.

if the other guys are getting up w/ less pushing they've prolly got bigger wheels than you.
or a more refined technique involving a quick jesse martinez before pushing.
one time i was at hart plaza and 2 kids played a game of skate and if one kid won, looser would 180 'big hart'. if other kid lost, he;d ollie big hart.
so i forget who won/lost but dude goes '2 pushes and you got it' and to me, it's like 12 ft of horizontal gap w/ a decent amount of drop but 2 pushes seemed not fucking push enough.
it's all about the jesse martinez.

It makes a big difference how light on your feet you are at the junction of the ground and the bank. Like if you slam your wheels into that angle with all your weight you will lose a ton of speed.

It sounds stupid but rolling up rather than slamming on helps. As does aiming over as if your going to fly out (resist the urge to Benihana).

I learned this which was a breakthrough but I still feel like others float up while I bust my ass and struggle.
