Advice on trucks
« on: April 15, 2020, 03:06:37 PM »
I haven't skated for years but want to buy a new set up. I've never skated anything bigger than a 7.75, and always skated indy 129 lows.

Anyway, I've just ordered an 8.06 deck and need advice about trucks. Do I go up to a 139 indy? Should I stick to lows, or is it not that different to skate standards or the hollows? I've never tried Ventures before. Questions, questions....

Any advice appreciated, thanks

Grab a set of Venture 5.6s, you will be thankful for the stability out of the gate. I bet you go up in size quicker than you think ;)

Do not go to the truck thread, it is a dark hole you do not need right now. Keep it simple while you can.

139s would be more flush, which is generally preferred.

This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

More info, from your end, might be helpful.

My favorite trucks are venture 5.2 lo’s.

If I was just giving someone a blanket recommendation: venture 5.2 hi’s. The logic: you are skating an 8” board. Ventures are excellent, in general, but also more stable (within the realm of trucks) so a good choice, from dlx which is a great company worthy of our dollars. Hi’s because you can run a wheel from 55mm down pretty easily. As I mentioned, I like lo’s, but that drastically limits your wheel size options.

After that....just skate. Getting caught up in gear bullshit is mildly entertaining, but I don’t think anyone will say it makes one a better skater. It’s just a different avenue to tweak out about.

I agree on the venture sentiment. The stability is nice for learning tricks and if you are already used to low indys and skate small wheels the 5.2 lows are a good choice.

I vote this guy - I'm liking truck width > board width.

Also, Ventures are the bomb.
Venture Truck Height:

5.0 & 5.2 LO
STANDARD - 1.88” - 47.75mm
FORGED - 1.85”- 46.99mm

5.0 ,5.2, 5.6, 5.8 & 6.1 HI
STANDARD - 2.09” - 53.09mm
FORGED - 2.04” - 51.82m

Just one quick thing to note, not sure where you're located, but supplies of popular 8 inch trucks seem to be drying up online in the US right now. All the other sizes seem easy to get, so you might have to go onto a few different sites to get a set. Good luck!

Thunders are really nice. Not a low truck but more of a mid than a high. They will feel a little different than Ventures but since you're starting a new maybe spice things up a bit a try a different brand?

while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

Lmao. In all seriousness though. I think Indy had a good decade reign back when thunders were less popular and before venture starting offering wider and high trucks readily available and catered to the tech crowd around stage 9 and 10 era. There are just so many good options besides indys these days. The competition has stepped up the quality.
