Someone stole Paris Hilton's cellphone and published the phone book online. I saw Muska's number on there and cold called it and dude answered. A few weeks later we partied together in Phoenix. I had to pre-game solo because I was so nervous as he was a childhood hero, but he was so gone I doubt he remembers any of the dumb shit I said to be cool.

My worst pro encounter was skating Pier 7 for the first time and I accidentally snaked a Chocolate pro. I was so nervous of doing that that I didn't skate the first hour or two I was there. They focused my board and threw it off the Pier. Later, Karl Watson gave me his fairly new board.

I bothered the fucking shit out of Mike V when I was a little kid, probably 13 or 14, and he was cool as fuck. I mean he made a bunch of claims that he didn't live up to, like how he was never going to quit Black Label and Etnies and Accel wheels, but whatever. He also told me he invented that tail slide, never bothered to fact check it though. Well, some kid ended up breaking his fucking back at the demo because he tried to show off & Mike V visited that kid in the hospital. The kid quit skating a couple of years later and eventually died of a heroin overdose in later years, but whatever.

I also talked to Gino on the crailtap phone while they had it up on the website. Chico answered, and he passed the phone to Daniel Castillo but I wasn't really trying to talk to him. Luckily Gino was in their van, and he was really cool about shit. He pretty much told me about his Nike deal, his jail stints, and shared every single skate spot on Long Island with me. Dude chopped it up with me for almost an hour, and then I had to go because my early 2000's prepaid cell phone was about to run out of minutes. Thanks for the convo Gino, I didn't take any of your advice about not going wild with partying or anything but I appreciated your diverse knowledge of Long Island skateboarding.

what did Gino go to jail for (multiple times)? always wondered

Just remembered this story after talking with a co-worker this morning about Supra:

I had just finished filming at J.Kwon that morning and drove a few blocks down to a juice place with my friend.
We were walking down the block towards the juice place and spotted a skinny white dude walking in our direction with a windbreaker, jogger pants, runners, a dad hat and visible tattoos and facial hair.

We were about 20 feet away from him and I made some comment to my friend along the lines of "This dude wants to be Dane Vaughn so badly" or "This dude thinks he's Dane Vaughn or something", and I didn't realize at first that I said it loud enough to where he could have easily heard what I said.

We walked by each other and he looked at us with slight discomfort and we noticed the supra shoes as well as the full DGK kit and realized it was the Cajun Gypsy himself and felt like I had probably made this guy's morning walk to get coffee somewhat uncomfortable

TLDR - I made fun of some white guy for looking like Dane Vaughn and when we walked by it was actually him

I shared some pho with Daniel Shimizu and Chet Childress at the alamoana (sp?) park in Hawaii.  I think they all got clips for debacle or sb chronicles or something.  GT was def ripping the hardest. I didn't offer any to Darryl because I honestly didn't know who he was at the time.  He kept going, "Do you know who those guys were?!" I was like "yeah..." but I didn't know who the fuck he was. LMAO fitting upon reflection.

Mike V was doing a tour with a bunch of other pros including Cyril Jackson and Duane Peters. Not many demos make it down to Mississippi so I got my dad to take me. I had a really stupid nickname on Facebook and he replied without hesitation when I heard he wasn't gonna make one of the locations in Mississippi, but ended up stopping in Jackson. They killed the demo in the old Doc 36 skatepark and he was formal but really cool about signing the board my dad got me and I got to shake his hand.

Fast forward about 3 years I never got to see Grant Taylor but we skated to his house and he had some janky quarter pipes out in the street that the homies and I skated for 15 minutes before going back to the downtown park.

About 3 years later in 2016 my homie and I went to Birmingham to stop by Faith Skate shop. I walked by and saw James Hardy and we just said an awkward "Sup" before he left the shop. Pretty sure that was one of the last times he was in Birmingham because he quit Real and his other sponsors not too long afterwards. Damn shame but injuries will catch up to you, but he represented southern skateboarding well.

Making awkward posts of awkwardly encountering pros (and their ramps) is where this thread is heading.

Me and my brother were skating once at Hawthorne skate park and Stevie Perez accidentally ran into my brother. He then said "Yo! My bad Homie!" but he really emphasized on the homie part in a almost tough guy kinda way. Considering how small and scrawny he was me and my brother laughed.

When I was still in high school, my friends called to tell me they ran into a Kalis at a local spot in Levittown.  Ten minutes later he was in my mom’s kitchen.

I met ben raemers at an art gallery in london once. I had been smoking so felt awkward and he was with a really hot blonde chick (not his sister). My friend convinced me to talk to him so I went up and said I'm a huge fan and referenced some video he was in when he was like 11. He seemed a bit creeped out but was very chill. I then took a selfie with him which is blurry as fuck and I'm looking overly stoked.
Hopefully it gave him some props in front of the chick...

Not painfully awkward but was in DTLA and bumped into Daniel castillo waiting for an elevator a couple weeks ago. Asked if it was him to verify, told him I liked his skating. He said thanks and avoided me like the plague in that 18 floor decent. Noticed how tiny of a human he really was.

Same day, later in the afternoon, I see manchild and Sam Smyth on the corner of the street as I’m getting on the freeway. Didn’t say anything but noticed they, too, were both freakishly small people.

What’s up with pros being the size of jockeys? Is that why sample size is 9?

I don't know why but the visual of this happening made me just laugh out loud. I met him at a spot once and when he showed up, he walked up to all 4 or 5 of us 9th graders and shook our hands and said hello. Quite a friendly fellow.

When I was around age 12 my mom took me and a few friends to the Gravity Games for a day. We were driving through the city getting closer to the venue, all the windows down in the car. We're at a red light, and a friend notices Fabrizio Santos skating past on the sidewalk on the other side of the street so he kinda says something about it to all of us. Hearing this, my mom then yells out the window "FABRIZIO!" and he starts looking around all confused and eventually looks in our direction and my friends and I immediately ducked down in our seats trying to remove ourselves from that awkward moment. I get a good laugh at that now but I was so embarrassed at the time.

Saw Greco at the local pizza joint about the time the 'Hammers' movie came out. Was gonna say what's up and that I liked how it came out. He gave me the 'Don't do it' eyes, so I kept eating.

My friend knew Guy and somehow found out he needed some HVAC work done at his house. I went there and checked it out and quoted him for the work. He was cool with it and knew I skated and set me up with a complete. Super cool. He called me a half hour later and said he needed to talk to his wife first. Never heard back.

Was skating Marseille maybe 2004 or so and in come Steve Nesser and Donny Barley. We'd share cigarettes/lighters and bullshit everyday for a few days. Being the only americans around I guess. Barley would awkwardly break into his life story a bunch.

Went to the 'Tent City' premiere at Skatelab and ended up hanging out front with Sam Hitz and Gerwer the whole time. Gerwer asked Sam if he needed another beer, he obliged, I tossed in a 'Yea, me too'. Frank seemed shocked, and came back with just the one.

Driving down Fairfax and Dill is standing out front of Supreme. My friend rolls down the window and screams 'JASON DILL', and he did a slow motion movie turn around and level 5000 death stare. We giggled.

The WKND dudes were skating the high school across the street from my house. I went over and asked if they needed any of the gates opened as I work for the district. They didn't, but Maalouf wanted a bathroom opened, he was obviously super close to shitting his pants. I don't have those keys..

A friend and I were having a beer at one of those restaurants next to the Vans park during a Combi contest. Phelps comes to our table and sits down with us and immediately demands to know who the gnarliest skater of all time was. Then asked how I broke my teeth, which was strange because I hadn't. My teeth weren't fucked up, but not to be mistaken for veneers. Idk.

At a demo.  Sitting next to my friend on my board on a curb.  Natas approaches.  Apparently said something I didn't hear.  I scoot a little on my board and look up like to see if he wants to skate that curb.  He goes away.

My friend was like "why did you do that?"  Apparently he had asked why aren't you guys skating and it looked like I was replying sarcastically by scooting over.

Later at same demo we go over and skate the same curb with him.  At one point I see him looking at my board.  I was riding a factory second warped McGill deck with no graphic screened on it.  On the griptape I had painted an attempted direct copy of this crazy face that was on a Gonz deck pictured in a Thrasher interview.

Yeah he was super cool. He was screaming at the top of his lungs going down the ride and I was just kind of being dragged down the ride by his tube. It actually happened a couple days after I had met him at a local skatepark and he struck up a conversation with me and my mom after haha
